Used the 122S estate to take a load of very shiny tools to help with an 1800S that has been dry-stored for many years. New front brakes now on and engine running on its own fuel tank with no leaks - did have to change the fuel pump though.

Basic introduction to wheel alignment. I've shied away from this over the years but with the appropriate tools it's not difficult. Toe-in is easy to do (just turning the tie rod) but caster and camber requires loosening the upper wishbone bolts and adding or removing shims. Replaced the broken casing and the reconditioned alternator now spins freely!

Found a quick solution to the wobbly alternator. Looking at another reconditioned SEV Motorola alternator that has suffered a broken lower casing.

OK so it did wobble quite a bit on the bracket I made. There are several options to reduce this: 1. Add some stiffening to it especially where it bolts to the timing cover 2. Make a similar bracket in thicker steel. I started here with 2mm thick so maybe I need 3mm or 4mm, perhaps with it in two parts welded together instead of one part with a 90 degree bend 3. Found out that the short circuit was nothing to do with the alternator. the overdrive relay has a loose casing and I had disturbed this and it touched the live terminal inside. Easy fix.

Both of the Amazons that I'm bringing back to life are now starting, running and able to move under their own power. Best news is that the transmission including the overdrive seem to be in very good working order on the 1965 car. This still needs a charging system as well as brakes.

Volvo Amazon 122S now starts and runs after issues with carbs, fuel pump, distributor and coil. Amazon coils are expensive to replace as they are in unit with the ignition switch. Here's a way of fitting a new coil in place of the old one without disturbing the switch.
