    Another idea is to take the boot strap and move it to the toe strap position. The boot strap is longer, and many pads/goalies are going without a boot strap now anyways. I'm personally going to try this myself.

    Great idea and Video. My son was way over due for new pads. He tried his friends new Warrior pads out, he liked the weight and how easy it was for him to move in them but, he has always played without toe ties. He said they were too restrictive and had trouble getting his full blade on the ice. Your solution was the perfect answer to getting the G4's working for him. He has always worn Brians equipment and it has always lasted but these new G4's don't seem to be as robust in their construction. He's only had 3 tournaments and a hand full of practices in them and the color is already wearing off in spots. Contacted Warrior and they claimed "that just happens with play". I've been around hockey long enough, that yes equipment beaks down but not this quickly.

    Thank you for the great video! I just bought a used pair of G3's and the first time that I wore them they were way to tight. I also only play inline hockey so I have to run the front strap through the middle of my skate instead of the front. I used this technique and used them just last night what a huge difference.

    Awesome idea for a simple mod! Going to try it out today on my new G5’s. Love my new set - G5 pads with R/GT2 catcher and blocker. One question if anyone has experienced this and can suggest adjustments…my leg seems to ride up when I go down into the butterfly. I measure right in the middle of the knee to ankle 35” pad, so I know it’s the right size. In the butterfly my knee sometimes shifts to the top on the knee stack…other than adding to the toe tie, any suggestions? I wear the knee strap straight across, not angle down to the calf.

    This is a great mod! I love my G4 pads and this mod made them perform even better. Warrior’s XL straps are only about an inch longer than the standard ones so they don’t really do the trick...

    Excellent video! The original toe straps on my GT's were way too tight for me. Now the velcro extends out an extra 4 inches. Thanks. BTW got the velcro at Home Depot.

    Just got my g4 set and you weren't kidding about the toe straps. They do a great job keeping the skate to the pad but way too tight. I could barely move my skate. Definitely grabbing some double sided velcro. Thanks for the awesome advice!!

    What about running the strap through the middle opening instead of going all the way through. It did pick up some length but haven't tried it yet. Curious if this could cause a issue. Thoughts and opinions are welcomed

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  5 років тому

      Great suggestion. I think it may affect the responsiveness with regards to toe/boot placement. I personally like a toe placement that is slightly offset (towards the inside gusset). But if the middle opening is working for you, that could be a great thing to try! Thanks for sharing!

    I am not a big fan of all the plastic clips and rings, is there a way to mod these to something more durable?

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  5 років тому

      Hi, thanks for your comment! Have you watched my other Toe Strap Mod video? I made a strap that does not use the clip. While I haven't personally had any issues with the durability, it seems like the o-rings are pretty substantial. Otherwise, if you're looking for an old"er" school approach, you could lace in toe ties to the front of the pads too!

    Weird I anticipated issues, but my toe strap works just fine!

      Glad to hear! I think when a manufacturer designs a feature, that design will work for the majority of users. But the beauty is that goalies will always find a way to tweak their gear to fit their personal preference! I applaud Warrior for their toe strap innovations (I'm just glad I'm not a Toe Buckle guy anymore or then I'd be really out of luck!)

    SO, I just bought some G3 Pro Classics, and the clips on the toe straps DO NOT fit through the holes of a VH 1-piece goalie skate blade holder..... I'm hoping to go to my DIY bungee toe straps that resemble HAL straps, but I need to utilize that to strap bar, I hope it holds up....

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  5 років тому

      Congrats on the new pillows! But bummer with the toe straps! Here is one goalies solution to the issue with the VH 1-piece design:

      @@VOGoalie Thank you! Excellent info. However I just changed the pads over to the toe ties I make out of bungee 550 cord and paracord buckles. I sent you a video on that a while back. It works great, and just as fast off and on.

    I have a pair of warrior g5s and I have to say that it's bullshit that I have to do this. The straps should be adjustable.

  • @gklein21
    @gklein21 5 років тому

    I found that the HEEL straps on my new G4s were very awkward to fasten and unfasten the way they are configured from the factory. I observed that the leather heel straps on my old G1s went OUTSIDE the calf wrap, but the heel straps on the G4s are positioned INSIDE the calf wrap. So I modded my G4s to accomplish the same thing as on my G1s. I removed the heel straps, then pushed the O-rings through the small holes so they were on the outside of the calf wrap. I then reattached the straps. Now I can fasten and unfasten the heel straps without having to contort myself to clip them inside the calf wraps. I posted a photo of the result at www.flickr.com/photos/jerryklein/46311609952/in/album-72157701481067682/

      Great insight on different attachment options! I bet that's way easier! Do you find the outer placement hits the post when the pad is up against it? That would be my only concern with breaking the clip during the game. Otherwise, looks like a great option! Thanks for sharing!

    • @gklein21
      @gklein21 5 років тому

      @@VOGoalie I have not noticed whether the clip hits the post or not, but I don't think I would ever hit the post with enough force to break the clip; they seem pretty substantial.

    Can you please make a video of how to get toe strap out of the g4 pad? I can't seem to figure it out....

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  5 років тому

      Hey, thanks for your comment! I go a little more into how to remove the straps here:
      ua-cam.com/video/ev7aGF2dEJ0/v-deo.html
      But really, it's just a matter of pulling them through. I've found that if you start by pushing the elastic into the channel, then inserting the hook while simultaneously "digging" out the top, with a little work, you should be able to pull it through.

    • @Seoulmanaja
      @Seoulmanaja 5 років тому

      @@VOGoalie Thanks for the reply! I did also find a g3 pad video from Warrior that showed it and that also worked out. I've been having trouble with the toe straps being too short as well. At strapworks.com how much velcro did you end up buying? like 3 feet?
      In other news, I love my g4 pads and I'm so glad that there is somewhere our there talking about them. Keep up the good work with the videos!

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  5 років тому

      @@Seoulmanaja Glad you were able to figure it out! I actually use the Velcro self wrap for a variety of different uses (including attaching my GoPro to the inside of the net) so I always have some on hand but yes, 3 feet would definitely be enough!

    Those clips are the worst clips to use. Difficult to put on every time.
