I really appreciate the honesty. He shows that it was a long hard process. It didn't just happen overnight. It took years working 12-16 hours a day. I'm 33 and I want to start my own electrical business. Him showing that just because you didn't make all the right moves doesn't mean it's too late is a breathe of fresh air.

I’m thinking about being a electrician.. you think it’s worth it
As I understand it, one can go work on their own as an electrician after getting a Journeyman. Or as a Master Electrician one can also go on their own plus hire electricians, Is this correct?
I’m taking my class 2 electrical contractor exam in Georgia the first week of November! So excited and nervous at the same time Wish me luck lol
Electrical is not the same between automotive crafts and residential and commercial and industrial. Codes differ connections and theories differ. I respect him and thankful for his service.

Going on your own can be the best thing in the world but you have to do it right. One or two mistakes in the beginning can mean going back to work for your old boss. UA-cam can be a blessing to anyone looking to learn from us that have been in the game for a long time.

Videos like this are what young people need to see! Life is about drive and determination, not waiting for things to be handed to them all while complaining that someone else held them back in life!
I started helping my neighbors Dad which was a electrical contractor at age 14. At 16 I made a bad decision and dropped out of school, but went to work full time as electrical helper. Joined the military at 17, when I got out I went back into electrical work. Passed the State electrical contractors exam by 25, started my business with one commercial building contract and $1500. I worked 7 days a week solo for the first year doing several commercial projects, then started hiring employees. After a couple years I had 35 employees, doing all office work and design work nights and weekends for engineers and architects. After 10+ years of babysitting grown men, I took the path toward going full time engineering.
High school drop out, no business loans, no handouts. My work and professionalism kept me covered up with commercial and industrial work until I decided to take a step forward. Early 50's with several State licenses and still set business and professional goals. Drive and determination equals success.

I really appreciate that both you took the time out to help answer lots of questions that were in my mind about the electrical trade being that im an electrical apprentice myself! I have yet 3 more years of school and about 6000 more hours before becoming a Journeyman. So questions does pop up in my head at times while at work or even in leisure time in general if this is really for me because of circumstances at times whether it be financial or future thoughts. But then when i think of the positive future ahead after having the license and a business of my own, then it gives me encouragement and motivation to keep wanting to work hard physically and mentally to keep going until i reach the finish line. So thanks to the legendary electrician there and you the interviewer for throwing awsome questions which were perfectly answered as well and im grateful for coming accross the video. Many people who make it dont usually let out all the ways to achieve what they have achieved for many reasons but this is just amazing. Thanks!

So it’s been 2 years since you posted this comment. I’m thinking about becoming an electrician contractor in the future I still haven’t started at all I haven’t gone to a trade school or electrician apprentice. Would you say it’s worth it I really wanna do this but don’t know what path to take and if it’s worth it.
By far, one of the best interviews I’ve seen coming from an owner of a company.

phillips is electronics so is Panasonic, me and my wife were at Honeywell DASD at north side of town in Albuquerque new Mexico right across the street from phillps so we built the electronic boards for military aircraft of all kinds, I went into building wiring some time after that

Get lots of experiences in your electrical engineering field and save loads of money. Since you already know the theories of electricity, you are lots of steps ahead of guys in the field but with no field contracting experience. It isnt a bad thing, because youve worked hard to get your degree. But if you want become an electrical contractor, you'll need years of field experience and social skills😅 caz in our trade we do really well with that...once you become a licensed electrician and having an engineering degree, you are a master of this trade. Just be well in doing business as well. Then theres nothing stopping you from succeeding!

I’m 18 working with a pretty good company, need 3 years of work and 1-2 years of nightschool and working towards getting my journeyman’s license and later my masters to start a business does anyone have any advice?
I am from a very poor family, I always had a dream of becoming an electrician one day. I don't know where to start, who can help but sooner or later with the help of God it will be possible InshaAllah.
In sha Allah! You will need to start from the bottom, but if you are able to sacrifice at least 5 years of your time, dont look back til you reach the finish line! You will succeed. Just know that youll feel down at times because of all the hard work youll be doing even during ramadan, dont lose faith but motivate yourself to get there. Youll be good!
I,m trying to see if I could start my own electric business in Texas with just my journeyman license? Could I go under a handyman?
You need a masters for a company. 12,000 hrs. Journeyman you can do odd jobs. Fixing existing systems with a helper. But you cant do large applications without working under a master

I live in UK, and can.t Understand your grading for all the money in the world, i am an Electrical industrial inspector HV and LV FOR ONE OFF THE BIGGEST COMP. IN THE WORLD AMEC and also elect testing engineer , worked as a lead eng. on some off the biggest jobs in UK for 30 y , Airports Hospitals Power Stations you name it i done it, also electrical equipment inspector in factories prior to delivery also inspecting the design prior to approval for installation begins,setting up inspection and testing for large jobs Like Terminal 5 at HTR Airport ( 250.000 test sheets)4.500.000 million meters off wiring from 0.50 sq mm up to 1200 sq mm cables where i had 300 Elect. Insp.and Testers just for inspections and testing under me,final completion certification signed off by me prior to opening on all jobs , i like to know what my grading would be in the USA
Plenty of technician/tester journeyman and supervisor jobs at utilities, generation for industrial uses, etc. If you have an engineering license, that is a different pay grade above that of electrical testers and inspectors.

No no no no no electrical is not the same for all electrical trades , there are many different specialties of electricity building wiring is one of them but there are several
This guy is great but interviewer seems to miss that it takes real work and experience

Idk alot of things he says are not 100% accurate. The test is an open book test and not 8 or 6 hrs unless u have a disability it's 4 hours. Alot of uhms and I believes and not knowing what his first two employees are up to tells u that he's not about building and keeping relationships long term. Also can't recall specific nightmare jobs he claims happen often, trust me from experience u don't forget those jobs/lessons. This guy feels a little off to me.
Actually the master test is 6 hours long , atleast in MA , I just took it and passed ..my journeyman was 4 hours
@@drewchaisson9303 Exactly. Journeymans is a lot like wiremans test. Infact i think its nearly identical. But a masters has more information. And yes its open book. You arent aloud to have posted notes though.
In the state of Georgia the Unrestricted Electrical Contractor exam is 8 hrs long. I just took it last year 2022. 4 hrs then a 15 min break then another 4 hrs.
My Journey test in 1993 was open code book, on paper and they gave us 8 hours to complete! Masters test was 5-6 hours!
