I have been doing polishing on a plastic lap.. I know it not perfect. But it work for me! About the transfer I guess I need to bring it to a milliing machine. My block come from Sri Lanka and so its not perfect now. Will see in future. But I will keep posted!
Hey John! I'm in the process of zero'ing out my cheater. Is there a way to reset the "new zero" to actual zero? I'm cutting on a Graves MK1 but i assume its close to the same idea
Is there anything preventing the cheater from turning? I have old facetron, sat in garage in tub for 20+ years. The pin that you depress to spin quill is not centered but on one side, should it be centered?
There shouldn't be anything preventing it from turning, but they can get caked with swarf or otherwise stuck. So, you may have to carefully fidget with it, use some WD-40 or other lubricant, to get it moving. It should indeed be centered, especially as the first step for the zeroing procedure in the video.
This process is not necessary on the UT. You simply use the alignment bar to zero the index to the lap. It's literally a 30 second process. Hope this helps.
Hey John, thanks for the class....looking forward to more videos!

As usual I love your video so much. I am a watchmaker and always try to do my work close to perfection. Thanks for the advices 😁
Very welcome. Thank you for your kind words.
If you have questions, ask. I may make a video to answer them.

On the Facetron, no. We just mark the cheater dial with a pencil or a fine-point sharpie - so we can move the line later when we re-zero next time.

Hello very good
Can the same process be done on a UT machine?
