+Angelique Craney Not entirely true, Angie. Although he 'stole' some steps from Gregory, as all 'hoofers' do, and they performed together numerous occasions, thereby sharing choreography, Savion wasn't a student of Gregory Hines. I'm his uncle. I'm pretty familiar with that time in his life, up to his maturity. I live in California now, while he still resides in New Jersey. His studio is there, in Newark.
I was so fortunate to see this on Broadway with Savion Glover and company. Slave Ship was performed in such a way that it still brings a full body emotional response when I think about it and listen to the track on the soundtrack. The show was so well done and was such a great education for me as a privileged white man in his early 30's coming from a rural town in the Mountain West. It was one of the first Broadway shows I saw after moving to NYC and to this day holds a very special place in my memory. Savion Glover is a treasure.
I saw this show twice in LA( they were on tour) and I'm still excited to watch it on UA-cam today 2021... If you could only feel the vibe in person. Damn!!!
I can't count the times I've watched this video. The ending routine was brilliant! so much fun to watch. I wish Savion would bring this play back. I saw it a few years ago when it came to NJPAC and it had my attention from beginning to end. I wanted to go back to see it again but I didn't have the money.
Jeffrey Wright was more than just da' voice in 1996. He had won a Tony Award for Angels in America a few years prior & ended up being the only cast member from Angels to reprise his role in the HBO film
OMG!!! Absolutely fantastic & so regret not getting.a chance to see this play!! Gotta see if Savion can bring it to the NJPAC; thank God patrons xan go there to give performance & artist suggestions!!
OMG!! Is that Jeffrey Wright in the red jacket rapping? No way!! 😊 🎶 If so, he's got skills & a serious versatile actor!! Definitely Tony & Oscar material!!! 💘 🎶 🎥 🎭 😍 👨
What will it be like if Savion Glover appears in the Pokemon anime as Marlon, a black character? If so, he would've provided the tap dancing choreography and the voice of Marlon. Plus, if Pokemon took place in the 1970s and 1980s, Marlon could've been one of the eight main black characters alongside Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Randy, Brandon, Le Tang, and Michael.
“I'll tell you, it's a lot easier having three babies playing bring in da noise, bring in da the funk on your bladder”

Savion was taught by the master, Gregory Hines. Now he is the master. I could watch him forever.

Good way to get em to stop.
Better than dropping B-52 bombs!
I saw this show and could barely hear for two weeks. They brought in too much noise, so much that I didn't enjoy it.
