I really appreciate the yarn analysis you did after blocking! is there an easy way to figure out which yarn is good for what project or is that something to get through experience?
Yes, you can definitely learn more about the technical properties of yarn construction, and then you'll know what clues to look for. Of course experience/more swatching is necessary too, since different stitch patterns also impact how the fabric turns out. The more you knit, the more you can learn....
What a great explanation! As someone who crochets only blankets, swatching was not something I really cared about as the final size didn’t really matter (used familiar yarns so was already aware of drape). However, now that I’m learning to knit and wanting to make garments and experiment with new yarns, swatching is really important and I really appreciate this thorough explanation. Video is now saved in my knitting tutorials playlist for future reference 💕
Hi Anushka, hope you're well. Thankyoufor this video/podcast tutorial on making swatches. This is a brilliant idea., one that ive never seen or heard of before.. Thanks again. Happy Knitting. Take care & stay safe. Love Jen xx
Hi Anushka, Thankyou so much for the Heart reply. We can all learn so much from you, in your knitting and crochet. Thankyou so much for everything you do. Lots of love Jen xx
Very interesting video. I have struggled with swatching because I am a loose knitter and often find myself having to go down two or more needle sizes in order to get gauge, which really affects the drape and character of the knitting.
I've only started swatching regularly in the past year, even though I know how important it is. What I struggle with is knitting a swatch in the round by sliding the work and pulling the yarn around back without ruining my tension completely.
Thank you so much. I'm subscribed to your channel and you're my favorite knitting/yarn teacher. :) Your comment at the end on what kind of project this yarn would be suitable for was really interesting to me, as I'm not very experienced yet. I'd love to hear more about this in the future :)
This video is fantastic!! You really sold me on creating swatches with this one. Thank you for taking the time to create these instructions; you can't know how helpful this will be to beginners!!

@@TheCrimsonStitchery I'd love to learn from your experience - just in case you're looking for video suggestions ;))
The way you record the needle size in the swatch is GENIUS. Thank you!
I've never thought it was important to swatch until you've started to go into depth about the importance of it. Thank you!
You're most welcome!
I love the coding system for remembering needle size! Great tip! Thank you. :)

Ah brilliant, thanks Heidi!
Well done . Thanks❤
I knit for so long, but this hack with marking needles size is so, so good and I didn't know abut it before. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!

This is so smart. I used to stick a label paper in the swatch but sometimes it just fall off. Definitely gonna try this.
Yes! I used to do this, but I ALWAYS lost the paper labels. This way you can also tie a label into the YO hole

I’m a new knitter. This was so helpful. 🌼
Glad it was helpful!
love that extra crimson-y outfit in the intro🤗💖❤️♥️
Yes...SO extra... :D
Clever Idea those yarn overs and purls. I use to make 1 knot per every 1mm and 1 loop per 0.5mm in the tail yarn, this is better!! 💜
I used to do that too but I got tangled up!
@@TheCrimsonStitchery next time I will do it on your way...

Should a person buy an extra ball of yarn just for swatching? I feel like you can use up quite a bit of yarn if you have to swatch a few times.
Are u a mind reader?! Cause I was about to search for this and you came through 🤯
Haha perfect!
👍.
