Steroids is hell of a drug people. I recently caught wind of Lu Xiaojun and his current DYEL status, which is honestly pretty remarkable. Lu is one of the greatest Olympic weightlifters to ever live: 3 time Olympic champion, 5 time world champion, world record holder, king of the former 77kg weight class and then king of the 81kg class after that.
That all makes this reverse transformation pretty mind blowing, in my opinion. Lu Xiaojun has been training probably his entire life and he's been competing on the international stage for almost 2 decades now, and he has obviously been cycled off all of his gear for a little while now - and perhaps for the first time ever since he has gained wide spread social media recognition? Or perhaps this is something his team does frequently and this is just the first time they have allowed anything like this to be shown publicly.
And for good reason if that's the case! Because it's really suspicious. If you're WADA you kind of have to feel like they're waving a big old middle finger at you right now.
Either way, I'm not making this video to discuss doping protocols in Olympic weightlifting, or drug testing, or fairness in sport, or anything like that. But rather to pontificate on the potential EFFECTIVENESS of anabolic steroids, and the distinctions between natty and enhanced lifters.
Because 2 things really, really jump out at me here after seeing this footage of Lu Xiaojun:
1: those drugs have worked absolute MIRACLES for a lifter like Lu.
2: the amount of strength and muscle loss here in such a rapid time is freaking absurd and nothing short of staggering.
I give my expanded thoughts on both of these things in today's video! If you enjoy this style of video and find the content to be informative then please remember to hit the like button, leave a friendly comment, and subscribe to my channel as well. Keep training hard guys!

Ive noticed that natty traning is slow in both ends. You gain muscle slowly but you also lose it slowly when you stop training. In other words even when you completely stop training it takes a long time to lose all that muscle unless youre in a big calorie deficit.Steroids make you gain muscle fast but you also lose them fast when you stop taking them. That makes natty the obvious choice for me because even if you take a "break" from lifting you will still maintain your gains for a long time.

And some ppl still want/think they need to take steroids.
It's pretty crazy seeing someone you consider to be your idol look so much smaller. I mean, really mediocre. If that's what the best look like off gear, it won't be much better for them. Just look at how much Arnold shrank during his movie days. Not even close to his peak.
There'll never be these crazy fluctuations in physique quality when natural. You'll always be at your peak. And you'll maintain most of your muscle when you're older. You won't have to maintain on TRT forever either.
Idk how being dependent on drugs for the rest of your life could possibly be perceived as a positive form of masculinity. But we have a crap ton of steroid users who are celebrated these days. Couldn't be more superficial...

I went out of my way to cut muscle mass during lockdown to try and beat some old running PRs. It was significantly harder than I thought it would be. Even doing lots of running, doing little to no calisthenics, and - frankly - not eating enough to support the running I was doing. These lads on steroids, no matter what the level or time they've spent lifting, seem to deflate like footballs. It's insane.

I'm still a novice, but you're damn right about natty gains not fleeting. I started off pretty damn weak and built my lifts up for about 9 months. One lift as an example was getting my OHP from 3 sets of 5 reps at 75 lbs to 140 lbs. I just took about 6~7 months off and got back to lifting just last week. First working weight was 125 for 3x5, and this week I'm already back to 135 for 3x5 after all that time off. The base pretty much stayed for a number of months for the other lifts, too, and I should be back to progressing past where I was before on all of them likely on my first session next week. 2 weeks to gain back 9 months of progress made as a natural after almost 7 months off. Really happy that this is the case as I now know that the effort I put in doesn't just go away completely with downtime.

And funny thing is Mike is a roid junkie himself so he would know better than anyone how much peds really help. They really trying to keep the facade of "steroids don't help much" up real hard, it's like a heroin addict saying "it's not that bad for you bro".
I am glad people like Pete Rubish exist though, he is extremely honest about how much peds help and you can even compare his on PED lifts to his now off PED lifts to really get a gauge of how much steroids really help. Pete lost like more than 500lbs from his total and his bodyweight is like only 20lbs less. PEDs are extremely fucking potent and anyone who even remotely suggests "they don't help much" is lying outta their ass.

    • @runhenry

there is no scientific evidence whatsoever on the difference in the rate of loss of muscle mass and strength in the case of natural lifters versus steroid enhanced lifters. I don't get why people and even coaches here acting weird and puzzled over his loss of strength and muscle, as if THAT is the very proof of him using steroid. I stopped training squat for 6 months during covid in 2020 and lost over 15 lbs, and my squat number went down from 325lbs to just 185 when I came back to it. Does that mean I'm on roid? Of course not! lmao. Lu is probably on roid. But your reasoning is just ridiculous

    • @coley0172

@@runhenry I understand where you’re coming from, but compare your 325 to 185 regression to Lu’s 595 to 375 regression (I believe there’s footage of him squatting 375 in one of these recent videos): not only did he lose more on his squat, his squat is at an elite to world class standard (probably world class for his weight) whereas your squat is an intermediate level weight (no offence)
The reality is, yes the fact he didn’t train didn’t help, but the standard from which his strength has fallen to where it is now, especially for his bodyweight, just screams blatant PED use.

@@coley0172 I went down from 325 to 185 in a matter of ONLY 6 months, whereas Lu stopped training for one entire year-----of couse, he is going to experience more drastic strength loss. But even THAT is untrue. Why? Let's do some math here: my strength loss ratio in 6 months is 185/325=60% (which means I retained 60% of my prior peak strength and lost 40% of it), Lu's strength loss ratio in a span of one year is 375/595 = 63 % (which means he retained 63% of prior strength and lost 37% of it) -------WHAT? I ended up losing more strength than he does in a much shorter period of time. Not only did I lose more strength, but I lost much more quickly. By your logic (the more natural the lifter, the more slowly he loses strength in a given amount of time), since I'm a natural lifter (unless you doubt that I am lmao), Lu must even be MORE entitled to be a natural lifter since he lost strength much more slowly in a Double amount of time that I did....Again, nobody is questioning whether he uses PED or lot. I know the steroid gains of 10% is absolute bollox for many trainees ... I do plan on taking some peds one day when the time is right ... I'm 42 now, but I would bet alot of money that with PEDs I could absolutely smash all my PRs and look the best I have ever been at 50 plus years on PEDs... I know guys that are genuine natty freaks but don't respond too well to androgens,I also know those that can't gain naturally for shit yet surpass the natty freaks when "on".
It's a question of how efficiently each individuals receptors assimilate and use the exogenous source of hormones.

What makes this worse is that he's a tested athlete. Meaning, he's limited in what drugs he can take and when he can take them. A limitation that most the other fitness influencers you were mentioning won't have to worry about. This means the disparity between their natural physique and their enhanced physique would be even greater, because they'd be using more ideal drugs and more optimal dosing cycles and periods.
He's also an actual competing athlete, so his incentive to train would be higher than an influencer who doesn't have that consider as well.
So with all this in mind, if _this_ how Lu looks after coming off, imagine how many of them would look if they did. And how much weaker they'd be. It's insane to think about.
