  • How Farmers Deal With Giant Wild Boars Attacking Farms And Crops
American farmers are facing a growing problem. Huge herds of pigs are invading their farms and causing widespread damage. Millions of acres of farmland were destroyed costing farmers billions of dollars. This is how American farmers deal with giant wild boars attacking farms.
In the Midwest, pigs are a big problem for farmers. In 2022, pigs caused an estimated $2.5 billion in damage to crops and livestock in the Midwest. They are so numerous that they are considered an invasive species. These pigs are a cross between a domestic pig and a wild boar, and they can weigh up to 700 pounds. Their destructive power is considered very terrible, every type of crop they see is seriously destroyed.

I've heard two different stories on the subject. One there's a open season all year long 2nd is the Is annual roundup . I couldn't tell you the right story because I'm not from or live in south Florida. There's one thing's people from out state don't know about or don't remember is a small number of non native species was once pets turned Loose or escaped. But biggest thing is when Hurricane Andrew hit south Florida there was a lots of zoo's and people who had permits to keep Poisonous Dangerous Animals that escaped I don't recall them ever saying what that number was and what was recovered. There was one center that had Poisonous snakes from around the world to make the life saving Anti venom that got hit bad . Mind you, many states had limits for decades on feral hogs when feral hogs weren't much of an issue. Laws can be slow to change as well and often don't change until after the problem is out of hand.

No, it does not. The presence of natural predators lets us know that everything is in balance. These situations with the wild hogs is an imbalance. Just like the pythons in the Everglades. Indigenous species of all kinds are disappearing because of the pythons. These feral hogs are no different. They will attack, kill and eat anything, and have few, if any, natural predators. Do some research on the magnitude of invasive species in Australia, then we'll discuss "balance of life in the forest", where invasive species are concerned.

Set up wild pig processing centers and send the meat to China at low prices!

As long as you're taking humane measures, you'll never get rid of this problem. It ill just be an endless cycle. Unless you can somehow make em sterile, but then hunters wouldn't be too happy about that, since they're partly responsible for wanting to keep em around for sport or a quick buck. But hey it is what it is.

    • @-xXsupremacyXx-
      @-xXsupremacyXx- 6 місяців тому

@@art40odd Right, 👍. And I suppose you calling someone else's comment dumb makes you the bright one in the room.
The fact you went straight insult mode, suggests you didn't even bother to process through your head; as to where in the hell I get that idea? But I suppose I should thank you for your wisdom. I'm not suggesting that the hogs are the innocent ones while the hunters are the bad guys in this situation, hell no. However, what I am saying is, that they're part of the problem. Instead of looking at this problem at the surface level, you should consider thinking deeper as to why the problem persists, or a the very least think about it in broader terms. To me this is like having that old, yet endless conversation about the war on drugs.
People often go straight for the obvious reasons and either fail to look beyond those or flat out ignore anything else that might prove as equally significant or more in some cases. For example people say the Cartels have strength in numbers, they have weapons, money, yada yada; but why is that exactly? Hm, when you ask that question, some things become clear, like the fact that, there are people that simply choose to join and defend these cartels for one reason or another, choosing that lifestyle, and yes this doesn't mean there aren't those whom are forced to either.
But that's the obvious, isn't it.
This hog problem is in fact a serious issue, but it's also fueling business for some. In the same way that the Burmese Pythons down in Florida are. And by the way, the...hog and hunter problem thing? Ii saw this in a documentary, so take as you will. In the end...
      It's an endless cycle.
Yet, the only thing that seems to get highlighted is the issue of hogs and their intelligence and their devastating nature. Again, the obvious.
      Truth is.
The current methods employed aren't designed to get rid off the hogs/the issue completely, but rather to lower the numbers instead. Which I am sure they have their reasons why to keep some around, asides from the ones I mentioned already.
However with that in mind, it amounts to a fruitless effort. That is given the nature of how fast and often these creatures produce/multiply.
Otherwise they'll at least, if they haven't already that is, take the same approach their taking with the crack hippos down in Colombia.
Get them sterile and watch the numbers dwindle. It's expensive I know, but so is the damage.
All these rules and regulations in the face of a crisis like this just seems pointless to me. It's all I am really saying, Just my opinion by the way.

Was going to suggest the wild pigs/boars corpse be given to zoos so that the lions/tigers, wolves&bears have something to eat but the zoo might decline due to the corpses being wild&might carry diseases that they can't account for. Might be too expensive to freeze&ship them out to Africa's savannah to feed the wild lions in nature preserves/sanctuaries there. This will save those zoos a lot of money on food costs.

It would run a risk to other wildlife in the area, so it would have to be closely studied and developed.
