It's just that people like YOU and the uploader, however, need to accept both his past and present characterization. That contributed to his character growth and made him into what he is today, not because he got 'fixed'. There was nothing to fix about him, he just developed how he did for the reasons he did and that's it. Like Vegeta and other characters he's been inspired by from various animes over the years. Honestly it’s rare to see a character like shadow be de flanderized. He really was reduced to a weird cobbled together mess of Vegeta and Sasuke for so many years. He hasn’t been treated this well since his debut game.
It wasn't weird. It was intentional. Shadow was the only one who could eclipse Sonic in his protagonic role. Once Sega said: Sonic has to be the only "cool" here.

I think it’s more a product of when they tried to stop taking themselves seriously at all, they just fundamentally misunderstood who he is and looked at Sasuke in all his clumsy edginess and said “well that’s basically him right?” Everyone else got the same treatment but it hurt Shadow the most because he fundamentally isn’t a character that’s suited to being dumbed down since if you analyze him, he only resembles his trope in looks. Reducing Tails to a nerdy sideman is backtracking, Turning Shadow to a power obsessed arrogant prick is flat out not Shadow.

He considered himself the ultimate life form because that’s what his creators told him he is, not as a measure of self worth like Vegeta. So yea him being a power obsessed nut job fixated on being the ultimate life form flat out doesn’t make sense.
This truly was the year of shadow I hope other characters get their own year like silver or blaze ect but shadow was so popular to get it and made more scene

I'm still wary of Shadow, I think the edgelord is still lurking and he might come out sooner or later. But at least for now Shadow seems fine in the latest years. Movie Shadow and Shadow in games written by Maekawa are the best because they feel genuine and are full of surprises.
