One day I went to the donut shop and the young woman working there was all decked out in 80's attire and it was cool to see, it really brought me back to my childhood and stirred memories.

    You absolutely nailed the looks!
I was born in 1979, so I was a little girl in the 80s. There was definitely fashion for little girls. What I remember was matching sets. Most days I wore a matching skirt & t shirt or shorts & t-shirt. Very sought after was Fido Dido wear, which of course came in loads of matching sets & overalls. Overalls were a thing, neon, leg warmers, in Australia it was cool go wear Dunlop sneakers with no laces, but Reeboks were HUGE. Perms of course, I got my first perm in grade six. I was the first girl in my whole school to get an undercut which was in 1989. Bright makeup, like blue eyshadow was popular. I didn't really have any control over my style, my mum didn't let me pick my own clothes most of the time, but big t shirts over shorts were in & my mum was very happy to buy me those, phew. She was also ok buying me the aerobics gear that was really popular. I had so many neon bike pants to wear with my oversize t-shirt. Think the Pump up the Jam & Ring my Bell videoclips. I had skinny acid wash jeans & I wore to death. They had gold zips at the ankles.

oh my gosh the white Reeboks! When I was a kid every year I would get a new pair of white Reeboks. I remember the high tops I started seeing about 1990 and I didn't care for them so just went with the regular Reeboks. If high tops existed before I guess I never noticed them. but I was just a kid.

A really excellent video. You captured the 80s look perfectly. It is amazing how the different outfits can make you look younger or older. Yes you are correct on how there was a transition from the 70s to the 80s. I have a number of 80s clothes and love to mix and match. Vintage fashions are always fun and to be different. Thank you.

what do you recommend for someone who is plus size? (I wear an 18 in pants so it seems a lot of the pants I can find are at biggest 14s!)

Look everywhere! I always check the women's and men's sections to see what they have. Usually, you can find AMAZING vintage jeans in the men's section over the women's sections. The women's section is usually limited in size and quality in my opinion! Hope this helps!

I graduated hs is 85. College in 89. Blush: With Dynasty being huge, everyone wore their blush almost like a straight line up to accent their cheekbones. When I started to wear blush when I was 13, it was probably Cover Girl. A soft pink blush. When I was a little older, I splurged and got the Clinique blush in the iconic Apple blue packaging. The first look with the absolutely bright print sweater and tights, reminds me of Heather’s the original cult classic movie. I highly suggest you reach for Heather’s for inspiration. Your eyeglasses would’ve been red in the 80s like Sally Jesse Raphael. I had a pair to read the blackboard. High top Reeboks would’ve been red too. White was really saved for regular sneakers. Nike was huge! I remember leather white Nikes with bold colored swooshes. Major status symbol in the very late 70s to early 80s. Your mom is right about the polka dots. Around 83 there was a major 50s influence. Black and white bold bigger polka dot skirts ruled. Saddle shoes were back in. GAP was breaking out big time! I dressed in mostly GAP. Late early 80s were Sasson & Jordache mostly. I had a pair or two. And Gloria Vanderbilt was huge. Unfortunately, skinny tall flat Brooke Shields’s Calvin Klein, “Nothing comes between me & my Calvin’s,” ads were all over the place: commercials, in EVERY woman’s magazine, and billboards. They were a horrible influence on girls growing up. Attempting to “be” remotely like her was impossible for every girl. Honestly, I believe this campaign created eating disorders. Teachers did not have the money to wear fancy print blouses to school. They dressed down. My mom was a businesswoman & these were a staple in her wardrobe. For inspiration on upscale looks for teens check out the ESPRIT catalogues. I had some pieces I was fortunate to buy at the original Filene’s Basement in downtown Boston. I remember buying a pair of bright roomy shorts on sale at Bloomingdale’s. But I never bought anything from the catalogs I drooled over. Benetton sweaters became huge in the late 80s. My straight younger brother borrowed my maroon argyle one. It was women’s but was completely unisex. You couldn’t tell it was for women. Benetton sweaters were made in Italy. Phenomenally made. They were pretty expensive, but if you had a job during hs, a great investment. I had several in the 90s. The heavy ones are built like iron! I just purchased a couple on EBay. I live in NE & it gets cold. I dressed kinda preppy. These clothes are fitted. For the beginning of hs my mom took me shopping @ Hit or Miss & bought me a new wardrobe. I joined swim team fall of my freshman year, and NONE of the blouses fit. I was stronger and broader. The skirts & pants still fit. I was 14 & babysitting was how I made money, my mom had to buy me new clothes on sale, or at Marshalls or Filene’s Basement. Lacoste was huge for preppy clothes. They were a status symbol with a sweater tied around the neck for both boys/M & girls/W.

How do 80s denim jeans sizes translate into modern sizes? Do vintage jeans run small? If I'm a modern 8, should I look for a vintage 10?
Those Reeboks are called Reebok Freestyles and the original low top ones came out in 1982. The high top ones with the straps came out a year or so later. I collect sneakers and did a video on the history of them. :)

We didn’t wear belts over sweaters! It would have been more a white button up shirt under the sweater with the bottom showing!
