These puppy training videos should never be missing cause enough people take dogs from the shelter and basically they have to be trained like big puppies with a big heart of love for them. Wonderful, I am still searching for the one with the 4 Matt’s , I believe its all about heel, and you just turn on the spot while the dog always sits on the matt , very structured caring way, like it a lot. Thank you for All your videos . I keep watching them over and over cause a person can find something new every time😊
GREAT demonstration Stonnie! Thanks!!! I had a yellow lab that wouldn’t break a stay until he was released, I’m getting Shelties in 3 more days and looking forward to getting started with training!
I like teaching stay in a down first because I think it's easier for the dog, since they're less prone to moving from a resting position. And you can simply just capture them already staying until you lure them out of it with a conditioned release cue. Then I teach stay in general for safety reasons. I don't even bother generalizing it to a sit most of the time. Doesn't serve much real life purpose, you're right.
So if someone knocks on the door and he doesn't stay, what do you do? Take a few steps back and practice more with smaller distractions until they can stay under heavy distraction? End the session and try again later? Put them back on the table and give them treats once they are calm? Sorry for the silly question. Your videos are great! Just unclear on what to do when things go wrong
I've been debating on teaching the 'stay' command. I've seen a few videos where the trainer teaches the dog that 'sit' or 'down' mean sit without the command to 'stay.' Meaning that until another command is given, the dog's command is 'sit' with the understanding that stay is implied. This weekend I plan to start working on a stay, just not sure if I should use a stay command or integrate it into other dog commands. Any thoughts?
Very straightforward and helpful. My 6 mo. old GSD is doing well with this. Just held 3 mins. in place while I walked in and out of room. How long should I expect him to stay? I am enjoying your videos very much. Thanks!
Hey Stonnie love the videos. I'm picking up my 5 week old Malinois this weekend and was wondering if you had any suggestions on potty training for going outside? Also what are your thoughts on neutering a working dog? I've read many different opinions of doing it as soon as the puppy is of age versus waiting til the dog is 2 years old. Thoughts?
Potty training is easy. Just three steps: Supervision, confinement and outside time with exercise after periods of inactivity. I never neuter my dogs, the downside is just too much for me, personally.
5 weeks bit young.. can't u delay till 8 weeks.. mom and litter mates teach puppy manners as well.. Puppy still suckling? Or full feed intake on dry pellets.?
You don't need it. If you're being sarcastic, he explains why he has the dog on the table in the video, and tells "Courney" where he should place his dog during this training.
For this stay, we have a problem with our dog barking as soon as we walk away when the dog is tethered and will not stop until we come back. Any ideas how to make it stop? We tried to not give treat when she's barking but she just barks non stop.
Easy fixed. teach the dog to 'stay' same way you would teach a puppy to extend the behaviour. Don't forget, you're gonna have to do reviews of it while you're out, or it'll become a 'forgotten skill'.
@@StonnieDennis ya already have, it was just a harmless Hee-Haw type joke, corn-fed humor. You know..as if I was a dumb girl from the Big City and didn't know diddly about horses or ther training. Just a little word play is all. Somethin' dumb ya see in a Mickey Rooney movie, or a skit in Vaudeville, or Hee Haw. No need to get all het up there, young feller. I's only tryin' to give YOU a laugh.
+Nick Lugo I teach the stay by using a touch pad which I work the dog to a lot. I have a video of it on my channel if you care to see. But honestly, in my system, when I hit the "stay", the dog does it within a few minutes.
I noticed you didn't specifically say "stay" or "good stay" when working with this... is that something that should be done with a brand new untrained dog? or just focus on body language? thanks -love the vids
+Michael Kennedy What you say isn't really as important as how you say it...after you've been doing this stuff for a while, the cues just kind of become smaller and smaller...
hello my name is joe billings i have a 5 month German Shepherd i really don't work with her like i should but my other little dog is a Pomeranian and she's outside all day long with their plays and runs around and both of the dogs are inside at night she eats 3 times a day gets a lot of exercise outside and plays with her other little doggie I don't want a dog that's going to be aggressive and kills but I want a dog that can protect and protect our family as well so should I email you if so what is your email
The worst thing I see owners do is that they immediately go for distance instead of duration. This is a huge "Faut Pas!". You always want to make sure to work on duration before distance. I have a video showcasing this on my channel. You all are welcome to subscribe.
Adoki Kennels one of the biggest things people don't seem to understand, hehe. I was guilty of this for YEARS. Then, one day, I realized: hell, I can go all the way into the city and back, but if the dog won't stay for the duration of that, then what the hell am I REALLY teaching this pup-pup!? lol
So you use an already trained dog , Don't get it. What is the point of the table? You say old cowboy ways, um I Live in the west never seen a horse or dog on a table. I'm so sorry, teaching a trained dog makes no sense.

Top sensible practical advice
Beautiful animal. Good info. Tnk you
Hey Stonnie, you look 20 years younger in that video 😂🤣
How long would you rep the treats....and would you say stay at the start or every time you give a treat?

Why I can't find the name of Doberman in the list of the best sniffing dog breeds?!
Very good demonstration. But stonnie can a 1 1/2 year old dog like a malinois can still be trained? Thank you.

stonnie thanx for the videos which would you work on first with a brand new pup as far as sit and stay
You have a little side of shia labeouf. ^^

Question Mr Dennis can you tell me what treat are you using while training whats the make? Can you suggest a rewarding treat?.
Very straightforward and helpful. My 6 mo. old GSD is doing well with this. Just held 3 mins. in place while I walked in and out of room. How long should I expect him to stay? I am enjoying your videos very much. Thanks!
With young dogs, we do two thirty minute sessions per day to build their attention span and build impulse control.
30 minutes total work? What age do you start stay training?

Great videos sir, thumbs down people are trippin

How high of a table is nessary
You don't need it. If you're being sarcastic, he explains why he has the dog on the table in the video, and tells "Courney" where he should place his dog during this training.
My dog keeps jumping off the table. What do I do?

Cowboys tether their horses on tables?
LOL…if you are trying to troll my channel I suggest you rethink that decision.
I’m going to end up embarrassing you and hurting your feelings.

gotcha, thank you, I am working on this right now!
Why don't you use verbal commands ??
my pup is biting my hand :-(

I'm looking for a Mali to replace my GSD service dog, what are some puppy qualities I might pay attention to?
I would definitely spend some time around the breed. In my opinion, they are usually not super well suited for service dog work...
