I bought this template and received it in the mail yesterday. And I just placed a order for 2 rolls of ur 10ft tyvek. Cant wait to get it to make one of these
Aaron, I know you don't remember me but my wife and I had a great time at your booth at the Sheridan trade show. We were there on Saturday morning and were going a little nuts over the sheer variety of stuff that you had for sale. I have looked at your website since then and I am even more impressed by the quantity and quality of merchandise you have for sale. I am also an Army veteran although my time in the service was much earlier than yours, I was on active duty from 1980 to 1984, in the Field Artillery. I run a leather craft workshop a couple a of times a month at a small veterans organization here where I live called the Veterans Art Center. I have actually been away from this for some time because of back problems, today will be my first time back and I will definitely be introducing the guys to your website.
Hi Aaron, great video and did I ever learn something great today. Tyvek Card pockets, OMG. I've made a few billfolds using the standard "V" leather patterns using leather skived as thin as I could and the pockets always look pregnant. using this process with Tyvek is great and the pockets look nice and flat. Thanks for the lesson.
Just got this template in the mail today, waiting on a 2-3oz side still but I’m glad I watched your video, I ended up having to buy a few more tools cuz of you...lol but I’m excited to make these, they’re very popular here so maybe I’ll make my money back on the tools.
@@makersleathersupply1220 thanks for the response. I recently found d your channel. Very informative. I'm going to order at least two of your templates come next payday. BTW, Merry Christmas to you and yours.
i just completed my first money clipper went good thanks for the template and video i made it from croc print in the color of slate, trying to decide on a price lol thats always the toughest part for me.
Aaron. just ran into an issue with the sticky tape, i have discovered that if i put the tape directly on the edge of the cut lines the tape will "travel" as cards are being put in and taken out. i think a good way to remedy this is by leaving about 1 to 2 mm of space just under the line and then make the crease of the TYVEK slightly over the tape but still under the cut line. i am currently remaking the pocket i ran into this issue with. but out of curiosity and for future reference, is there another way to affix the tyvek without the use of the tape?
Thanks for the video, I was wondering what size Tyvek you are using for your card pockets? I was wanting to order your Tyvek but wasn't for sure whether to buy the 2.25" or the 3.75" roll for card pocket on your wallets. Thanks for your help. Tammy
Great video! I am wondering what kind of contact cement you use. It looks so different than mine. I use Barges. Yours looks so much easier to use! Thank you!
I love my template. I called the other day about the hole punch and talked to you. But make note that the beginner punch set ("Tandy") although it fits...it is beveled like cone shape. I cracked my template :(. Not happy...but I should have thought first...and not been so anxious to try...lol
As to punching holes in leather prior to stitching... when does one use the wheel & awl, as in this video, vs the forks that I’ve seen in other videos? Or just personal preference at the time of the project?
Are there any plans to make this design for the interior with with snap on the outside like in your Biker wallet? Is that something you could do as well?
Oh man that would be excellent...thanks for taking the time to answer these questions and I will continue to support and shop at your website. Keep up the good work
Sir. I am curious as to your preference on the stching. Did you place the fold on the outer edges? Or inside side with the stictching? My video was a bit blurry.
@@makersleathersupply1220 thank you for the fast response. Hindsight while putting it together realized furnishing the foldes edge would not be attractive. The templates are incredible as are the videos. A great help for a self taught like myself
If I was using veg tan and not horween, at what point would I dye the leather..and also how many ounces leather for the liner, or could you use suede or canvas?
I'm only asking because you said you ran the liner through a splitter, and I do not have access to one. If I use the same 2-3oz I used for the pockets, and use it for the liner, would that work, or does it need to be even thinner
@@makersleathersupply1220 well maybe some time you can make a video on how to attach to waxy leather. I ordered a few sides of Horween Dublin and its gorgeous stuff but stubborn , stubborn to glue! Thanks for the info brother
Only time I've had people say there was a problem is when they were using either a tape that doesn't work well or a leather that tape doesn't like to stick to (oil tan is a good example of this).
I’m using your template, tape, tyvek and bridle leather. About $100 worth of stuff that doesn’t work. Didn’t work on veg tan with Fiebings Pro Die purchased from you as well. I don’t think tape works on any leather that is died.
I can sit and watch these videos all day
Great video. Thank you for not deleting the taping process. Quite often it’s daunting to be told “continue until...”. PS thank you for your service
So frikin clever doing the slots that way! I don't like bulk either!. Going to get some tyvek today!!! Thank you!!!

Tammy Altic hi! The 2.25 fits the roper and tri fold wallets. The 3.75 is for the billfold and passport style.
Where can this be found?
Great video! I am wondering what kind of contact cement you use. It looks so different than mine. I use Barges. Yours looks so much easier to use! Thank you!
It is makers leather supply branded they sell it on their website

Minnie Komperda call back and let me know which piece you cracked!
Excellent video! Q: If using different weights of leather for different parts of the wallet, how do you get an exact color match?
Some folks have a splitter and they just split the pieces, I usually just use contrasting colors and avoid the problem.
Is the tyvek you used a tape (with sticky side/s) or some sort of a ribbon? I have troubles finding anything suitable in the EU.
You can easily use ribbon. The tyvek is a paper like woven material.
Did you cut your Tyvec with a chop saw? I can only find the bid rolls at the hardware store
I recommend a very sharp knife with strait edge but paper chop saw would do great
what size hole punch is that? does it come out of the set you offer?
Brian Hines we do have a hole punch set that fits this. On the website it is called the mini punch set under the C.S. Osborne category.
Wondering what leather you usually use (not Horween). Would pull-up leather work?
Anything 4-6oz will work on the outside piece. The interior is best from 2-3oz
As to punching holes in leather prior to stitching... when does one use the wheel & awl, as in this video, vs the forks that I’ve seen in other videos? Or just personal preference at the time of the project?
Purely personal preference
@@makersleathersupply1220 /Thinking the wheel version is more efficient, if you're making large quantities for sale.
I want to give that roller a shot of 3-in-one soooo bad.
can you use the glycerine saddle soap to burnish the edges on wickett craig leather projects as well?
You can indeed. I am not a huge fan of it.

Oh man that would be excellent...thanks for taking the time to answer these questions and I will continue to support and shop at your website. Keep up the good work
How do you determine price for finished leather product? Is there a rule of thumb for cost plus __%?
Material+time+Desired margin
Sir. I am curious as to your preference on the stching. Did you place the fold on the outer edges? Or inside side with the stictching? My video was a bit blurry.

Just remember if you are going to dye the card holders and such, do it before you make the pockets. Don't ask how I know.
Oh... you too? Ha ha ha.
@@makersleathersupply1220 just ginning along watching the video, then crap! It'll turn out. Just have to be careful with the dye. Used the free Tyvek.
Hi! There is one thing i dont understand. How does the sticky tape hold the fabric below the cuts. Since it is not sewn.. doesnt this come loose?
I've been making them this way a long time and haven't had one fail yet. Gotta use good tape. Ours is great stuff from 3m
Hello Aaron, What size and type thread are you using on your wallets there??
where do you get that black cloth used for the pockets. Looked on your site and didnt see it.
We have it. It is called Tyvek.
makersleathersupply.com/search?q=Tyvek
@@makersleathersupply1220 Thank you! I was spelling it wrong
If I was using veg tan and not horween, at what point would I dye the leather..and also how many ounces leather for the liner, or could you use suede or canvas?
Dye it after the pieces are cut out. 4-5oz for the exterior and 2-3oz for the interior.
I'm not a fan of fabric inside wallets, hard to control the fraying.
I'm only asking because you said you ran the liner through a splitter, and I do not have access to one. If I use the same 2-3oz I used for the pockets, and use it for the liner, would that work, or does it need to be even thinner
when you burnish .... does the spit make it better?
DudeDi Va yes it definitely does when using saddle soap!
i just can not get it dark like you can ... ps... you are awesome and i love that you share you knowledge
DudeDi Va thanks. Good burnish is not easy to achieve. Watch our video on edge paint, it is more fun with all the color options.
thank you ... i like my makers supply glue jar and tevek
Where did you get that tooling maul? Awesome vid
Does it say what width to cut tyvek or ribbon?
Roughly the width of a card. Mine is cut 2.25"
So how do you stick that tyvek to waxy leather like Horween Dublin or Horween Derby?
To be brutally honest, I don't. If I were using one of those leathers I would use ribbon or something I could sew in.
@@makersleathersupply1220 I was hoping you would have a trick for that. What Horween leathers was that then that you used in the video? Cordovan??
@@damesydneyleatherworksprie9136 I believe it was. It was a scrap I got from Springfield and honestly, the only Hoeven I've ever used.

How much does a hand sewn wallet like this run?
Generally 100 to 130 USD
What is the border allowance for stitching something like this? I don't want to make it too big, and the inside bee too small.
About 1/8" works well
@@makersleathersupply1220 thanks so much!
Is there another video of this with a better angle
Nope. Unfortunately back then I really had no clue what I was doing with video stuff. Now I barely have a small clue.
Better wrap duct tape around that glue jar just in case you knock it off your table. Ask me how I know, LOL. Saves a real mess.
One more question: where did the name "Roper Wallet" come from?
Well, I could make up an elaborate and comical story.... but the truth is I don't know... I've just always heard long wallets called that.
Anyone have a problem with tape not working well. The credit cards push down the tape and tyvek
