My first shavett razor that i basically learned with , inexpensive , and great starter razor . Gives a good shave , slim and light . I like it and still use it often , thank you Shave Nation , have a good day !
there´s a trick to check your dominant eye, you look at a target in far distance and form a triangle with thumbs and index fingers with outstretched arms you look with both eyes (through target) then close one eye and the the other one, on one side the target will stay like looking through both eyes, the side it stays in the triangle is your dominant eye ;)
You kind of touched on something with the "I can see better on my left side" comment that keeps me from trying a straight razor. I've been blind in my right eye since about age 5 and even with a D.E. safety razor it takes great effort for me to see the right side of my face while shaving; even with two mirrors. That... and I'm on blood thinners so my wife would think I've gone nuts for trying. 😁 Enjoyed the video, now I need to go shave off my 4 O'clock shadow. William C. central Indiana.
Shibumi is a Japanese word that loosely translates to 'effortless perfection'. Anything that is Shibumi is quiet in refinement, noble and fulfilling in a manner that is not shaped exclusively by analytical thought.
Picked up a Facon kamisori recently and love it. $16 and it came with 100 blades. I'll still use my DE razors when I'm in a hurry, but otherwise I'm reaching for the kamisori.
Great shave Geo. I have mine still in the box. Just needed a little info on a shave technique with this one. Thanks !! Have a great day and smooth shaves
Here is a comparative observation: You wondering out loud for us if that plastic handle would be too slippery including with wet fingers. The plastic bags for fruits and veg's in the grocery stores are too slippery to open until you get a small amount of moisture on some fingers and then the added wetness allows the fingers to grip the bag opening sheets to easily open the bag. Maybe the same thing happens with that razor's handle.
What to not love in this video? Seeing my patriot geofatboy handling this beast like a champ and simultaneously giving advice on how to perform a smooth shave with the Shibumi. It seems easy but it's not. The finish with the proraso green aftershave lotion, my very first lotion while starting WS before 4 years and my all time favorite. Macho summer barbershop scent the other favorite macho winter barbershop scent is the floid genuine. Also love the proraso sandalwood. Thanks 🙏
Thanks for this review Geo! I enjoy the education you provide in your videos and the style. I wanted to try getting into kamisori style shavettes with low investment and this seems to fit the bill. Will be going through the old vids now and hopefully catch up one day 😂
I have this exact razor. It’s comfortable to hold, handle and maneuver. But the blade insertion is a pain to be honest. It is very lightweight and while that’s good for fatigue, it loses some power and does struggle to go through heavy growth even using a Feather. Especially for its price it is a nice item to have and a overall capable razor for general use with some drawbacks.
Ordered a Sabumi the other day and tried it for the first time. I felt it to be too light, longer than it needs to be and didn't like that the blade didn't come even with the end. Blade exposure also seems to be a bit much. You should try the kamisori from Facon. It has a nice rubber grip and blade exposure is not so aggressive. It's a bit heavier than the Shibumi or at least it feels that way and I wish it were a bit more. Would like to find one like it made of stainless. The one Feather makes looks nice but I'm not interested in anything with a proprietary blade.
@@geofatboy Good morning. I kept watching videos on this razor and got it from somewhere else half awake caused by noisy neighbors. I’ll order some blades to make up for it.
渋み😂 It sounds like the expression word for Japanese green tea. But I think this "SHIBUMI"would be used for professional technique like for a veteran. Stretching skin is the key when we use a Kamisori. And flat surface will lead your shaving smoother, I bet as a barber💈 Beautiful shaving, Geo👍👏
Shibui (渋い) (adjective), shibumi (渋み) (noun), or shibusa (渋さ) (noun)are Japanese words which refer to a particular aesthetic of simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty. Man ive tried everything to keep from getting ingrown hairs and razor burn but i just cant get away from it. I feel like a kid using a gilette one blade but its the only thing that gets a close shave and doesnt hurt me later. Straight razors look super satisfying but i think it will just do the same thing.
Same issue but I’ve found sharp blade mild razor and no more than 2 passes in my ingrown hair prone areas (chin/jaw line) keeps it smooth. Don’t stretch the skin in those areas. Consider something like a aftershave splash as well. It keeps the follicle open a little longer and has worked wonders for preventing on grown hairs for me. I feel for you, I think if you do anything it should be the aftershave splash because it has a lil alcohol in it and will keep that follicle open and clean a lil longer than normal which would allow the hair to grow out before.
I sold mine (and bought a Bluebeard's Revenge one) just after a couple of shaves for less than half the price I bought it and then the guy I sold it to, sold it again almost immediately!!!!! 😂 It's a good tool: good quality, extremely easy to use even for your first one (as it was mine too). Way easier than a shavette that folds etc. BUT the way you load the half blade needs to be redesigned for real! It's so unnecessarily difficult, dare I say an accident waiting to happen!!!! Maybe it was just mine but the tabs were way too tight.
Yep, can support that statement with my TGS Abysos. Same loading mechanic but the tolerance are really questionable, need to adjust alignment with the razor blade box.
While I have no idea what the Kanji says on the Shibumi shavette, I wouldn't be surprised if it says The Goodfellas Smile. Kanji characters are very complex, and sometimes a single character can convey more information than you realize.
Nice! Good job there Geo🪒💈 I have a hard time with the XTG pass, the other two passes are fine. Of course using a paint scraping blade glued to a pop-sickle stick could have something to do with it....
Geo,great video as always. I came across a video talking about how hanging a brush upside down (proper way) does NOT allow for proper evaporation of water and that the bristles will not properly dry with the bristles hanging down. The point of hanging is to maintain the knot integrity. Might be a good video idea..just to hit on the importance of this. Even if you Google "why Not to hang a shave brush Upside down" you will see the same spill on how evaporation goes Up and not down and how hanging a brush on a stand will not allow the remaining water to evaporate off and that the brush will not fully dry. I just got a Simpsons T3 from Shave Nation, love the brush and I'm not about to ruin the knot. Lol..This idea about proper evaporation is quite funny in my opinion. It's like saying that if we wash our Hair and then hang from our ankles...that our hair will not dry. LoL
Used your videos to learn how to shave with a straight razor years ago. I still do it to this day. Just wanted to pop in and say thanks!
same here Thats why am greatful so much
Thanks so much for stopping by. I actually remember your thumbnail pic from back in the day.
Thanks!

4:48 Geo mastered his "Ninja style Clear the Runways" technique so well that he doesn't even make a sound anymore.
I love that sound. Geo was scraping some burnt toast in this one.
I think the reason why you can see better from your left side is because you may possibly be right-eye dominant. Excellent video, as always.

I will this Saturday
Absolutely goated my man! Had trouble figuring out how to put in the blade😂 Thanks!

I always strop my razor blades along my arm hair and it keeps the blade sharp for a very long time. I do it out of habit before and after every shave.
Interesting...

Very nice shave !!!!!
I like the look of this thing, but I have read on Amazon that it rusts easy. Is this true?

I’ve read online it can start rusting? Is that true? I think about soaking it in oil.

Ow yeah this is exactly what I wanted out of shaving. The perfect mix of old and new technology.

No swoshing sound when you cleared the runways?!

Hey Geo, great video as always, I have a question, what is the product you use after every shave to seal your skin? Thank you
The Shave Nation Wide Stick Alum Block
@@pappapiccolino9572 Thank you!
You always use 3--4 times more cream the I do.. Why waste so much? There is loads always left in the bowl.
he must have tons of KG of soap to use.
I love this razor and use it quite often. As always, great shave man!
Geo, you committed a shibubu by forgetting the sound effects while clearing the runways. I always look forward to that on your videos.
Any shaving techniques you’re still “working up to?”

Oh, and Shibumi (which is what is written on it, I suppose, like you 😂 ) is the Japanese word for "astringency", that's what Google says anyway 😛
Yep, can support that statement with my TGS Abysos. Same loading mechanic but the tolerance are really questionable, need to adjust alignment with the razor blade box.
The Japanese text does say Shibumi. 渋 is "Shibu" and み is "Mi"
Shibumi means "simple elegance ". The Japanese writing on the shavette itself means "sharpness".
While I have no idea what the Kanji says on the Shibumi shavette, I wouldn't be surprised if it says The Goodfellas Smile. Kanji characters are very complex, and sometimes a single character can convey more information than you realize.
Shibumi, Shibumi, the razor's hard to get.
too much moves with blade and high price for Chinese shavette 10x I think a couple dollars on Ali )))) and funny part - shave ))))
Soooo, basically, it's a review of a safety razor?
That's why we come here.
