I'm originally from Poland living in California and enjoying California sunshine. Had great jobs (Apple Boeing), had great life. But this movie made me realize that I yearn for the times of my youth, when I was living in Warsaw, when life was much simpler, for my friends from University of Warsaw. I hope this movie and the song Two hearts is nominated and gets Oscars. This song made me cry and I do not cry usually.
California Girl It's lovely, what you just said. I swear I feel the same yearning as you do, only I don't quite know what I yearn for or where I must go. Maybe the desert, somewhere unpolluted. But what I do know is I too want simple, I almost felt a sting in my heart when you said simpler times. I felt an uncanny attachment to the period in Pawel's Cold War when I saw it's trailer, it's sad it won't screen where I live not in a million years it won't.
I know how you feel. I am Polish and left the country at 4 years old with my parents and it makes me reminisce so much about that true Polish feeling of a simplistic way of life, I just can't describe it, I know you will understand what I mean but it brings tears to my manly eyes. It also makes me reminisce and ponder about how my parents and grandparents grew up during/post war.. a time where love is so pure and so real when life is simple.. it's such an honor to see this film for me as a Polish man, and its an honor that others around the world get to see it too.
@@AD98. After Pawlikowski got nominated for the best director award by the Academy, this movie is played in quite a few movie theaters in So California. However, American public still prefers Game of Thrones etc to black and white movies in foreign language.
@@CaliforniaGirl-qk5kq I live in Los Angeles and its playing in lots of theaters, went to a sold out screening a few days ago and there was a Q&A afterwards with the lead actor, great film!
California Girl , I am from Bohemia, but with help of subtitles could understand the original language. I also have had a terrific life in USA and California. I also felt pangs for my European youth of theatre, artists and poets. But there is no coming home. But in the movie. This is a masterpiece
I don't speak Polish nor French. I had no subtitles but I just loved it. The gorgeous photography, subtle moments, and magnificent sounds spoke to me. A true masterpiece.
@@TurkElaneE what the fuck are you talking about? Alfonso Cuarón's nomination was the most deserving of the year! He's won all the Awards for best director and he'll win the Oscar too, he did so much better than Pawel
I found myself only twice in my life having to stand up at the end of a film and, not alone, breaking into spontaneous applause. Those were Jackson´s The Return of the King. and Pawlikowski´s Cold War.
Too bad that Cold War was released in the same Year than Roma that is a Masterpiece and the best film of 2018 for many critics all over the world! It has won the Crítics Choice Award and the BAFTA for BEST PICTURE! And it can also get the Oscar for best picture! Roma has won all the awards for best foreign language film
@@theloniousmorphy The film won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language film but he didn't win an Oscar. He was only Nominated once for Best Director for Cold War. So no he didn't win an Oscar yet.
A wonderful film, reminds me of one of the best films ever of Wayda, for example the scene in the ruined church. The Polish have such an extraordinary school of film, many capolavori were made there. It is such subtle, such intense, just suggestions, I was longing for such a film for a long time. I hope we will see more of this film director in the future.
Just watched it, absolutely marvelous. Pawlikowski is one of the best modern directors
A Gentleman if it’s half as good as “Ida” it’s a success
Yes i loved Cold War and very much enjoyed Ida
I love the way Pawel is so frank and matter of fact. Refreshing for a director who's created such a multi-layered, emotional story.

The future will laugh at the Academy for not giving this the best foreign language film award of 2018.
Love Animals-01 I absolutely agree!!!!!
In any year other than this it would have won.
I am sooo happy that part of this movie is in my country Croatia so people around the world could get to know her more

wonderful photography !
❤️ brilliant film, actors, music.Esthetic pleasure.
the most important thing of the film is that the woman remained emotionally and ideologically honest throughout the film unlike her male counterpart.
What? Explain what exactly you are referring to.. ?
Art is obviously subjective and a matter of interpretation. However, I do not see your point. I think you are connecting some dots that do not exist.
As if it wasn't enough that the man is extremely intelligent and a cinematic genius.. He's also wildly attractive. Good God
Absolutely incredible film.
Sensational film.
Brilliant movie! Loved it.
I loved this movie deeply moving
He is so hot tho
Agreed. lol
I will watch it tomorrow. I want it to be released big in my country.
I LIKE him.
Why did you make a sad movie? I can’t take off my head this movie.
Far too much waffle by the interviewer. Just ask the questions, simply!
I did not hit her. I did nooooot.
