This is so amazing! Their music is excellent, I can't fathom why they aren't more well-known, their music is EXCELLENT. Especially compared to the inane fodder that often gets blasted on the radio. Runnin Free, I once listened to that song for a whole hour, nonstop, while high on a beach, and it was glorious.
Criminally underrated band from the glory days of Southern Rock. This album is a true hidden gem. Great arrangements, soaring vocals, rhythm section is top notch, and more tasty guitar licks than I can take! Great album!
Stillwater was a Southern Rock band of the 1970s, The band existed from 1973 to 1983 and was based in Warner Robins, GA. They released two albums on Capricorn Records, Stillwater (1977), which included the single "Mind Bender", and I Reserve The Right! (1979), and later a third album Runnin' Free (1998). Stillwater opened for such bands as the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Foreigner and The Charlie Daniels Band, among others. They have played reunion concerts in Middle Georgia since the mid-80's.
my,my,my.........theze guyz only made "3" albumz since 1977.......what a shame.......they are some of th' MOST talented group of musicians i have EVER heard (& i have descent sized album collection) & stillwater is @ th' very TOP of my collection!!!!!!!!!!
Often wondered same thing. They were from my home town (Warner Robins, GA) and I would go watch them in concert frequently when they were just starting out. I remember some great concerts at the Club 50 out on Robins AFB before they released albums and started touring. Capricorn Records going bust really hurt them, then disco/punk came along in late 70's/early 80's and shifted tastes, before classic rock/roll resurfaced...Glad they pulled the material together for this 3rd album, even in limited release. thank god for youtube. I bought the CD at a reunion concert in Macon since 2000, not sure how many of those CD's are out there. Try searching to see if any of the band members are selling, or contact Sebie Lacie (singer) at Strato Cleaners in WR.
"Mind Bender" caught my ear on the radio, bought the vinyl as a teen, took the chance with my hard-earned $15, and the album Stillwater has haunted me all these years. Finally recently learned the 3 albums are available on CD, and it's just better than ever, what a treat for a southern rock fan. Not having researched it, I wonder why they never hit the big time, but I will enjoy their music (as an amateur musician - guitar and stuff) and maybe ask for Sam's Jam to be played at my memorial. Love these guys.
As a 63 year old Macon resident, I can say theses guys have always been spot on. Rob Walker taught me more about guitar than I thought I would ever learn. And that was in high school....long ago. They have been good since they started. I saw them with a lot of folks (therefore sam’s jam). There was a bar in Macon called Uncle Sam’s where everybody that was in town at Capricorn records used to hang out. Lot’s of good jams there. Oh to be young again.
got this CD at one of their reunion concerts in Macon GA around 2000. Very nice. Too bad that Capricorn went under when they did, at a time when these guys had so much potential.

So how did the real Stillwater name get used in the movie Almost Famous ? Why did they not use the real Stillwater band in the movie ?
Great music. Where one can download this?
is this the same band that was portrayed on the movie Almost Famous.?
no, movie just paid these guys to use the name.
@@statman7 Cameron said in an interview he personally saw them in the 70s and was inspired by them to use the name.
Edit: Though obviously changed everything but the name.
@@statman7 thanks for knowing the truth...Stillwater rocks.
1970's music was way better... :/
You are way way right.
Yep same band as on the film Almost Famous. Check out Maybe it’s Love my fav track of theirs.
