    What an outstanding competitor and person. Love watching her race and the way she conducts herself, even when coming second in the biggest global events. Her racing nous is terrific, especially for one so young. She could teach Josh Kerr and Jakob Ingebrigtsen a thing or two about grace and humility. I'll be overjoyed to see her collect a global gold, which is certain to come at some point - hopefully in Paris.

    Keely's strength training this pst winter is the key factor here for her fast last 120 meters. Same cadence just more power than last year. You can tell by looking at her there is more muscle around her hips. Should be gold in Paris.

    Keely also opened last year's outdoor season with pretty much the same time. This isn't surprising.

      Yep.
      That said, she needs to close in on that inside lane, don't allow anyone to sprint past and make sure, they have to go 'around' her. 😉

      Really? Five Diamond League meetings so far this season, the women's and men's combined has produced 13 middle distance races, there have been two British wins. Far from a domination.

    last question answer intimating that she is considering doing the 400m as well as the 800m to try and get in the relay squad..?!

  • @david2804me
    @david2804me 4 місяці тому +4

    Some commentators never learn haha....Keely was absolutely NOT hanging back...she was using her brain and running an even pace so she did not die at the end like Moraa did. She probably watched an old clip of Dave Wottle who mastered the art of even pacing over 800m and won the 72 Olympics that way. Kelly Homes did the exact same thing in Athens in 2004.

    • @donnybrooklads
      @donnybrooklads 4 місяці тому

      Nah. Keely is just stronger this year plain and simple and had the kick way more so than last season.

      @@donnybrooklads Hehe. At this level, it is not just a question of how fit/fast etc someone is, you must have a race plan and that is what I was referring to. Keely is not running faster than last year....yet. You should look up the references I mentioned in my first post. There have been so many good 800m runners over many years who underperformed consistently because they allowed others to dictate the pace and they just followed them. A great example of never having a strategy and sticking to it was the American Johnny Gray who always started fast and finished half-dead. Consequently, despite having a PB of 1:42.60, he didn't win anything major although he led at the bell in many of the big races.

    So in her last two races Keely has run sub 1min 56sec on each occasion. Also, she has now run sub 1min 56secs four times. If Athing is in Paris, the winner will have to run sub 1min 55 secs.

    Keely needs to do this at the Olympics.
    Impose herself on Morah and Mo . Don't let them dictate from the front.
    But I think she will need to run around 1.54/1.54.5 at the Olympics. Think she can do it based on this performance.

    Interesting that Athing Mu is remaining enigmatic and perhaps won't reveal her racing form until the US trials on the 21st June?
    Either way, that tainted 800m WR could be under serious threat and can finally, be erased from the record books.
    Really hope the KH runs in the Brit trials as it looks as all the track events for Olympic Qualification, are going to be outstanding and a rare chance to see the athletes demonstrate what they could achieve, in Paris.
