You compliment HobbyBoss/Trumpeter decals!! I have built a dozen 1/32 Trumpy/HB kits including two of these (great kits) and I have not found a decent decal set yet from them. Two issues, colour issues and an even bigger one, a tendancy to splinter into little pieces. Even a couple of coats of liquid decal film has a problem holding them together. My advice - get aftermarkeyt decal or, better still, paint masks as in this scale painted marking are far superior.
"Never had a problem" - well, yes, the decals from Trumpeter/HB arent the best for sure, although my Embrear Tucano worked okay, only just. I'm definitely masking these, since its such a simple pattern, including numbers etc. I did the same on my ICM 1/32 I-16 build too, cheers Chris
Made the two seater version of this kit, it's a nice model and I'd recommend it. Wouldn't mind getting a single seat and 'field modify' the gunners position. I've done it in 1/72, but would look good in this scale.
Its on the to do pile mate - I reckon I might just throw it together OOB in the background, it looks pretty straight forward. I've found a funky paint scheme for it too...
Great review Chris. Not a huge aircraft fan I admit but this plane has always caught my eye. Glad you gave the Tamiya 1/48th praise as I am going to have to build the Sturmovik Just to say I have built it. Having limited space 1/48th scale should do just nicely. Cheers from the U.K.
Thanks Nick - yes the Tamiya one is beautiful, I may end up getting one to do the 2 seater variant, I'll see after building this beastie first! Cheers Chris
I done there other IL2 the flying tank one either the rear MG in 1.32 with all the clear parts n metal landing gear n stuff in that lovely presentation box inside tonshow all the guns n engine off i didn't like it, it was to transparent seen everything Beautiful kit though! Zvezdas 1.48 single cockpit kits really nice obviously not zvedas own it's to nice haha! The zoom 3D resin cockpit accessories is really nice.
Gotta add this. Half the aircraft made were shot down. The stats are crazy on Soviet vehicles and aircraft losses. They averaged 24,000 armored vehicles lost each year of the war and the last 5 months of 45, they lost 25,000. Mind boggling.
@@beckersmodels i think there was literally 3 different wars fought at once. Western front was for the most part a war with rules followed. Eastern was ideology based making it easier to kill and no rules followed and the Pacific was more a racist type war where enemies on both sides were degraded down to nothing making it easy to kill but oddly with one side still using the rule of warfare. I think in general everywhere was pretty bad. Just depended on the battle. But it definitely was much worse when you didn't care one bit about your enemy
Nice walk through the kit. Pulling the trigger on ordering this one to build my car version of it. :)
Its a great kit, you're going to love it! Cheers Chris
Yep, it's true about not being able to see the engine and other parts detail but for me the enjoyment of knowing that it's there is a thrill.
Fair enough Lucas, and its good there's a balance in most kits so you as the modeller can decide what to do/show/etc.

That looks an awesome kit of one of my favorite WWII aircraft... look forward to seeing you do that!

Great vid btw 👌
Sounds like a nice beer! Cheers, Chris
@@beckersmodels all beer sounds like good.. ummmm.. beer 😉😊
you have to wonder about the engine and all the internal detail ! Just seems to push up the cost of a kit . Wales UK.

Indeed Will, the Il-2 was "as important as butter" according to Stalin. The Eastern Front was where almost all the action was in WW2....

This seems to be a one large plane!
If not seen why paint them.....
