- European Union Commission Vice President, Josep Borrell says they are not asking Africa to choose sides in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Borrell who is also the EU's top diplomat was hosted by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Dr Naledi Pandor in Pretoria earlier this week.

I think you forget an important piece of history. Have you ever asked yourself why the PEOPLE of certain ex soviet European countries are anti Russian? Russia came in by force and made them part of the USSR. They wanted to make people be like Russians as soon as possible. No more native languages, they destroyed books that weren't in Russian language and imprisoned people that weren't speaking Russian. People were being killed for smuggling books in their native tongue. They had to fight for their independence. So yes they do want to be part of NATO because they stand no chance alone against a much larger country that's constantly playing wolf in sheep's clothing.

They had been clear steps for Ukraine adhesion...and Russia could not wait for a full membership of Ukraine to NATO...Also people were being killed...massive killings of ethnic civilian population by military means...signs of genocide, and violations of human rights...this is a legal issue under UN Charter, and a motive for "responsibility to protect". Thses are moral, legal and geopolitical reasons why Russia got into east Ukraine: massive violations of human rights and international law , and existential threat to the security of a whole country and it's huge population of 150 million people.
