I think everyone agrees that the most badass character is either Olivier or Bradley, but personally I'd still say Hawkeye is the coolest.
And then there's Mustang. Everyone loves him, he's awesome, he's super cool. But...
He isn't named Olivier, Bradley or Hawkeye, so... tough luck.
This whole Hohenheim moment just shows that he is much of a "human" than any of us, but because of his "past", he just couldn't let it go, till Trisha gave him the needed "push" to start doing what he's doing.

Kimblee is 100% my favorite villain. Not only is his personality fantastic but he works as a philosophical challenge to everyone. Questioning all of their ideals and beliefs in such a perfect way. I'm so glad you love him.

The whole "Mustang n Olivier" thing is mostly cause they both want the Fuhrers seat, but each of them want it for slightly different reasons. Or better to say "similar goal, different paths"

From the last episode General Armstrong made it clear that she has no love for Col. Mustang. So yea, that comment perfectly speaks to that.

It's funny you asked about people who actually knew who Edward was at first glance. One of the few people and first we see in FMAB to realize who Ed was at first glance was Scar. As Scar approached the despairing Elric brothers, Scar asked "You boy, you're the full Metal Alchemist?" Moments before going in for the kill.
5:51 the fact that hes crying is what started his character humanization, up to now we see him as a stoic and cold individual and even this very portrait we saw in pervious episodes where his face is obscured we’re led to imagine him with an stoic face or something like the light reflecting his glasses obscuring his eyes to further dehumanize him like we were made to believe but the fact that he was crying the whole time immediately puts him in a different light
13:45 actually his title is the alchemist of steel, in japanese his title is worded as “hagane no renkinjutsushi” which is also the title of the series in japanese too and translate to alchemist of steel but the artist did confirmed that the english choice to localized it as “fullmetal” is more accurate to what she had in mind

Love the scene with Olivier Armstrong this episode. The most impressive part to me is that she killed Raven, a general from Central who technically outranks her, in front of an entire room of people with absolute confidence that no one would breathe a word. Just imagine the amount of loyalty she commands to do something like that. A single word could have the entirety of Central against her, but she knows not a single soldier under her command would betray her. [Also, remember what you said about Raven being brazen with information here - it will come up again later.]
I love how while the series does a great job making you root for Raven to get his comeuppance it makes you completely forget he's the only reason Kimblee hasn't gone all in yet. Then you see Raven get done in, you cheer and bump your fist in the air and then immediately the celebration is cut short because now Kimblee is allowed to do things his way under Bradley's contingency orders. Ishval and a good chunk of Amestrian soldiers didn't like when Kimblee got to do things his way lol

Oooh yeah, this is one of the scenes that truly cements Olivier as one of the best characters, but it's a shame that Raven couldn't tell us any concrete answers before he was gone.

Actually knocks to the back of the head only last a few minutes, and it looks like only their outer coats were taken. Combined with the fact they're Briggs soldiers (i.e., experienced in surviving in this environment) and there's a shelter nearby with a fire in it, it actually would force them to stay in one place after they wake up, and wait for the next patrol to come by and rescue them. Scar's move here ensured high chance of survivability while deterring pursuit.
as it so happens, staying still tends to increase your chances in the cold, and (this is more just optimism, but) i'd imagine not being conscious saves some energy too
Everytime you were suspicious of Ed and Al's dad, I just think "I can't wait until you know more about him!". I have to stop myself from giving out hints that he's not as bad as you though. I think Scar being a bit nicer (or less violent and not just randomly killing soldiers) is probably cause he now knows who exactly he should be taking revenge on. Back then it was just anyone from the Amestris military but now he knows about Envy and the other homonculus. Yes! Olivier is really cool in that scene!

To be fair, killing Raven was planned, hence why Miles was keeping Kimblee distracted. So while I wouldn't be surprised if Buccaneer always carried around spare gloves for her, I'm pretty sure he already knew why she would need them right here.

I think the best description I've ever heard of this episode is "General Armstrong plays Raven like the cheap kazoo he is." The fact that he ends up as the literal foundation, after blathering on about making innocent civilians into foundations for his immortality is just icing on the cake.
Even though I knew how Hohenheim looks in the photo, it hit me really hard when I saw him here and seriously made me tear up. His face, combined with what Trisha was saying, was just too much.
Also, I think Ed could also break out of the cell in some creative way, if he wanted to. But the way I understand it, they don't want to break out - they want to be *let out* because they're not being held by enemies that they want to escape from. They would just prefer to be somewhere else in the fort rather than in the cell, doing nothing. But they have to keep up appearances, so as long as Olivier wants them in a cell, they must stay in the cell.
Olivier may be like "Who cares? I've casually committed war crimes before." but even she draws the line at betrayal and traitors.
For a long time, I thought Hohenheim’s face in the family picture was stern or something along those lines since all we got was Ed’s flashbacks and knowing he was an absent father. But then they reveal that he was actually crying. I was crying with him 🥲 And all along, the look Hohenheim Ed kept thinking back to wasn’t a look of anger or scorn, it was determination. It really changed my perspective on him.
The cliffhangers will become more and more common the closer you start to get to the end of FMAB
Women: All men want one thing and it's disgusting!
Men: No! We actually want 4 things:
1. Have friendship-into-relationship development like Winry and Ed.
2. Be able to understand each other and work together like Riza and Roy.
3. Be as loving and caring for each other as Izumi and Sig.
4. .....Be absolutely dominated in bed by someone like Olivier!
This show has 4 of the best female characters in manga/anime/movie/any media ever! They all are strong in their own right, they are great characters, so well written and loved by everyone! Love this show so much!
In regards to them still being in prison, remember that they "couldn't" tell General Armstrong anything about the homunculi, at which point she correctly inferred that despite her relatively high rank, Ed's refusal to give her information could only mean it was under orders from those above her. This is why she "imprisons" them, and why they play along while Raeven and Kimblee are around -- plausible deniability for herself and the brothers. She "doesn't know" about the plot to use the country for a transmutation circle or anything else aside from what Raeven told her, and they "didn't tell her".
Hohemheim is such a great character. When I watched as a teenager, I didn't quite get the meaning of those scenes.
For a child, the concept of family itself doesn't seem anything too special. I would usually take it for granted as much as we take being alive.
But now I'm older and I understand how much it means to him and why he cried taking that picture. And also what he must have felt when he left.
This is why it's great to rewatch things in different moments in life. And FMA is one of the best shows for that 😁😁

Just another day in the life Major General Olivier "Look at me, I'm the main character now" Mira Armstrong.
God I love her so much, THE coolest woman in anime.
Ed and Al could break out anytime they want, but don't want to deal with the consequences to Winry, them, or their mission.
It's really interesting that the final glare Hoenheim gave the boys was actually a glare of anger and determination about what he had to leave his sons for. However, in Ed's memory it was more like a look of disgust and distain at him and his brother, and that is one of the things that fuels Ed's strong anger at his dad🤔
"What do you mean going the wrong way, it's a one way tunnel".
In the words of southpark "What do you mean we're going the wrong way, there's only one street!" "Yeah, and you're going the wrong way on it".
It wasn't that the horse couldn't lead them back, it's that it was too traumatized and terrified to do so after being chased down by Pride
This is most certainly a great episode. And it only gets better and more epic from here! You're in for a treat and wild ride in the future eps!
Honestly, that perspective reversal in the scene with Hohenheim leaving is one of my favourites. It reminds you that every single story ahs exactly as many sides as people are in it. It would look even different from Trishas Perspective and it seems Al sees it a little different then Ed as well, since he doesn't harbor quite as much animosity for their Dad as Ed does, more feeling abandoned and wishing he'd come back, instead of Ed's outriight rejection.
It also shows the importance of Communication. I know Hohenheim _thought_ he did what was best, but a simple Conversation with his SOns ("Listen, I have to leave to make sure you guys and Mommy are safe, but as soon as I am done, I'll come back, I love you both very much") would have changed _so much_
Selim Bradley actually knew Al from Ed and appropriately called Ed the Fullmetal Alchemist, but the kid is a giant fan of Ed's.
This show doesn't let up and even episodes like this with rising tension are phenominal ^^
The first part of this episode is characterization at its absolute best.
Actually, Scar was the only one who recognized Ed on sight for who he was. Olivier didn't get a chance to be wrong, Ed introduced himself first.

The thing that's crazy about this show is every time you rewatch it, you catch more hints and foreshadowing than you realized were there previous times. When the next intro drops, the one that begins with the boys drawing a circle in the sand, buckle up. Because that's when ALLLLL the lore is spelled out. This was one of the episodes I was most looking forward to, mainly because of the part with Hohenheim at the start. I believe the reveal of how he looked on the family photo is such a great yet underappreciated scene. Pretty much from the very start we've been shown this photo a few times and could only guess how Hohenheim looked in it, and for most of the series up until now most people would likely think he'd have a cold or uninterested look on his face, so to see it was not just not that but he was actually crying makes the scene have such a great impact.
I looove that scene when she kicks Raven’s ass! Your reaction didn’t disappoint 🤣 pretty much all of us reacted like that to it I’m sure. Thanks for an awesome reaction video 💙 It’s a struggle to wait between eps but at the same time it means the fun will go on for longer!
Yup we love Kimley too, he's really got a firm foundation to how he conducts himself. I mean he is a pyschopath in the truest sense, but he has a wierd sense of moral to him even if that moral is quite twisted.

As for the "their so truthful" thing raven and the others know their the most powerful people in amestris so they dont feel the need to lie to the sacrifices (ed and al)/potential recruits (olivier) though they will actively hide the plans from anyone outside of those 2 groups so it's not that their completely open about it to everyone who asks just those who are deigned important enough to be apart of it

Back at it again! Love the opening scene to this episode so much, as well as all that's revealed in it.
- The scene with Bradley and the moth had him addressing a voice he called, Pride, which is the only sin we have yet to officially meet, and the one who gave Sloth the orders to dig.
- The reveal that we never saw Hoenheim's face in the photo because it would've shown him crying and endeared us to him sooner always hits me. They needed us to hate him early on because Ed did, never seeing the love his dad had for him because he didn't see the worry behind closed doors. Ed only remembers the glare his dad gives him as he leaves, not him holding back tears before he has to leave them behind. It's such a good way to ease us into who Hoenheim actually is: a guy who left his family because he was an immortal who wanted to age with his family. Arakawa isn't afraid to let her male characters cry and it hits so much harder because she does.
- The fact that Olivier knows exactly how to play a man like Raven and pulls it off so well only adds to her badassery for me. It's one thing to be abrasive and get things done in a fight, but important fights are also mental battles, and she just plays the lamenting beautiful woman who wants a family before it's too late, SO well!
- Actually, the only one not to make the mistake of thinking Al is the Fullmetal Alchemist was Selim Bradley! He idolizes Ed so much he even knew he hated to be called short when they first met. He greeted Al as "the Fullmetal Alchemists brother".
- When they meant the horse couldn't lead them back, they meant they didn't know if it had wandered a short distance from where Smith was injured, or if the advance team had gotten deep into the tunnels and it had fled from the source. So, they either could potentially have one injured man close to the exit, or a whole party that was in danger and needed a rescue team sent n.
- "It's people like you who make this country what it is," is such a dark line when you consider the country is a means to kill millions of people in a transmutation. It sounds noble and cheesy but with the information we have, we as an audience can tell he's saying, "you're all important because without you living your lives, we can't kill you".
- Spending time with Kimblee is one of my favorite pastimes in this show. His interactions with Miles come first, but his interactions with Ed are incredible too! I'm glad you enjoy him so much.

You totally unlocked a memory for me with that Supernatural reference! I had a friend get into anime by way of the parallels between Supernatural and Fullmetal Alchemist!
When I was in high school this show aired on Sundays at 5pm.
My classmates at the time, including myself, gathered at a restaurant to have an after-party for the festival, but several of us did not show up at the meeting place. The reason was that they were anxious to see the rest of FMAB. (Even though I persevered and went to the after-party…)
That's how intense the cliffhanger of this show is, so I can understand your anger (lol).

The way Raven explains the plan, yes, they would all essentially become immortal in the same way Hoenhime did. The big difference is that Hoenhime wasn't aware of the huge life sacrifice involved, nor was he aware that he was the one becoming immortal until it was too late to do anything about it. He sees himself as a monster, but the more and more you learn about him the more human he truly becomes. The senior staff on the other hand, are power hunger which makes them easy pawns.
I love seeing the boys when they were so little. Reminds me so much of my older two boys at that age.

2:50 ish yep... that's how that woulda worked. 5:35 those are tears of absolute joy.
As I said when he was introduced... while we couldn't see his side paying close attention it was obvious he was a good man who had no idea how to be the man he KNEW his sons needed... now you get to see some of why. Fear/trepidation colored his opinion of himself and prevented him from even trying.
Another reason everyone mistook Al for Ed is because he's called Fullmetal Alchemist after all, not Fullmetal Edchemist lol

You have interesting theories about Hohenheim, once you get to see his whole story I think you’ll be at peace with it 😌. Yes you are right about the picture with his face always been covered.
I think it’s so much as just a breeze conversation between the higher ups in the military and the sacrifices but more of an intimidation tactic. Also, because they are backed up by Father and they get cocky thirsty with power about that immortality shit that Raven spoke of with Olivier.
Also, cliffhangers will get worse by the episode 😅 hang in there.
Using the horse to look for the missing people makes sense. They do not know the tunnel is just a single line unlike the viewers, heck even we don't know if there are branching paths along the way. The tunnel is dark
In 13:35 I think the fuhrer son's Salim Bradley is the one who hasn't mistaken Al as the Fullmetal Alchemist so far
Day 99 of recommending the Beyblade openings.
There are the Japanese ones and the English ones. The English version has one opening for a generation, and that for the 1st and 2nd generation. The 3rd gen has one op for one season. But the Japanese version has multiple ops for a season in any gen. You should definitely check both versions out. I made playlists on my channel, so you don't need to search, cause in those compilations are a few off and not in the correct order. Thanks for checking out!

The rail line from Supernatural was in the form of a Devil's Trap used to keep from opening the Devil's Gate in the middle of the area. As for the rail lines in FMA, I don't THINK they're all that important in Father's plan? I'm not 100% sure though.
I will just put this out there. As you near watching episode 40, either right before or right after, you NEED to go back and re-watch the first Intro sequence of the series. If you want to talk about things being tied together so neatly within a narrative, this series is a masterwork You will understand why after seeing episode 40 but, yeah, so perfect.

kimblee definitely is one of my favorite characters in this series, i bet you'll like this guy to the very last episode

Man, that Hoheheim moment was so sad... you see... we told you, you will understand him better later... you should pay atention to 2 things He said/did... first He considers himself a monster, you're right, He's not 100% human, he considers a monster at a point he feels he doesn't deserve the happiness of to have a family (similar to Dr Knox) but Trisha encourage him, telling him He's not a monster, that He deserves that happiness. 2nd important thing is "I don't get any older, but my sons age and grow before my eyes" guess why?
What was on the tunnel Sloth was diging... lets say it was how the real terror looks like on this anime. You'll understand soon.

WHile Scar was an Ishavalan Monk, The impression I got was that it was more of an eastern Warrior Monk Caste, them what we think of as Monks in Chhristian Terms.
When this was doing its original premiere, my wife was pregnant with our youngest daughter, and Olivier was almost her name for obvious reasons. Very good referencing Supernatural because the concept is very similar, but the intended effect isn't quite the same. Also, you have good taste in your morally gray characters, and I'm not just saying that because "the things I do for love" is my background screen.

Kimble is a very well-rounded villain. He is both threatening and down to the point, whilst also being able to freely think and adapt to any change in plans as needed. He is both a terrible person and an excellently written character. Winry is definitely only there as a hostage, the Briggs automail tech would have updated Ed's arm if ordered to. Though it would've been their design instead of Winry's.

If you want an amazing set of anime openings you should listen to the openings for Iron Blooded Orphans, it has an amazing soundtrack and a dark gritty futuristic story that is both underappreciated and easily one of my favourite anime of all time
Just a warning; you have a few more slow-ish episodes before this show floors the gas and goes full 'Attack on Titan' with one cliffhanger after another. And once that happens, it doesn't let up til the end.

Not that all members of the high command are arrogant and confident. It's just that Raven is, (and Bradley wasn't being arrogant and confident, he has plenty of reasons to act like that) But Raven was despicable and pathetic, and the reason he told Olivia everything is because he had ulterior motives with her and thought she might have a chance (ha! delusional), and well, the approaches towards her are so unbearable that it's satisfying to see how she puts her sword through his arm (in the manga she completely cuts it off). Anyway, Ed and Al are super cute as babies, I love them 🧡.

It's still crazy to me that you consider this an "older anime" because I remember the time it came out 😅 But I guess from your perspective, starting watching anime very recently, it must feel old 😅 I personally consider anime "oldish" only if it came out before year 2000 and "old" if it came out before 1990 (and I started watching anime only around 2010)😆 So I feel so old whenever you point out FMA:B is old, despite the fact I probably am younger then you 😂😂😂
