Hi Mark. I have non safety bead 4 1/2" rims on my Estate. Would like the ones with the safety beads but only have one odd one of those going spare. Not sure if that has a tube. Must check the valve. That is now on the car at the rear after I had a puncture. I have tubes all round. Large hole is to suit the tubes. Question is, if I use the large TR415 valves is it OK to go tubeless? Rims with the safety bead would be best of course. Interestingly Volvo didn't change the part number #670451 when the changed to safety bead. maybe even the later ones with small valve holes are the same number? Comment you could have made is that the wheel nuts can muller the tapered holes in the wheels so bad that they are scrap. Good to see you posting again. Might see you at Sywell. I'm looking for a good dynamo. Yes I have seen your video about alternator conversion! My late B18 block does have the mounting holes and there is a bracket on it. I also have a Denso alternator so I'm sure you will say go for it. My Estate (see my uploads), which you have seen at Sywell, currently not charging. Comments welcome.

Hi! Sywell was a bust for me. Intended to bring the shiny car but didn't fancy the rain. Plan B was the usual scruffy Pirate from Penzance but I did the clutch slave seals and felt I had to fix some weakened old repairs and rust in the front chassis legs that I discovered. This turned out to be a bigger job and I ran out of time. Did consider bringing the 144S but it was well into the afternoon by then. Crazy busy first week back at work didn't help.
Regarding wheels I thought all could be tubed or tubeless (except very early rivetted B16s presumably). With the early wheels I use ferules (hard to find - one seller on ebay?) and the smaller hole type wheels should be fine without (can't remember needing to put a tube in a late-late wheel, however).
You're dead right about the enlarged stud holes, I've lost a couple of decent wheels that way! I think I should do a further video warning about correct torques, although personally I do mine up such that I can undo them again with a typical length wrench. Overtightening is the big no-no. I now wonder if a 1/2" cup washer like those on some alloy wheels could be used.
Alternator - absolutely yes if you have the mountings already. Ebay has the occasional recon original (Bosch preferably) and new control boxes. I've used two of the self contained after-market units from Brookhouse without any issues. Never had a Denso but the Americans like them.
I do have several dynamos but in unknown condition.
      Hope to meet again soon!

@@volvorama2369 Thanks Mark. I'm going to get a couple of sets of the large valves off the bay. One set from the Daimler&Lancaster club spares. I've got a set that I got from Northants Tyres ages ago but can't find them! For a bit of interest I might post a sort of poll on the VOC forum to see who is and who isn't using tubes on their cars. If you have a bare wheel with the big hole handy the diameter is reckoned to be 15.7 mm. Odd size that might actually be 5/8". TR415 type valve. I have a set of solid wheels I can check and they might be the same size hole.
I'll see how things go with the Alternator. There is a A7T03277 (Yale Fork Lift) for about £100 that has 2 mounts and fits straight into the dynamo bracket. I took some pics of one on an 1800. Clears the steering box OK. Has built in regulator.
      Thanks for the reply.
