- ABBA. 50 Years Of "Waterloo". 1974-2024.
Today, we are going to visit a legendary, historic castle, where ABBA was in 1974 for a photo shoot with a difference. ABBA went across the entire palace for an extensive photo session. And we will follow exactly in their footsteps, 50 years later. Because this place feels like time stood still, as if it was just yesterday, when ABBA was there.

This video: a slightly revised version of a recent upload. The scene in the courtyard, starting at 3:22, was corrected. "The well that is there now was rebuilt in the 1980s and you can see Frida is standing on the old covering." Thank you for the information, thelovepigeon. For this, I selected new bits of footage I recorded back then. I tried my best to match the photograph with my available footage. It’s not quite exact, but it’s close to some extent.
Credit to the majority of this video, and similar ABBA location videos, go to Sara Russell, and her book "The ABBA Guide To Stockholm". Her research is invaluable. Thank you!
Thank you to my friend Sam, for giving me the most beautiful music. ua-cam.com/video/lzyTl24T9CA/v-deo.html
Thank you to all of you. I hope you had a very happy 50th Anniversary of ABBA’s "Waterloo"!
How incredible. Last summer I visited that castle coming from centre of Stockholm, by an old steamer. I had no idea about this photo session but I managed to see the Agnetha's house in Ekerö from the boat. Very good memories. Thank you from Barcelona!
I don't know why, but I found this very emotional. I think because I too was young then. I am 2 years younger than Agnetha. I was 22, a time in life where you do not think of endings or how quickly time seems to go by. I know in my heart that what was, was, and what is to come is yet to come. But the fact that our youth vanishes in the wink of any eye, I feel almost empty that our, those of us who lived then, time is now in its final act. The pure joy of seeing ABBA in their youthful days, and remembering mine brings both joy and meloncholy. But I force myself to stop and remember the pure joy ABBA has given all of us, and then I compose myself and sing Waterloo and suddenly I am smiling.
ABBA is a phenomenon that marked the world of music 👏👏👏👏❤️

(I'll say this once again...)...
Benny's playing and the echo of his music warms my heart.Blessed are those hands.
What a beautiful castle it was so beautiful inside and out not many people don't get to see how beautiful Sweden is from other parts of the world and the landscapes are just lovely thankyou Bobby brother for showing how ABBA did the front album cover of waterloo and thankyou for showing us around .
Lovely to watch the video again. The historic setting reminds me of The Visitors. The books, the paintings, and the furniture...
'The Visitors" settings is also another great chapter btw. They had already stepped into a dark and sophisticated more mature chapter but still within a fascinating progress which was also diverse if we compare the glorious beginning to that 'haunting' final concept..Both are monumental.
Great work and wonderful insights into the history of the band we all love. Thank you so much for your passion! 👍👍👍👍
Excellent effort
Gorgeous !!
I enjoyed this presentation beautiful Castle in Sweden I watched it two more times I enjoy it every time I watched it it's so beautiful program and is still the number one in my heart and book

What a beautiful video. The theatre certainly does have an atmosphere even in the film. My first trip to Stockholm is in August and maybe I will take a trip to the castle. Loving to see the village too.

Hello BB, I have to say something about Eurovision 2024. Fortunately, none of the ABBA members gave a short speech there. Since what took place there was one big scandal promoting perversions, it so happens that this is the next Eurovision of this type. I don't intend to watch the next Eurovision Song Contest. For me it's another sick world that ABBA doesn't belong to and it's good that none of the band members said anything there because it's not worth supporting this type of events.
No, you didn't ''have to say something about Eurovision 2024'' on a relaxing video about a moment in Abba's time, you chose to, and you chose to bring everyone including Abba into your problems with it and your problems with the ''world'', there are plenty of forums for you to dump your personal opinions about society on, or just talk to your family and friends like a normal considerate person.
@@sg-yq8pm You have problems understanding the text. For me it was very good that none of the band members got involved in any speech at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo. Because what some of the participants of Eurovision 2024 presented was one big scandal.
1974 seems like yesterday. I had a friend from Sweden who was a foreign exchange student at my high school in Portland Oregon. He told me the song Waterloo had been a hit two years prior in Sweden before it hit the American airwaves.
Dankeschön , das war sehr, sehr schön.🌹
Wow! What a beautiful video! I'm impressed of your research. So nice to learn about this, did not know. I live 50km from Mariefred. Hejdå
❤❤❤❤❤
💯👏
L'évolution du groupe montre qu'il n'a pas usurpé sa place au château,c'était prémonitoire.
Merci B.B.🙏🙏
I was in Mariefred in June 2009.
OK, I get it!
One of the BEST videos about ABBA and best productions from the heart of BB. Worth a second.....or 40th listen! :)
Do you get it now? 😀 (and also, see newly pinned comment). Well, we just have to give this a second chance, and voila. 💙 Thanks, John!

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a clear answer as to why the original cover photo is so fuzzy and under exposed. Was it some type of artistic statement?
I'm not quite fond of the cover shot of the 'Waterloo" album but i love the photo session they did and if i had to choose then i would deffinetly go for the ones in the stairs or the one with them sitting by the window.I love them. They look like heroes from a royal fairytale.
Carl Magnus Palm discusses the "fuzzy photo" technique used for the Waterloo album cover in his recent book "ABBA on Record". IIRC he suggests that it was a deliberate choice used by photographers in the early 1970s.
@@johnlonghurst9327 Good to know this.I was also wondering.Thanx for the info.! Now that you've said it i do recall some photo covers of old early/mid '70s albums with such kind of techique but can't name them since i was too little to have kept in my mind more precise infos.I just have it as a 'past icon' in my memories.
