I am 18 years old and I have deactivated all of my socials (besides UA-cam of course). When I did this many of my peers were all "How would you talk to people? Why would you do this?" Studies, many studies, have proven that being on these platforms cause anxiety and mess with our dopamine responses, but so many people use them that those who dislike the platforms go "whelp, if everyone else is doing it, I have to do it too or else I will be out of the loop." I had to take a long look at where I want to be in the future before I deleted anything, and go "Do I really want to be 40 staring at my phone for at minimum an hour a day? Am I really happy doing this?" I am glad that I disengaged, but I also feel sorry for those who feel they cannot and must not otherwise they will be scrutinized for it. Best of luck to all of you, good job Ari.

But if you want to engage with your others you cant really deny the medium is out there.
Good mindset, just dont overdo it as with everything...
you are wise beyond your years, but let me tell you what you already heard: the middle way is the golden way almost anytime! Pandoras Box cant be closed, the media is here to stay and so on... ;)

I haven't watched news, or looked regularly at Facebook, Instagram, etc., since the summer of 2020. I got sucked into social media and tv while we were in lockdown, and I realized how much it was actually harming me. I only watch YT on the weekends as a treat when I have lots of cleaning and chores to catch up on! Great video!!!

Wouldn't we all like to do that??..Ignore life and hide in our phones. But sadly someone has to be the grown up. We can't hide from life. I will carry what I have to carry, but I won't stop warning people..male or female about the dangers of mindlessly scrolling and scrolling your life away. It becomes more than a habit. Soon you look back and realize you accomplished nothing and were part of nothing. And left others to carry what was left.

What helped me with social media and youtube is finding different hobbies/activities to do whenever I felt the urge to go online. Go and work out (if you have the time) or grab a book. Exercise in general occupies both the body and the mind and it clears your thoughts. And books are self explanatory. You can find different things that will work for you though. I no longer have any social media accounts (except for youtube, but I'm not on as much as I used to be), last one I had was instagram which I deleted over a year ago. It's so freeing, once you get used to not having it you'll never miss it.

I like what you said about we're like in a experiment that we didn't sign to participate. No one was ready for the fast changes of the last two decades. No one knew how to deal with it healthly, and we're getting conscious about the bad things just now. As you said, there are many good things! Like, I'm from Brasil and thanks to Internet and youtube and other media I have acess to amazing content. In instagram I follow a lot of professionals that inspires me, but even with this good side, we have to watch ourselves to not lose our focus. Sometimes I feel lost with so much goof content, or pressured and anxious seeing amazing people because I feel I'm so late for all, I have to always learn and do more, but like, the time I spend seeing "good content" or even relaxing watching some cat videos...I could be using to take care of my mental health, or to improve my skills, or many other stuff.
It's a challenge to learn how to deal with all of this healthly. As you said, it's impossible to cut it off our lifes, we need it to work, to study, to keep in touch with family and friends, but we have to always be watching to not lose focus and keep scrolling...
I love your reflections videos, please keep sharing, it's so important!!

Trust me! Good video. I’ve had to delete the apps off my phone to not get sucked into the vortex of scrolling. I just re-install and check it every few days now for messages and some cheeky scrolling when i WANT to.

I quitted most social media apps like 4 years ago, spending too much time on these time consuming apps, I rather spend time outside or being with friends.. rather watch so much drama on something, it gives also more mental rest from FOMO like who cares! Great topic , keep it up❤!

This is the most serious and reflected video from you in a very long time. You look much older and serious now. Welcomed! I can't imagine how Chinese social media and sites are with not only infinite scroll but also wild subs flying everywhere. Not a single frame without something to beg for attention. It would melt my brain. Can you make a comparison : just how bad are Chinese clones of ig, fb etc compared to the west

I'd really like to commend and validate your feelings on this matter. Not only are there negative consequences to the everyday man who finds that an extra 30-60 minutes of their day has disappeared into the ether; there are dire consequences to those struggling with mental health. A depressed person may find their sense of worth or value in the many innumerous hours they spend scrolling through a tiktok feed; I for sure was one of them. This sense of rebellion against this "thing we did not ask for or sign up for" is in my opinion a valiant fight. Kudos to you Xiaoma, and thank you for being another voice in this fight against this corporate consumerism interest.

Totally agree. I just decided I need to remove instagram the other day because of threads. I kept getting pulled into random people's venting and drama and I don't even know these people, but they're stressing me out. It's not worth it and not healthy to be constantly bombarded with things that we didn't even need to know about.

I so totally agree with what you say here. I'm not into Tik Tok or Instagram but it's UA-cam shorts. When I'm going to sleep, I will (with the intention) watch a couple of shorts only to look at the clock and be shocked that an hour or more has gone by without even realizing what happened. And unfortunately I have realized that this has turned into an addiction for me. At home when I have lots of things that need to be done, I get drawn into watching these shorts. I even have noticed it happening at work. On breaks instead of going for a walk or talking with coworkers I'm on my phone watching shorts. I have been trying to get this under control but like any addiction it's been a battle. I don't even know when this started because I never was like this before.

I left social media 3 years ago for a lot of the same reasons you did. It's hard to explain how much my mental health has improved by not constantly digesting all of that stuff - especially the news. The whole worlds news is too heavy to carry every day.

good stuff xiama! You're looking good too with the weight loss. Also, we are collectively trying to connect through this social media while also being addicted to nonsense. Its a really catch 22. The good news is, a lot of us are feeling the need to break out of it, meaning that real life may start becoming a trend again ahaha. I have wasted lots of time personally, and I hope collectively we make the move away from all this algorithm addictive engagement

For the record, I don't have an instagram account... I don't have a Tik Tok account... I got my facebook to stay in contact with my friends (I don't EVER go on actual facebook, my bookmark goes directly into Messenger...), and a youtube account for language learning and cute pet videos. Screw social media. Go see your f'n friends... let go of FB, instagram, etc...

Last year in June, I deleted all my social media with the exception of Facebook (unfollowed all my friends, still friends with them though, and joined a bunch of book groups because I love reading) and it has been one of the best decisions I've made for myself. I have so much more time to do hobbies that I enjoy. I went from reading 3 books in 2023, to finishing 15 books in 3 months so far in 2024. It's been great
