I think for most Australians it’s a comfort food cause it’s usually given to you very young, when my children were bubs and just starting to eat food, I would often give them a little bit of toast with a thin smear of vegemite on it, so it’s one of their earliest food memories. I think this is quite common here
Hadnt thought of that but yeah. You might be very correct.
Literally I know it’s the wrong way to eat it but I love thick spreads those Americans are just weak btw I’m Australian check my profile
Reckon u might be onto something

I come from the land down under
Where women glow and men plunder
Mum would buy us those Vegemite dip snacks for school; I hated the biscuits so just sucked the Vegemite off the red stick
A true Aussie right here! 😂
I remember those! The biscuits were shit!
Me too!! 😂😂
Yes
@@luMBAgO69420 classic that was my reaction mate LMAO
I’m Italian from Michigan, USA & I go through a jar about every three months. Nobody else I know eats it, but I can’t get enough of it! #vegemite #vegeright
Hi, you are a true vegimiter, 😀
Ata boy!
Proud of you, from an Aussie!
I am brazilian, live in Brazil, and I also like it. In fact I have just eaten some eith buttered toast. Like you, I am the only ine to eat it at home. But I am used to eating brewer's yeast, so maybe that’s why I like it.
Amen. I *loooovvvveee* the stuff.
Only the difficulty in getting it, and then affording it when it shows - as well as now ending to avoid gluten - makes it a rare delicacy!
for those who don't want anything to do with it, just means more for the rest of us!
sounds like someones staching Vegemite for a rainy day.
I am eating it right now
Living your best life 💯
(Vegemite spaghetti in my mouth) "get it right!"
I ate it some minutes ago.
@Dave Tempe yeah so?
@Dave Tempe I'm not shocked at all, Aussies drink more VB
0:41 *oh hello there*
Yay a heart
Yay another one
I grew up in New Zealand (early 80's) and we ate Vegemite, we also ate Marmite.
When moving to Australia it never phased us we thought everyone ate it... Apparently not.
Agree, am from NZ and live in Australia now and grew up eating it, sometimes with thin slices of cheese ontop also.
Yes, Vegemite is very popular in NZ as well
Looks like by the accents that the ones that don't in Australia are foreigners, newly arrived or even tourists.
I've tested Vegemite out on Korean friends (the right way - on toast with butter, not on a spoon) and they say it tastes like soybean paste. So potential win! It's my comfort food, it's all I want when I'm sick or super tired.
Tell them they are honorary Australians! 😜
Oh and yeah, Vegemite is always the solution to any problem!
I have had savory miso spreads that remind me of Vegemite...
Looks can deceive you, I’m in America and omg I put vegemite on all my toast!
The only thing though is that you can only put a LITTLE BIT of vegemite. But it does taste really good
If it's not burning the roof of my mouth, there's not enough on my toast.
I’m Malaysian and was introduced to Marmite from young by my mom so I’ve acquired the taste for salty yeast extract. I imagine I’d go for Vegemite too!
Good on you Hugh for showing people the correct way to eat it - Love it
THEY ARE TELLING YOU RN. THIN. NOT MUCH. JUST A THIN SPREAD. NOT THE WHOLE FUCKING JAR ON ONE SLICE OF TOAST
I love it and the new one is absolutely fabulous.
It’s like saying that “my car gets too hot when I turn on the heater on my adjustable climate control”
Your channel is the best I have ever seen
Love it on toast with butter and poached egg and avocado on the side for the breakfast 😋😋😋
Fresh bread, butter, vegemite & lettuce for lunchtime sangas...yummo! Or on toast, lashings of butter and a goodly portion of Vegemite is a great start to the day 😊
American here! Just bought some vegemite and I love it!!
Woah! You’re now an Australian citizen! 😜 🇦🇺
Blot twist: jay bird might be 1% Australian
It’s great if you smear a tulle in toast and then dip the toast into a soft boiled egg, or put the egg on the toast with vegemite, perfect brekky
I am Indonesian, i eat bread with vegemite almost everyday, love the taste
I’m surprised this only has 20K view. Good video. Well done.
In Germany, they have Vitam-R which is similar in composition and taste.
Its a beautiful delicacy. Butter the toast, spread the vegemite not too thick or thin - there should be marbelling, then take a small nob of butter or margarine on the end of the butter knife and spread that over the middle of the vegemite to seal it over locking in the flavour and toning down the salty bitterness at the same time.
Tried it for the first time today. Tried it with toast. I can eat this for breakfast everyday.
I eat three pieces of bread with it. The first one, didn't enjoy it. The second one, it's getting there. The third one, it's actually good.
Australia and NZ usually like it. Half Italian Half NZ living in Australia. It's awesome, vegemite sandwiches at school, throw some salt and vinegar chips between it
Mum used to pre mix it with butter and then spread it onto our sandwiches for school and sometimes add some lettuce.
Hell yeah we do. Nice thick cut hot toast. Lashings of butter and thick spread of vegemite
Hi. I'm from Poland. In Europe we have something called Maggi. Originally it was made from herbs, but now it's made from yeast extract like your Vegemite, but it comes in liquidised form. It's mainly used as soup seasoning but you can also sprinkle it on bread and spread some butter. I used to eat that as a kid :-)
For us, Maggi is the name of a brand of instant noodles
In india maggi is a brand of noodles
And we love it its As popular as vegimat
Im from the United States. I was curious and bought it on Amazon and it’s super good. It’s very salty, savory, and bitter, but In a good way. The best way i tried it was buttered toast with the the Vegemite spread as thinly as possible. Any more and it’s too salty/overpowering.
Please show this message to Australian customs to be granted immediate citizenship.
That's the ONLY way to eat Vegemite on toast or fresh bread (preferably with cold hard butter.)
I spread it thick
Yes Josh, Vegemite is very special and for me it’s the best ! If you are in Brazil, you can find a very similar yeast extract product with the name of Cenovit ! Give a try and you will be surprise about the excellent taste of Cenovit. And since now vou can easier get a yeast extract in Brazil, São Paulo, you can abuse and use it in your recipes ... beside using it on a buttery toast ! Enjoy the new Cenovit.
One of my boys sometimes eats it with jam. Toast or thick bread, lots of butter, Vegemite, then tops it with strawberry or apricot jam. I just had to try it and apricot jam is best.
I could eat a whole spoon of it right now, me and my mum love a think layer of it on literally anything 😋🤤
I bought it at a world market in my town and have been having it for breakfast on toast a lot lately
After watching this I now have a craving for some on toast. yerm.
I'm danish I tried it and loved it the first time and still do. I actually buy vegemite online because it's difficult to find in stores :)
"chill out it's a spread" 😂😂 so Australian
“Only like it if you were raised with it from a small child.” I had it for the first time at 32 and even as an American I had it spread on relatively thick with a ton of butter toasted and not toasted same day, I love it. Vegemite is mandatory on bread
Your timing dodge was so good
Toasted Vegemite and melted cheese OMG! 2 slices of toast, butter or marg, Vegemite, tasty cheese, grill until cheese melts, then put both slices together and cut in half. Or you can do triple cheese, put another cheese on one toast, stick together, put back in grill or oven, cut in half, should be melted cheese slightly coming out over the line of the black gold.
I'm in the Philippines rn hoping malls sell vegemite 😂 imma try to buy it somewhere cause I like salty food HEHE
So I’m watching vegemite whilst eating vegemite. Dedication at its finest
yes .. I love it!! Goes wicked with lots of butter on toast!
I just had it on toast, it bloody yum if you know how to use it.
I used to have it on a teaspoon and eat it little by little as a kid😅
The answer is “yes”
It puts a rose in every cheek! For those who want the music: musescore.com/user/643986/scores/6025730
When your out roughing in the bush, toast and vegemite and a cup of coffee for breakfast.
Cambodian here, vegemite is good with rice on toast with some MSG on it as well.
"It tastes like salty dog slobber " 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Its like beef bouillion/soy sauce in a spread form. I use it in a beef soup/stew for umami.
Love the stuff
Not Australian but I love alitte on anchor butter .It's the best.PNG love it too.
One reason so many people can't understand its popularity is that they use it wrong. The Australians told me "Ya sposed to spread it THIN, matey! THIN! It's not buttah!" 😂
I love Vegemite and Marmite and I love it right out of the jar.
I love that thing on toast..thick butter, thin vegemite…nomsss!!
Veggiemite will always be linked to men at work video
Marmite is also a Yeast product a great British tradition with toast . Once a Marmite baby always a Marmite baby as we say here in the UK .
I love vegimite, I have it on toast every morning.
Vegemite with some jelly or French toast with Vegemite one of my favorite ❤❤
I love it. Can literally eat it off the spoon.
As an Indian, I tried it two years ago among a bunch of Australian mining engineers, thinking it was a kind of jam..and then ..
Would probably have grown to like it if I stayed longer.
There's only one way to have Vegemite! Either on toast or warm bread spread your butter on then a lil bit of Vegemite then spread a lil more butter on top 😍
I'm from the States and i LOVE it
American here...just tried it....I liked it. I don't know why there was a need to make yeast sludge but with some margarine it wasn't bad like a beefy soy salty tang....
I tried Vegemite for the first time I loved it my family didn’t
Vegemite on Toast (with butter), is the Aussie version of Soy Sauce on Sushi.
As long as you understand what and why you are putting it in your mouth, you're fine.
I mean, it's not like you squirt soy sauce into your mouth either is it.
And taking the Sushi analogy a step further - wasabi on sushi is nice too - in moderation
Vegemite is the goat condiment
All Australians talk with their mouth very wide open I love it!!
Non australian and love it
My school canteen fostered Vegemite appreciation; their hot cheese and Vegemite scrolls. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
I have a lot on toast with heaps of butter, and dipped in a cup of tea,
Plain and simple you have to be a born and bred Aussie to like it, it's as simple as that.
My mom was Australian, she would give me Marmite as a kid. (Vegemite was not as available as Marmite in the 'States back then.) So it actually like a little on my toast.
Cheesymite scrolls taste good to me.
Had a taste of Vegemite today and the best I could describe it is very concentrated soy sauce. Also, the way that dude at 0:33 got turned on by thinking about food made my day.
The way people talk about Vegemite it sounds like they are talking about the caviar I have eaten -- very, very salty but in small amounts I like it.
a friend of mine, puts vegemite on a meat pie
l dun be a aussie but l absolutely LOVE vegemite l buy mine from amazon but before l knew l can get it there l had to settle for marmite and promite l also use it thicky and 1 of my fav sangas be peanut butter and vegemite
I’m german! I’m born, raised and live in Germany and I love it (discovered it this year at 29 years of age) 😂 I eat it every day ! Only bad thing we only got the small jars here
Love Vegem, ite, but it has to go on thin
marmite is sold in singapore
Only when they've run out of lager!
Tastes great on cheese, also !
It’s the mixture of melted butter and vegemite on hot toast that makes this magic.
It's some sort of incredible chemical reaction. 🤓
There is so so many ways to eat vegemite.
Marmite and Cheese sandwiches is the best .
Are You Mad !!! Its a Drop Bear repellent....lol
I love it on toast with a cup of tea. My mother stacks it up until I ask her to stop. When I drink beer, the aftertaste is the same and I savour it.
Iam dutch and i love vegimite
With cheese 🤤
I love Australia love
The people I knew from that part of the world liked it.
Of course, they didn’t stick their finger into the first jar they got their hands on - thanks, Jane! - and taste it straight, *like I did!*
An American, just had some on toast with butter as a late night snack, can’t wait to have some more in the morning.
Try it with avocado or with cheese (grilled). Yum. It's packed full of b vitamins too.
@@shaunmckenzie5509 will give it a go right now!
Explains another about Aussies
My first time hearing what a Vegemite is cause apparently my whole life the mite I’ve heard of is Termites
I am Australian and I hate the stuff. If I do eat it, which is very very rare then the only way is toast, butter and a tiny bit of vegemite.
Uh---- US here ( sadly ) and I'm eating it on toast with avo right now. I LOVE it!
I love cheesymite scrolls 🤤
Fuckn love it on my crumpets for brekky but sometimes if pekish whip up on a slice of bread with butter
I like how they're all like "We fucking love vegemite also it tastes like shit"
Wait... "gluten-free Vegemite"? What is this I don't even-
