Bette was attractive in so many color photos I've seen of her during the 30s and 40s,yet she only made one technicolor film at WBs in Elizabeth and Essix in '39. I read that Marlene idolized Bette,especially during the war years at the Hollywood Canteen. Bette was the actress and Marlene was the glamour girl. Don't know why they compared these two.

There is a lot of talk about looks, and personally i think Davis with her big eyes ans short stature was actually the finest by far. I have just seen a few clips here and there and what i can see, she did have talent. Not my type of movies but still.

Bette Davis was never considered a beauty, although she looked great in several of her films, and Marlene Dietrich is considered one of the greatest beauties to ever be on the screen. I think Marlene wasn't as talented an actress as Bette, but she was no slouch. Not to mention she keep her looks for an exceptionally long time in her life. There are pix of Marlene in her 50s you'd think she was in her thirties! Nice video!
Marlene could surely act but except for blue angel and some other movies ,she hardly got the chance because of her beauty she was trained in Berlin by Max Reinhardt at his Drama School who later trained Maria her daughter in later yrs who was moved to the states . awarded actresses sriffeld in her presence because of her acting beauty and experience ( quote by Alfred Hitchcock )
I do not think they should compare Bette Davis with Marlene Dietrich; They were very different...Bette was not besutiful and glamorous, Marlene was; Bette could be lovely but she was not beautiful; Bette's brand was to open her eyes, Marlene's mark was to squint; Bette was an acomplished and award-wining actress, a great actress; Marlene Was an exquisite actress but they hired her as fatal singer woman where there was no show but proved her worth in "Destry ride again", "Foreign Affair" and other films but mainly in "Witnes for the Prosecution". In thes last film Marlene deserved the Oscar; if you have not seen this movie, do not reaf the summary or let them tell you.
