I race cars, and my current setup pulls a maximum of 2.2g sustained in the highest G corners. Trust me when I say even that is tiring, and hard on your neck. F1 cars do 5g pretty easily, for 2 hours straight. It’s nuts.
Many don't realize how physically demanding motorsports are, especially when you get into the fastest like IndyCar and F1. F1 drivers have to endure up to 6g on average in the corners. That's getting close to what military fighter pilots regularly pull.

On a given level, they're a lot more like what the rich use to show off, and the abuse you suffer when dealing with the blowout of a wreck or low placement is hell. You have to deal with your sponsors always ready to threaten you. It's still not an easy job. My father was a mechanic for a friend who had the money to race. And he was lucky he could foot his own bills. Another racer my dad worked for eventually had a nervous breakdown because even though he was very good, having to beg sponsors for money and cope with the sponsors lording it over him was so hard on him he gave up. Racers aren't what you think. And no, my dad doing that work did not make us rich. Rich people do not get rich by paying for things they could otherwise get for cheap or free.

Can't discredit motorcycle racing, namely MotoGP and road racing, for example the Isle of Man TT! I'd argue the Isle of Man TT is more difficult, more precise and more dangerous than Formula 1 by a country mile. Also, endurance racing and rally raid (such as Dakar) deserve a shout, especially due to the lengthiness of them. Perhaps not always as technical but an endurance race will damn well feel technical when you've barely had any sleep and are going back out for your next few hours on the track.

I have tried explaining this to people and they don't believe me. The forces you are subjected to while turning or stopping in F1 are nuts, and to act like the car just drives itself is nuts. Even getting enough break pressure at the right time is a feat in itself.
