I was there too, with a bunch of friends, about 100vft. away from center stage. Being the tallest guy in our group, the gals we were with all wanted to climb up and sit on my shoulders. I must have had one gal or another on my shoulders for at least a couple of hours total. We had a great time!

My first concert was Frampton. Sept.4 ,1977 Orlando, Tangerine Bowl. Still have the ticket stub. Freshman in High School. Growing up in the 70's was the best decade ever and Frampton was like the Sweet icing on the cake. Ask anyone who was a teenager back then. Oh yeah, and it only cost like $10 to see Peter Frampton and 3 other bands Rock your socks off.

I agree with you that the 70s were good times and Frampton Comes Alive was and still is an epic recording. Shortly after this, disco took over. Saturday Night Live (Bee Gees) took over the airwaves. In late 1978, I decided to travel cross country to Orlando, took some time off of school and began working at Disney. Remember living in a small house near the Tangerine Bowl on W 36th St. I also remember driving down OBT with radio blasting as a DJ was playing “Tragedy” back to back to back. I was there only a few months but was life experience I’ve never forgotten. Great that you hung onto your ticket stub. My first concert was a 1979 Cheap Trick / Eddie Money gig in Wisconsin. Good times and thanks for sharing your story.

SO under-rated! Frampton contributed significantly to the technical side of rock, taking it in new & exciting directions. Highly talented, with great musical skills, & the obvious ability to bring his audience right along with him. He could both entertain & amaze his fans, while being REALLY easy on the eyes! He loved making music, & he translated that love to his listeners with every note. Many thanks to you, Mr. Frampton!

Maybe it's an age thing, but I don't really know if there's anything out there these days to compare to this kind of music! I realise we shouldn't look back. I feel sory for kids these days, I'm sure each generation thinks the next generations music is crap, but music from that era seemed to vary more in style and type, but the quality was much better! The musicans were very good craftsmen, had a stage presence and put on a good show! Maybe I'm geting old!

So wonderful to stumble on this. In 1977, my first wife answered a call from her best friend Sally, in Hayward California, her home town. I overheard her exclaim, "Frampton's coming to the Coliseum?" I shouted out to ask Sally when. Deb replied, "In 2 weeks." I said, to get Sally to pick up tickets, we're going. We jumped on an international flight in Vancouver, flew to San Fran, stayed with Deb's Mom and attended this very show. We were at the front, on Frampton's left, although I didn't see us in the video. What a show!!

My worst yet favorite memories of frampton comes alive was during the blizzard of 76/77. I drove nonstop from Hickory N.C. to oklahoma. Heater in my car broke in the smokie mtns. I wrapped up in a blanket and drove sometimes only able to go 15 mph. Smoking my bong, drinking TJ Swann wine and listened to this song over and over all the way. I was 17 and had a fight with my dad in Hickory. Went to stay with my grandma in okie land. Peter Frampton was along for the ride 😂 😂 😂 Thanks for the company Peter.....

Peeps used to look at me like I was from Mars when I'd put Frampton"s name in those funny arguments we all had about the "bests". I think music , especially guitar and drums, was another sport we just loved. It was harmless.
Anyway, Peter Frampton always came out of my mouth, usually before John Lennon😂. And I used to be a real good guitar player and had some cred. I stuck by it too. Song writing (as good as they get), his playing (chops and musical sensibility), his unmatched "outdoor/spacious" tone, his singing and performing for goodness sake.
I'd look at people like they were from Pluto for not considering him.
He's like Rock's Jerry Reed as far as I'm concerned.
Had humor and no depresso music.
Best "outdoor":sound I've ever heard created in an indoor "casino". Mind blowing!

Frampton was a MASTER at controlling the crowd... and playing guitar. Wow! And the keyboard player was great. Peter picked me up hitchhiking in Berkeley, California in 1968, in his big black limousine, dressed in a gorgeous brown pin-striped suit with his long curly golden locks. I didn't quite recognize him at the time, until I got home and saw him in Rolling Stone... we all had a crush on him back in those days! He was as good looking, nice and polite as you could have asked for in a young man; a real rarity back in those days. I give him 10's all the way around!

First time I heard the live cut was when I stopped at a buddy's apartment late on a Sunday night. Walked in and he was getting stoned on some hash, and I joined him. After smoking, he hands me the headphones and says enjoy. the guitar solo and closing resulted in a mind orgasm I'll never forget. I've loved this song since.

So, I pressed "pause," and quickly rolled one, then pressed "play." By the way, thanks very much for posting this, I was 17 in 76 . Peter Frampton took over mid-1976, and he weighed massively on the entire year.

Boy what a time to be young!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was 19 in 1977 and I saw Frampton only once in a small venue of 17,000. Frampton played everywhere and that's what I loved about him. I was in the first row of that concert in Memphs and I got a great pic that I still have today of him putting his hand behind his ear as he does here wanting everyone to shout, sing be a part of his concerts. He was dressed in a gold mesh shirt and gold satan bell bottom pants. And that hair, OMG!!! He was just phenomenal. Probably the best concert I ever attended and I went to about a 100 for two decades, back when you could afford a ticket. LOL! I wore the groves off Frampton Comes Alive then bought the CD. But I still have my original vinyl album..
And now he lives in Nashville less than 200 miles away. Who would a thought? And at 66, although bald, and gray he still has pretty much the same voice, but he's lost his mainly British accent. What I wouldn't give to go back to that time when music was great. But I'm still rockin out with the best bands for over four decades. My mom thought I would outgrow R&R. Not a chance.

As many copies as were sold of "Frampton Comes Alive," Peter still doesn't get the credit he deserves for his incredibly likable and playful stage persona. It flew in the face of rock conventions of the time, which tended to be much more serious-minded, but in this video we get a lot to love. What I like best about it is how EVERYTHING seems as if it'll never end. That incredible bass-line, the wailing of the guitars, the uber-'70's vocoder chat, the California sunshine and the thousands and thousands and thousands of young blonde boys and girls. Rock and roll rarely had it so good as it did on this day. Everybody seems to be feeling pretty fucking good and for the 24 minutes or so of this video so do I.

Hey, I was right there with you being creeped out!
Not only was the Cold War possibility of WWIII always lurking in those days but all of us kids were up to no good most of the time and I remember wishing the grown-ups would catch on just a little. More, though, I think it was a classic case of "be careful what you wish for." The '60's had been all about letting loose from the constraints of conformity and norms and the '70's were a bit hung over as a result. Not that we've learned anything from either decade, though!

    • @RunningMadeSuperEasy
      @RunningMadeSuperEasy 8 років тому +3

+Dash Riprock Yeah, I remember all of us kids being left to our own devices and doing some really weird stuff. But then, kids are always getting into trouble. At least we were more engaged with the real world, as opposed to kids today who do most of their stuff online in virtual reality.

Love these Day on the Green videos! I went to several Day on the Green concerts, an $8.50 ticket would buy an incredible 8 hrs. of crazy-ass good music! 1976 I saw the Who/Dead concert there ( I thought at the time that the concert turned into a mind-blowing battle of the bands between the Who & Dead; I didn't see the Who perform live again until 43 years later when I saw them at Ceasers Colosseum in Vegas!) We saw J. Geils Band, Eddie Money, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Rolling Stones, Santana, Nevell Brothers, Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and so many more. I lived up north in Sonoma County at the time and on our way to the Oakland Colosseum we would stop at Fisherman's Wharf in SF. and buy a couple of loaves of fresh sourdough bread, cut the loaf lengthwise and hollow out the middle of the bread and then stash a bottle of Jack Daniels/Southern Comfort in the middle & put the the two sides of the bread back together again and used that to smuggle our libations past security at the entrance gate; worked everytime! Damn, I miss those days!! How did Bill Graham manage to get all of those major bands & solo performers to perform at Day on the Green? (a total of 60 concerts over 20 years) Easy, Graham spent years buying and acquiring just about every live music venue in the San Francisco Bay Area, big and small, and paid hefty sums for booking priority rights to the largest arenas in the area (Candlestick Park, Cow Palace, Kesar Stadium, Oakland Coliseum Stadium, etc.). As a result, ANY and ALL popular music acts at the time HAD to book exclusively thru Bill Graham Presents if they had any hope of performing in San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area. It was a very controversial entertainment business monopoly at the time. Mick Jagger balked at Graham controlling where the Stones could play on their San Francisco tour dates, and after some hot arguing the Stones relented to Graham's control of venues. Damn, I miss those days/daze!
