the one thing that you might consider discussing in the next video about this topic/procedure is the size of your home septic tank and the amount of liquid and solid waste inside of it at the time of the rv "dump"... i'm assuming that you probably have at least a 1250 gallon home septic tank which needs a "clean out" about every 5 years or so (based on the amount of solids that it contains) and your rv waste tanks are probably over 100 gallons and an extra 50 gallons for the rv flush process... so with that level of input into your home system, then you'd want to ensure that you do not overwhelm your home system with the sudden flow of waste water into your home septic tank.... and that's easily determined by measuring the level of liquids in the septic tank with a measuring stick... if your home septic tank is within 300 gallons of capacity then it would be advisable to clean out your home septic tank before you dump more into it (probably needs it, anyway, and that's good periodic maintenance for your home )...
I am a bit OCD so each time we use our dump hoses, couplers, adapters, etc., I soak all of those in a big tub with a disinfectant cleaner (Lysol or PineSol are my choices) then rinse the hoses/couplers thoroughly, allow them to dry then put them away. I even spray the hose carriers (there are 2 ) on our 5th wheel out with disinfectant. The hose support Slunky also gets washed. The few times I have had to use the macerator at home (we have the same FloJet as well), I wipe it with disinfectant wipes before putting it back in it's case. I know, all that sounds over the top for most people but that is just how I perform this stinky process of dumping tanks and cleaning the equipment.
Man this just makes me happy I changed over to a Natures Head compost toilet. Not for everyone but for me and my family I love no black tank drama, and OMG how much water we don't have to waste anymore.
I have used the exact same setup (including the same hose) for several years. Our "Pooperator" has one improvement over your setup... I bought a second cleanout cap; drilled a hole in the center; and inserted a brass hose elbow. Replace the standard cleanout cap with the modified cap; connect your hose; and now you have a closed system!
Great video, but a few tips. 1. You're wearing gloves and touching everything, including that radio, the switch, etc. Glove one hand, or be mindful of cross contamination. 2. Use the black tank flush hose to rinse out the black tank flush garden hose. He even said it stinks. How's it going to smell a week from now, stowed in your bay? Ew.... 3. Run that battery connection to your wet bay and just plug the macerator into that, vs. needing to open the battery bay doors. I have a fifth wheel and ran it 20 feet back to my sewer connections.
We have used the Unique RV Digest-It for several years and really love it. We have had zero issues with smell and the tank flushes clean. We dump at home routinely using our sewer clean-out with no problems. We recently removed our toilet to put in a Trelino separating toilet (for water conservation). When we looked into our black tank it looked like new and there was no smell with it wide open. I attribute this completely to RV Digest-It. The nurse in me did cringe a bit at all the things that were touched with and without gloves. If you get in the habit of thinking "My hands are contaminated" whenever you have gloves on it will help remind you to take them off before touching other things: phone, walkie-talkie, camera, etc. Great video. Thanks!
Funny. I was once sent on a service call for a bad smell from a solid ink printer. I arrive and cannot detect a problem. I asked the person who placed the call about what she observed when this happened. She said someone was standing next to it then walked away. I explained it was from an external source other than the printer That also went into my report too. I could write a book.
I mooch dock full time and have a permanently installed macerating pump. The septic tank I dump into is 100 ft away and up a slight incline. I live alone and dump every two weeks. Black water tank first, grey water second (cleans out the hose). Only problem is that I went overboard and got a super heavy duty hose which is hard for me to wrangle. I watched a bunch of videos and no one bothers to use the super heavy, super expensive hose I got. Today I’m going out to buy a reg garden hose- and this system will be no sweat at all!!!! PS: I occassionally dump buckets of grey water in the black water tank which really “greases” the wheels !!!!
This is an awesome video, you guys rock!! We love that you did your own TP test - a good tank treatment is so important to help breakdown what's in your black tank!
My wife and I watch all of your videos. We just purchased a 2019 Fleetwood flare. It has the coolest thing it’s a macerator toilet. Never seen one before it works awesome you stepped on the pedal one time let go. It starts the process it fills the toilet, and then it flushes and grinds, every RV should have one.
We also never put the toilet paper in the RV toilet, we also had a waste basket with a zip plastic bag in it, emptied it every day, not a problem , what made us start doing g this is my husband had to remove a poop Sickle once and sooooo the TP doesn’t go in the RV toilet anymore,
Our camper is set up so you can open and close the sewer line and the black and grey water separately. I always empty the black water first then close off the sewer access and run the grey water into the black water tank, then empty the blackwater again.
I think since the toilet paper you purchased from Sams (which I'm correct is the standard type for homes) disintegrates pretty fairly to pass through the macerator. So, I would think household toilet paper would be my choice.
For right vs left, it's always refering to the "top of the circle" direction. Confused myself a few times before I figured that out. Clockwise vs counter-clockwise is clearer but doesn't fit the known saying (righty-tighty, etc) as much. So I just look at the top of the circle to determine which way is "right" and which way is "left"
Loving all of your tips on your videos. I have always remembered the saying that grandma taught me..... "Righty Tighty, Lefty Lucy". May help a bit, it still does me. Looking forward to more of your awesome videos as we just bought an RV. Have a great day!
It's a clock face. Which way do the hands move around the face? Clock-wise 😊 Lefty-loosey means rotating the thing that you are turning, to the left, or counter-clockwise to loosen it.
For normal, right-handed threads, point your right thumb the way you want the nut of cover to go and curl your fingers. Turn it the way your fingers are curled. That's why it's called a right-handed thread.
Our outside sewer drain whatever thing is close enough to the driveway for the regular sewer hose to reach. We just used it to dump once. Don't leave it hooked up or anything.
The tank treatment also comes in a powder. After figuring out the math, I got the powder. It is in a large jug. It fits in my under the sink cabinet. I haven't had to repurchase any for over a year.
You can solve a lot of issues with dumping by installing a bidet toilet seat. It will cut you use of toilet down to 4-5 sheets per use, you just need it enough for drying.
A standard kitchen waste disposer inlet is 3 inches. The black water outlet on RVs is also three inches. See where this is going? The maceration pump costs many times more than a disposal. I use a Badger 5. It chops stuff into the consistency of mush and has enough power to pump it through a 3/4" garden hose for MILES. I no longer use my RV's black tank at all. Instead, I use a composting toilet. Much more sanitary and way less hassle. I also use a composting toilet in my residence.
Also I saw a test between Matt’s Liquify and Unique back tank treatment by RV Tech Tip Tuesday that was very interesting. Also Todd has no problem with using 1 ply septic system safe TP.
There is a clean-out in the basement at my house. Would love still have a clean-out in the yard on the line from the house to the sewer? I’ve never seen one. But I’ve never seen a main water shutoff in the yard either but I’m pretty sure it exists.
As one which has used a Flo-Jet macerator for about 10 years, a couple comments. 1) When putting away a “poo” associated hose… blind connect outlet to inlet. This ensures nothing ‘escapes’ into areas you don’t want it to! This also guarantees no loss of hose washer! 2) As I do not have a dedicated tank flush system, the fresh side inlet is invaluable for ‘back-flushing’ the tank. My pump will not allow exit flow if turned off, which makes back filling the tank effortless. WARNING!! When back filling, one has to have a ‘safety monitor person’ to be certain NOT to overflow!!!! Keep o Glamping!
I don't have a cleanout in the yard for my septic tank. I was thinking about putting on in to dump my camper but I just back it into a bean field behind my house and dump it there. It is quite simple to dump. I have never had to use my sewer hose.
Great video demo, I just have extra hose, for when I do have to dump at home, less expensive, not so much work either, looks like a good product, good luck with it, and I do use Scotts disolving, seems to do the job, and yes we live FULL time in a camper, but we do also take camping trips.
Suggestion for your next project. Cover all the outside of your reflectix that you can see thru the windows with felt. Use spray adhesive to hold the felt to the reflectix.
Handy. Our clean out is on the other side of the yard from the coach. Convent. One note for those inclined. If the macerator fails, don't plug it to power in your shop. It will do a very, very bad thing to the shop.
Fortunately for me, it was a friend who's a bit if a tinker decided to help someone. As soon as he attached to a battery it came to life and launched its contents all over his workshop. He had a lot to say about this.
Clockwise Tightens - Counter Clockwise Loosens; If the clock is running right, keep it (Put it on.). If the clock is running backward, get rid of it (Take it off.)
I have found this works well on houses with outdoor clean outs. However, houses with basements don’t generally do not have outdoor clean outs. Their clean outs are in the basement near where the sewer line enters the house.
ALWAYS connect the ends of your hose once it is rolled up and ready to store. No smells, no contamination in freshwater hoses, no bugs or spiders in the hoses, no drips in containers.
Its righty tighty lefty loosey when your point of reference is the 12 oclock position of the clock. Righty means the top of your circle moves to right and is "tight". Clockwise to close tight is more clear to remember, just doesnt rhyme.
Clockwise = Turn to the right = tight Anti-Clockwise = turn to the left = loose I'm sure there's an engineering reason for left and right and how to explain it... That cover's 99% of things but every now and again you run into reverse threads. If you're struggling to undo something, try and tighten it a little bit. For normal threads sometimes the back and forth helps, but if it's actually reverse thread then you'll start to loosen it.
Quick question. I was watching one of your videos and saw that you recently replaced the lighting. Can you possibly tell me which video that is? I can't seem to find it again. Thank you very much and we love watching your videos.
One thing with macerators is that they don't flow as fast as the stinky slinky so the flow may not get all the solids from the bottom of your tank. Also, after you dump, you can coil the hose up, then run clean water through it to get the rest of the stuff out, then just lift it one coil at a time to clean it out.
I use Borax and detergent. Never have problems and sensors work perfectly. Do you have standard working sensors? Remember you have storage tanks, not septic tanks. They have totally different functions. These are just my opinions! You do you!
What does Alaska have around his neck? We watch your videos for the how to and all of your adventures. We are new to the RV world. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
So if you put a plastic sandwich bag on the Wilkie talkie when you hold it with your dirty gloves you don’t have to clean it after your done doing the septic dumping
THIS is why they put those funny brass gadgets permanently on newer outside water faucets for hoses (hose bibs). Keeps water from hoses going backwards into the house in weird situations. And why kids are no longer supposed to drink out of garden hoses! Those funny gadgets are not "flow restrictors" to save water. They are backflow preventers. And don't ever flush those so called flushable wipes or tampons down these drains.
How long is your discharge hose? I wasn’t able to to find a pump that was rated for more than 50’ of 3/4” hose. I have to use 100’ of hose so I just make sure I don’t run the pump more than 3-4 minutes at a time to prevent overheating.
I, Rick, turn on the flush hose and then open the black tank. Then I set a timer for 10 minutes and go about getting other stuff put away in that 10 minutes and then turn off the hose and shut off the shut the blank tank and fill with 2 minutes of water then I drain the gray water tank. Human poop is not fertile.
With the amount of "digestit" used in that little bit of water in the jar you would need a gallon or more for your black tank. If you are going to experiment do it correctly.
We have what appears to be the same maserator but our outlet hose is attached to the bottom of it and not the side like where your red hose was. Are we doing it wrong or can you use either depending on space constraints?
AKA "Muffin Muncher" 😅 It's what we call it when we dump the trucks tank from serving comercial aircraft lavs. Same thing but 6 feet long and 3 feet wide.
If you are close enough to your sewer access you can dump the way you always do. You don’t necessarily need to use a Macerator. RV Blogger has a Vedic about it.
No to be disagreeable, and I'm assuming you have a septic system. A residential septic tank and leach field isn't meant to have what I assume is around 40 gallons from an RV holding tank dumped into it all at once. They're designed for intermittent water flow.
We still use the GLORIOUS RED CHARMIN TP! But, we put all TP in our little trash bin in a WM bag. Then, we toss the bag in the trash at the RV dumpsters. If mama ain't happy, then NOBODY'S happy! Lol 😂
We just moved to new house with septic and tank lids are buried under patio. There is no handy clean out pipe like that. Any recommendations how to add that?
Clockwise and counterclockwise is easier for most people. You probably should keep a few gloves in the pump box in case you can't find them when you need them. Keep extra hose seals in the box in case you loose one on the hose. Should wear face shield so waste doesn't get in your eyes or mouth.
The most obvious thing I see when watching how to dump videos is when wearing gloves to keep it off you please stop touching things other than the items used to dump, for instance, Radios, camera, etc and when you take the gloves off don't touch the dumping tools like the hoses and pump.
I thought the same thing....they're wearing gloves yet keep touching all of the things they'll later touch without gloves. While you're wearing the gloves to protect your body....pretend that you are wearing them to protect everything else.....Radios, handles, tools, the side of the camper, your face, the camera, etc. Gloves can give a false sense of security. The gloves are also there to protect things you touch from the 'crap' on your hands (that you will later touch without a gloved hand)....and if your glove is dirty it isn't doing that anymore. Think about food prep and wearing gloves - the glove is there to protect the food from your hands, but if you touch raw chicken then use that gloved hand to touch the light switch or move the knife that is used to chop salads....none of it did any good.
Great video. Really enjoy all your videos. I was worried you were gonna have a poopsie with your flip flops on. Wouldn’t go well with the toe nail polish lol. Thank you again for sharing.
Cracks me up how somany think alittle poo is so disgusting. Its all natural, organic and biodegradable. I mean do you put gloves on to wipe your butt? Just wash your hands afterwords and keep a dedicated hose for black-tank connections.
I believe they are referring to the black tank Masterclass video with the guy from Kleentank. I thought the same thing when I watched this video, but, realized that video was on a different UA-cam channel, not yours.
I am sorry. It was the guy from "Enjoy the Journey" I got him confused with Ben. Obviously I watch too much UA-cam about RVers. I am fairly new to RVing and trying to learn as much as possible. I like that you guys are keeping it real.
I realize you live in Florida, but most Floridians do not how to use a septic tank/drain field. First, septic tanks are not best design to provide the best function removing waste. Property size and septic tanks are established by local government for the contractor. Most homes are on a 1/4 acre lot with one tank (900 gallon) and a drain field. When a family add children, dishwasher, washing machine, garbage disposal and your rv, there is a good chance your are over working your system. A over worked, miss used, can cost 10,000 thousand of dollars for repairs. As a Floridian with my family of over 100 years in Florida, I have a pretty good knowledge how to maintain the system. That being said usually cannot be done on a 1/4 acre lot. Need two tanks, one grey and one black, need two drain fields. Both tanks combine should be 1200 gallons or more. Putting two much water in the system does not give it time to dissolve waste and will back up your drain field. You may be also be polluting your drinking water.
When I get home I dump in to my portble dump wagon. Wheel it over to the vent. Dump away. Now if that is legal or not. Don't know But I will keep doing it till the town poop patrol tells me .
Your comment about using twice as much RV paper to do the job made me laugh. I've noticed I need to use even more than that since I have long fingernails. You know what I mean. What actual kind of TP did you decide to use? You never said.

be sure to use a back flow device to keep the potable water and sewer water apart NEVER cross connect as it can cause illness

You do you!
Yes, we have tanks sensors and no issues with them. Thanks for watching
Clockwise to tighten , counterclockwise to loosen . Great video .
Thanks for the tip!
What does Alaska have around his neck? We watch your videos for the how to and all of your adventures. We are new to the RV world. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
He was wearing an inflatable anti-licking collar
We had My Daughter and husband in ours for 6 months. The biggest pain was flushing the tanks. But my OCD on cleaning was part of it. LoL
😂 That’s hilarious.
Our hose is about 100 feet - however the new flo jet pump can handle it - no problem
Muffin muncher - like it! thanks for watching
If you are close enough to your sewer access you can dump the way you always do. You don’t necessarily need to use a Macerator. RV Blogger has a Vedic about it.
All depends on if you are downhill or uphill from your clean out as the laws of gravity don’t change. Thanks for watching
No to be disagreeable, and I'm assuming you have a septic system. A residential septic tank and leach field isn't meant to have what I assume is around 40 gallons from an RV holding tank dumped into it all at once. They're designed for intermittent water flow.
Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Draw a line from the square out to one side, then that line will go left to losen and right to tighten.
👍
This was so funny! Laughed through the great instructional video...still laughing..
Glad you enjoyed!
Righty tidy lefty loosey 😅....Walmart, Great Value every day soft dissolves completely. However, we usually don't put paper in the turdlet. 😅
We still use the GLORIOUS RED CHARMIN TP! But, we put all TP in our little trash bin in a WM bag. Then, we toss the bag in the trash at the RV dumpsters. If mama ain't happy, then NOBODY'S happy! Lol 😂
It is still called a wrench. Drain plug.
Please post the link for the macerator. I’ve been interested in purchasing one
We just moved to new house with septic and tank lids are buried under patio. There is no handy clean out pipe like that. Any recommendations how to add that?
What are you going to do when the septic tank needs pumping, they have to access the lids each time.
Yes it's a pain. Not our decision. Previous owners did that. Only needs to be pumped every 3-5 years.
Won’t putting septic tank treatment in a holding tank cause problems with the black tank?
Not if it's the right treatement.
Clockwise tightens. Counter clockwise loosens. I hope you guys are on City sewer.
👍
Clockwise and counterclockwise is easier for most people.
You probably should keep a few gloves in the pump box in case you can't find them when you need them.
Keep extra hose seals in the box in case you loose one on the hose.
Should wear face shield so waste doesn't get in your eyes or mouth.
👍
Love Your Channel, Always Great Content, Thank You 😊 🙏
Thanks for watching
I do "clock in and counter out." Makes it easier for me than lefty loosy righty tighty!
Thankfully, we have a clean out right at our driveway. No long hose or macerater needed.
Nice!
Great video. Really enjoy all your videos. I was worried you were gonna have a poopsie with your flip flops on. Wouldn’t go well with the toe nail polish lol. Thank you again for sharing.
Thanks for watching
very funny video and thanks for so much information.👍👍👍DG from Fort Lauderdale Fl
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the video 😂❤😊.
Fun yet informative. Thanks
Clockwise is to your right.
Countclockwise is to your left.
The absolute best part was that UA-cam put Febreeze commercials in the video. 😂
Clockwise will tighten and ccw will loosen, thats easier for me too.
👍
Thanks for the video. Great for moochdocking
You are welcome!
Cracks me up how somany think alittle poo is so disgusting. Its all natural, organic and biodegradable. I mean do you put gloves on to wipe your butt? Just wash your hands afterwords and keep a dedicated hose for black-tank connections.
Do you have a 12 volt battery setup on the battleborn system?
Yep!
I thought your tank service guy said no chemicals should be used. From your previous video. Now I am confused on which is best.
We've been using Unique Camping + Marine for over 2 years now...which video are you referring to?
I believe they are referring to the black tank Masterclass video with the guy from Kleentank. I thought the same thing when I watched this video, but, realized that video was on a different UA-cam channel, not yours.
I am sorry. It was the guy from "Enjoy the Journey" I got him confused with Ben. Obviously I watch too much UA-cam about RVers. I am fairly new to RVing and trying to learn as much as possible. I like that you guys are keeping it real.
Ben doesn't move his hands as much when he talks, as Tom does😃👍🇺🇲
That was so gross and yet I couldn't stop watching... lol
😂
Where do you get those pumps?
Here on Amazon: amzn.to/3v569U7
Great video! It could have been less than 10 minutes, but I still learned a lot.
You may be also be polluting your drinking water.
clockwise is righty tighty, counter clockwise is lefty loosey
Always disconnect the Black wire first (also applies to battery charging), then disconnect the Red wire.
Good to know, thanks for watching!
Off... counterclockwise. On.... clockwise
We use the Sam’s club brand
