    It's great seeing you doing some homesteading, I can only imagine what you'll be able to achieve when your place is done and you have more time.👍

      @leavingbabylonfamily  8 місяців тому +2

      Yeah from now on I will divide my time between building and homesteading, so I can be more self sufficient soon, I don't like relying on supermarkts for my food! So can't wait to start growing some more

      I know that you must be doing a lot more apart from your build, it's just becomes a daily chore and doesn't make it to video. It's nice to see what homesteading projects you do though.👍

    Ordered my sweater and tank top shirt Leaving Babylon merch. Excited!
    These videos are so greatly, wonderfully done. The time you take with the quality of content, showing us this journey, ground up, while filming....wow.... On top of that, artistic touch and felt admiration/Love for your surroundings and experience through your point of perspectives you show with slow motion flames, different stream currents, sunsets, sunrises, rain drops etc. so on so forth. Just outstandingly beautiful. Great job. I feel it through the screen...
    ♡Much Love♡

    Just found your channel man. Really inspiring the life you live. Had it been 15 years ago that could certainly have been me but my life took a different turn. I’m a livestock conservation farmer in Sweden now but a little bit larger scale than what you are doing. Try to put up some videos from my homestead every now and again. Interested to hear what the crop rotation will be in the potatoes patch?
    Crazy you can sow veg in February. Here we’re still battling with snow and ice. 🥶 stay real.

      Your channel looks really interesting! I have subscribed, seems like we have similar interests when it comes down farming, I used to work on a farm in Belgium and was trying to set up a regenerative system there, I worked with animals to, but it wasn't my farm, so at the end I quit because I want to do my own thing...I haven't had the time to look at your videos, but il have a look later... and yeah it's crazy for me to , first year that I am planting veg so early 😁, in Belgium I would plant potatoes in April, so yeah it's a big difference, still need to learn allot, I just look to the old people around here when they plant wath in their garden...

      @@leavingbabylonfamily sounds great man. looking forward to more videos from your end. all i've heard about portugal and spain when it comes to ag is that its becoming increasingly impossible to farm there due to climate change, and especially drought. as one could see in some of your previous videos. so it's really a challenge you've set up for yourself there but i beleive that small scale and to build a farm that stand on many revenue streams is key to tackling these challenges.
      whhat i meant with the potatoes was to hear about your crop rotation since planting the same family of for example solanaceae in the same space year after year is probably someone you want to avoid. we try year 1 - potatoes year 2 - root veg year 3 - fabaceae crops year 4 - Brassicaceae & Cucurbitaceae crops. best of luck to you

    I've also planted Jerusalem Artichokes. It's great seeing the progress you've made!

    What are planning for the material on the roof ? Tiles or currigated metal or something ? That contrast between the rock and the cord wood is absolutely beautiful !! You're home will be nicer than mine when its complete and I spent WAY too much on mine !! GREAT job !!!

      Hey Zachary! Thanks ! So plans are to make a living roof on top of the cabin, so basically just the liner I put up, and then I first will put a thick layer of sheep wool on top, and on top of that soil.

    Woow, so much progres....and almost done!
    Again, my full respect for what you are doing with such a small amount of money. And you know Ruth stout? Do some research about her way of growing food, much less work and same harvest.

    • @leavingbabylonfamily
      @leavingbabylonfamily  8 місяців тому +1

      Heya! Thanks ! 😊 Yes I know Ruth stout. But that's not a option for me here, I don't have that much mulch material right know, I think they usually use bails of straw to grow potatoes in , if I am right ? But straw Is not easy to find around here, and not cheap either, a small bail is at least 4 euro, I would need allot of them, it would make this expensive potatoes. Also this has been pasture for the last few years, so the soil is very compacted at the top, so the only option is to dig it really if want to grow a crop this year... I will start mulching allot allover the garden, so in the years to come digging won't be needed anymore, but that takes time..

    • @truusvdkraats3260
      @truusvdkraats3260 8 місяців тому

      @@leavingbabylonfamily maybe read some more about her, she is Just trowing lots of mulch on the soil so no need for buying a lot of strawbales. A friend of me in Viseu is using het method and collects all the mulch with his skyte/ uuh, always forget the englisch name but in dutch it is zeis, maybe same as in België? So very cheap, no chemicals and you can Just plant the patatoes on top of the soil underneath the mulch, very easy to harvest because almost no digging. Only thing to keep an eye on is mice and moles that live underground and love patatoes, but in or on top of the soil, they will find them anyway;))

      Why you think so? I don't believe so to be honest, I am in South Europe here, and use to live in central Europe, climate is so different here! Winter was been absolutely Lovley! Most days are just beautiful sunny days, it's easily 15°c here during the day, there are some frosty nights... But in the night I'm sleeping like a rock under a warm blanket. My cabin is so small, that burner wil heat it up in 5minutes...
