he jumps with the shorty trying to break the shield (obviously)
but my guess is at 1:34 he jumps for the second time right after breaking shield, expecting return fire at pretty much the same time, so when he's in the air he wouldn't lose momentum and land to take a second shot with both sides being pretty much equal in that engagement instead of getting slowed by bullets in the body or even headshot instantly as he broke the shield like he would be if he was on the ground the whole time.
