Right? The show just wanted to aggresively establish how most soldiers are either incompetent, corrupt, or too scared. It's nice to see an NPC here and there who DOESN'T follow the script and just goes "I'm a soldier GODDAMIT! I'm gonna act like a soldier realisticly would in this situation!"

@@Legozanman They aren't dead! At the end of the credits you'll see your character in first person reaching out towards your blade that's covered in your wings of freedom cloak. The cloak is shown quite battered but still intact and your sword/ blade is still in one piece apart from a few scratches. 2:01:06

I love how they let the player imagine who the character their playing as is, with a few restrictions (example; your not in the top 10) it really makes the game and cutscenes more interesting. Also, first person in cutscenes? Amazing

I mean the 1 Person POV Character in this game, that in the end, your still a hero, fight 'till the end, sacrificing yourself just to let escape, go back, saving them, and counting on Eren, Mikasa, Armin, the rest of Survey Corps, to save humanity. I know this thread is a year old but I think this is only half true. Erwin had some part of him that did care about his comrades dying, and wanted to make the lives lost worth something. He also shows great care in making sure his comrades and recruits survive, too. Have you guys watched the OVA about Hange wanting to capture a titan and finding out the truth about them? Erwin was strongly against it because he didn't want lives to be lost in order to capture a titan, but if he was so obsessed with his dream then why be so against it? Yes, there was a deep part of him that wanted to find out the truth- that was the part of him that secretly kept him going amidst all the war and death. But that doesn't mean he was a bastard or didn't care about who died. In the end, Levi allowed him to die knowing that there would be no drive to keep him going after his dream is resolved. That to bring him back to the hell of being a commander would be absolutely cruel.
Is there a cutscene showing Jean finding Marcos body? I might have missed it while playing but it was strange if it was never shown.
