Thank you Matthew. I first saw the colors on a school field trip about 1960. The Hall became one of my favorite places and still is. I remember Gerry Caughman, known as the "Flag Lady" very well. I'm proud to have her book on the battle flags of Connecticut. Most people don't know watching films of the American Civil War, the colors were shot up up after the first big battle. If soldiers who had 'seen the elephant" saw a unit with undamaged flag they'd wonder if was a new replacement flag or a an unbaptised unit. Men on both sides risked their lives to carry and not lose the colors. Some have blood stains.
