Feeding birds dogs cows daily and sometime fish is a tradition in Indian subcontinent.
I feed pigeons and other birds, whoever comes, everyday.
The first roti (indian bread) at lunch and dinner goes to cows and last roti goes to dogs everyday.
So was following his family tradition by giving his first dosa to birds.
Spiritually it is offering food to gods.

It's not just a Tamilian thing it is a Hindu thing. If you see the trail of comments for one of the comments above you can see how people from different parts of India have said that they do the same thing. We set aside the first cooked chapati (also known as roti, a kind of flat unleavened bread) of the meal for the cow and the last chapati of the meal for the dog. These are then fed to the stray cows and dogs living in the area. Some people also set aside rice, sugar etc for birds, squirrels and even ants.

Second thing is british broke the india into two. India got independence in 1947 and after 3 years india in 1950 india became the one nation.
Ancient india was made up of 565 princely states and hence today also we can see the diversity.
British destroyed the india ( gdp share dropped from 27% to just 2% during British era) and tried to destroy indian businesses and culture.

@Optimus Prime dont worry about that, our country has 1.4 billion people. That means every 1 in 6 person on earth is an Indian.
You can look for creeps, and statistically, you will find many because of the sheer population of India. Even if there is 0.001% of them here.
Or you could look for philanthropists, kind, helpful people, and you would still find many of them.
So it is only a matter of with which perspective you want to view India as.
People with a bias will like to view and stereotype India as a perverted population,
As Indians, we should not care about their approval. So dont worry about it.

In South India (Dosa man is not Indian he is Sri Lankan Tamil) it is common to feed the birds first from the food you make in your own kitchen, Cows/goats get fed from animal feed from outside dogs as well get fed meal prepared outside but ones own kitchen it is birds first.

Hahaah).I love flavorful food and his food is like top tier flavor food. His story is so good. Like I love how he feeds the birds. And he’s such a peaceful person as well. I’ve only had his food once but I’d travel to NY just to have it if I had the $. The special is legit. I got it spicy.
