Question: How come everyone sees the ending as "Apple Bloom almost got herself killed," but not as "Apple Bloom made it through a dangerous situation"? She was holding her own against the Chimera, after all.
Realistic fears of a kid getting themselves killed, probably. It’s hard to recognize the merits of a situation when dealing with much more disastrous effects at the same time. To borrow an example from my psychology class, “you don’t remember the car crashes you’ve avoided, just the ones you’ve been in.”
I was actually impressed how upon being left home alone, Applebloom did her chores first. Even if she rushed a bit, she did take care of her obligations first. I never would have done that as a kid. Still don't now, actually.
"is it me, or are the fillies better communicators than the mares and the stallions?" actually, no, that is a proven fact. and not just in mlp, but also in real life. children haven't mastered the "social fake" and they will say whats on their mind when they think it. sort of like, "grandpa, why are you so wrinkled?" "grandma, when are you going to die?" those kinds of questions can only come out of the mouth of a child. if i were to ask those questions, i would be seen as an ***hole. if a child asks it, they are seen as naïve and are humored. its something called: out of the mouth of babes comes truth and wisdom. its an idiom that you say "when a small child says something that surprises you because it shows an adult's wisdom and understanding of a situation."
Your'e not making much sense. What are you saying "no" to? I think you are saying that the fillies are better at communication most of the mares. Right?
Well, I disagree partially with what you said. Yes, young children will say truth. But not wisdom. They don't understand the situations. They only say what comes to mind.
"This is taking a believable character flaw and overplaying it". Thank you for not using the word "flanderization", I've heard that word too many times among the Brony analyzers. And pony versions of "The Princess Bride"? Very nice.
3:30 - I just gotta add to your list of things already shown in the episodes: In "It Ain't Easy Being Breezies" Applejack describes the fairy-like creatures by saying they're "as beautiful as Applebloom on the day she was born." To me, that shows a pretty deep level of love on her part. As an eleven-year-older sister to MY sister, I'd say that's... Well, accurate. But I do agree it got a little out of hand. :)
Okay, let's look at this from where Applebloom stood: For all she knew, this was a simple pie delivery. How, I ask thee, is she supposed to know that her journey would make her trek through HELLSWAMP and fight a Zelda boss to deliver some PIES, ESPECIALLY when Applejack didn't even equip all the stuff she mentioned when she was the one going to deliver the PIE? And this is why she's rewarded. Yes, it's a reckless risk of her life, but SHE doesn't know! The map sure as hell didn't say anything about a freaking HELLSWAMP with a Chimera!
6:32 This actually makes sense. Herbivores are more aggressive than carnivores because they have the energy to be. A carnivore must spend a lot of its energy hunting, so that leaves only just enough energy for other activities. You ever wonder why cats sleep so much? That’s why.
It'd be interesting to go through the entire series and review each episode as either "unforgettable", "memorable", "hazy", "remember only one thing", "forgettable", and "forgotten".
@@keshiaanders6452 Unfortunately for her; along with Fluttershy, Marble Pie, Cheerilee, and every other mare who's been shipped with him, the only mare who got Big Mac in the end was Sugar Belle. I honestly knew that pair was gonna be canon since they do bear a striking resemblance to Bright Mac and Pear Butter. (One of the big differences is that Sugar Belle's a unicorn than an earth pony)
I'm surprised there isn't more fan art about Applejack and her leather boots Also, how come she needed leather boots to begin with? I never thought I'd have to think about fan service in a show like this
I had not thought of that. I can guess why folks would draw Applejack in high leather boots, but I don't hang out on those forums myself. Moving on now...
My headcanon is that AJ is actually Apple Bloom's mother and Granny Smith is Apple Bloom's great grandmother. My evidence is AJ's freak out reminds me of my mom's freak out the first time I was left home alone. It is kicked to 12 and my mom's freak out was at 6 or 8, but that's all I got.
In my opinion, what would have made this episode better is if Apple Bloom had actually befriended the chimera. Then, when Applejack came running in with all her combat gear to fight it only to find Apple Bloom and the creature shooting the breeze and braiding each other's hair (or something to that effect), it would have made the revelation that Apple Bloom can take care of herself that much more powerful in not only was she able to keep her wits about her in the face of such danger, but actually use the whole overbearing sister thing, something the Chimera had been constantly setting up, to her favor in finding a common ground both her and the Chimera could understand and relate to each other about.
Well... I was expecting something else in that episode... Like CMC causing problems on the farm and they must to deal with them before AJ and Big Mac will come back... Overprotective AJ was so annoying to see. She never had watching her sister when she was hanging with her friends in the tree house while she was working on the other side of the farm, and now this, because she's leaving? Oh wow... But the chimera was the bright side of the episode :P
They couldn't airmail the pies, because that would probably mean entrusting them to Derpy Hooves'... hooves. In comparison, the chimera-infested hell valley is a much safer option.
Princess bride reference. Just one of the many reasons why you are my favorite, and only mlp reviewer that I am subscribed to. Keep up the awesome job.

Another excellent review Silver! You seemed more critical and harsh with this one, but as with my favorite reviewers like Antony C, your humor balances it out so that it never feels very serious or confrontational and like it's all in good fun, so it never bugs me a lot like I've noticed many reviewers can when they're overly critical. I also thought it was nice to just know you don't like every episode, since we're all human like that. Great interesting points you made too, fantastic humor, and yeah, so happy to see you so far into the season still doing these, they're a real treat. ^^
Ah, I love how Silver jokes about how big Mac is off enjoying female company... and later on we learn that yes, he has been using his deliveries to go see a certain mare! xD
@8:10 I was expecting Big Mac to say something like: "I don't always eat apple pie, but when I do I prefer Apple Acres. Stay hungry my friends." Anybody else? By the way, loved the Princess Bride reference.
In regards to Applejack's parents, I personally think Hasbro should make their death canon. When it comes to the subject of death in kid shows, I feel it is wrong to ignore or pretend that death doesn't exist. There are many children who lost or grew up without parents, and they can easily relate to Apple Family and learn how to cope with tragic losses. So far, the Apples show us that the family remains strong even if they aren't all together. I wouldn't mind an Applejack episode where an Everfree monster from Applejack's past shows up and she starts acting like Ahab from 'Moby Dick' to go after it for revenge, only to learn that taking revenge will not change the past and that tragedy hasn't weakened her, but made her stronger.

Oh my sweet Celestia! The Wesley and Buttercup ponies made my life!!!!! ^_^ Also, I'm glad not the only one who got the possible reference/inspiration. Literally the first words out of my mouth when I saw that scene were "Oh hai Fire swamp" followed by me quoting the entire scene to myself. Yes, I know the whole movie by heart. What of it??!?!??!?

Sorry, that one I made myself using Illustartor's "Image trace" feature. It's actually pretty awful. Any vector artist would look at it and give me a smack upside the head.
***** I'm sorry about where I placed it, but for some reason very few comments of mine, especially ones with more than 5 words so I had no choice but to comment on this thread, I also apologised for it In my original comment.
8:00 - 8:17 You're doing God's work here Silver Quill. I want you to know that and I want you to promise me that you'll never let them tell you otherwise.
Look, I know this video is almost 4 years old (as well as the reference I'm about to make), but- 3:55 It's cavalry. "It's time to call in the _cavalry."_ Calvary is the hill where they crucified Jesus. Surprisingly, I WASN'T expecting a freaking hill to sprout hooves and rush over there to help her out.
So Scott Sonneborn used to write for "Beavis & Butthead". Biggest surprise I'll get all day; possibly the whole week. You really shouldn't be surprised at the goat head's viciousness. Herbivores can be quite territorial. Take rabbits for example. They kick opponents so violently they break their own backs. And males will go as far as to castrate their rivals. Then there's kangaroos. Their method of defense is to hold down predators and kick them in the belly until the skin tears open. So yeah, Bambi would kill you if he gets the chance.
I really enjoy the different music for your videos. Many reviewers use stuff that's fan-based or the songs from the either the episode. It's nice to see there are other possible musics that the reviewers like other then MLP songs and can put them into their reviews really accurately. Not to mention it's not the music that's constantly played on the radio or popular music videos. I know that isn't really about the episode, but I want to show my appreciation on doing things a little differently. About the episode though. I find that the ending was wrong in a sense when it comes to learning something. Apple Bloom endangered her life, just to prove a point? She heard in the beginning that it was a dangerous journey both Big Mac and Apple Jack were possibly going through. So much so, they all agreed it'd be safer for her to be home alone than going with them. (At least that's how I interpreted it) Yes, the pies needed delivering, and AppleJack was over the top, but that was suppose to be more funny than anything. In my mind, teaching children that you have to prove yourself in a dangerous aspect isn't something I'd want to see in a show like MLP that I show little ones I watch as a babysitter. The episode was good, just not the moral behind it. Yes, AppleJack saw the error of her ways, but only after she pushed AppleBloom to the point to acting reckless, which would've killed her. But sense it's a childrens show, they wouldn't allow that to happen. To leave it off on a good note, I do love the idea of the youngest child finally getting responsibility. When I was younger, I personally was an only child and had a lot of responsibility from an early age so I never had that type of excitement. So, seeing that a person with older siblings finally being left alone for the first time is an extremely believable concept! I love that. And I love how they show that though they all agreed, they were worried about AppleBloom's first time being alone. AppleJack's over reaction and wanting to write down every detail/every step made me think "Oh God... Not this again" (because I've seen many episodes from other series like that) but other than that, I knew it was for a laugh for the fandom and brushed it off. Just my opinion. Feel free to tell me what you think. I'm interested to know more on your opinions. ^^ I'm not great at making videos, but I'm thinking about Blogging about the episodes. I might start from number one. (Even if it's late, I'd like to give an opinion on every single one of them I can. It won't always be negative. I love many of the episodes and do find good in every one of them. I also find some of it bad.)
Well, this was an odd episode. And yep, the chimera was rather interesting. I actually can believe that Applejack would have an over-protective side. I don't have a younger sibling, but I do imagine feeling like that.
I'm impressed that Apple Bloom got all her chores done. Instead of putting them off until the very last second. It shows that she is growing up
"In the name of testosterone, I accept this head canon!"
Even when I was in a really bad mood, that one managed to get AT LEAST a chuckle out of me
Now I can tell my children who don't exist that I heard a cartoon hippogriff with a baritone say, "In the name of testosterone..."

Where be that Fire swamp background? I've been looking for it everywhere but I can't find it!
Sorry, that one I made myself using Illustartor's "Image trace" feature.
It's actually pretty awful. Any vector artist would look at it and give me a smack upside the head.
MLP-Silver-Quill **whack**
***** I'm sorry about where I placed it, but for some reason very few comments of mine, especially ones with more than 5 words so I had no choice but to comment on this thread, I also apologised for it In my original comment.
That politician joke made me love you more XD
hey silver, what was the song you used called at 00:17?
That's from an MLP promo early on in season 2. You can find it on UA-cam if you do a search for "Equestria Girls promo".
MLP-Silver-Quill oh ok, thank you silver
Ok silver 1 can i call you sil? 2 did you know your cool? and 3 can you have your oc hug the cam to hug me? your amazing!
7:12. Never noticed that AJ apparently had a GREAT cat impersonation.
She was the only one who had problems in that episode where she doesn't get enough sleep.
That's a good thing to think about how are the apples geting in touch with there fiends
The Chimera is a really good representation of the Mississippi DOT..
8:00 - 8:17 You're doing God's work here Silver Quill. I want you to know that and I want you to promise me that you'll never let them tell you otherwise.
Look, I know this video is almost 4 years old (as well as the reference I'm about to make), but-
3:55 It's cavalry. "It's time to call in the _cavalry."_ Calvary is the hill where they crucified Jesus. Surprisingly, I WASN'T expecting a freaking hill to sprout hooves and rush over there to help her out.
That mental image was actually pretty funny!
That rabbit example gave me bad memories of "Watership Down."
Tell me about it.
Michael Velez I would've loved that movie if Angel was in it
Michael Velez I love that movie!!!!
... though I'll admit... It was nightmare fuel when I was 5... :P
(Cough) worst writer in the series.
I freaking love the princess bride joke
Well, this was an odd episode. And yep, the chimera was rather interesting.
I actually can believe that Applejack would have an over-protective side. I don't have a younger sibling, but I do imagine feeling like that.
The Chimera in this is awesome
5:35 I Do As Well , It Happens To Be One My Of My Favorites
The ponies stay in contact with Derpy mail of course.
Just put the letter and a muffin on the window board.
The Isle of Beautiful Mares is one of the worst misnamed places in Equestria. It's actually more of a peninsula.
dude you are awsome keep referencing the princes bride it's awsome
what if they have messenger pigeons? thats how we used to/still get in touch
has anybody notice when AppleJack and Big Mac left and everypony was saying good bye Big Mac just said "Eeyup" in a way that sounded like bye?
I...I... HOW CAN WE AGREE ON EVERYTHING YOU SAY YOU GORGEOUS BIRDCAT!?
