For me audience approval is all important , and here you have Smokey Robinson himself really loving Natasha singing his classic, that has to mean it's a great version of the song. .
She's got a good voice but I just don't like her rendition of the song. This is supposed to be kind of a sad song But she tries to make it a happy song of love so it's just kind of defeating the purpose
Wow these comments are terrible! How can you tell someone to sing their own song at a TRIBUTE to another artist? Like really? Just wanting to say something rude? Ppl I swear smh! I still enjoy this performance! She did great! Smokey def seemed to think so and that's all that matters!
What vocal control and power, she did this song her way, really the only way she could have done it. She owned this song this night and it showed and everyone knew it, Awesome.
What a breath of fresh air...How did I not know her?...Natasha, I won't forget that becautiful version of the "Tracks of my tears"...Very difficult to represent motown being white, but Wow! You did it and then some...
I watched this the night it first aired on PBS and like most, I was like...(yawn) then she started wailing and Smokey gave the okay...and we all knew it was gon' be all right. Natasha nailed this song to the dang wall. (Of course, all respect to Smoke for birthing and giving us this one.)
She did an amazing job with this song. For those criticizing her "upbeat" version, it doesn't diminish the song. Listen to the lyrics. It's about the facade and masquerade. Whats being shown vs whats felt. This version strengthens that facade. The original song is about the inside emotion. Natasha's version speaks to the masquerade. Thats my take. LOVE what she did here. The riff at the end (which she slayed) I interpret as her letting the inside emotion out.
She's great. I would love to hear a cover by Joss Stone. Must be nerve racking performing a such a beautiful song in front of the master of it let alone in front of the US President
yeah .... Natasha blows us away ... even this cover song formerly sung by Aretha .... it is the best performance I can imagine .... and so thought the audience ??? as well as Smokey Robinson ? ..... Natashas new album is "Strip Me Away" .... YES !!! I'll go for it .....
I agree! Now that is something special, it's right up there with Smokey's version, but has her own stylish interpretation and Anita has the power to take it effortlessly anywhere and everywhere she wants! I think Natasha was a little overawed by the esteemed presence of so many legends in the audience hence a couple of dips here and there, but it was still a great effort.
Smokey wasn't sure until she sang "So take a gooood look at my face". Then he gave a look of approval. Natasha even got a smile out of grandma. I don't understand her smile and movement at 2:50 though. She looks good and moves well, but it doesn't seem to match that part of the song.
took her a while to warm in to the song, but once she did, you could see Smokey enjoying it. How tough would that be, to sing one of Smokey's songs in front of him?
Great voice and feeling. However, she smiled and danced too much with the song. It is not a happy sunshine song, hence the name, Tracks of My Tears. Still, great sound.
I LOVE how she wins over a sceptical audience, me included, and slays that song with confidence. Well done.
Why doesnt this have millions of views?
She KILLED it. Such an underrated artist. Loved how she hit that last note. 👍👍🤩
For me audience approval is all important , and here you have Smokey Robinson himself really loving Natasha singing his classic, that has to mean it's a great version of the song. .
Natasha baby!! you did a wonderful job. I grew up on Motown and lived within 2 miles of Hitsville USA when did record was recorded
Wow!!! I had to watch is it again and again. Amazing voice.
This is the natasha bedingfield i fell in love with. OMG those riffs at the end!!!!!
Boy she gets it right... love her voice
My favorite cover 😍🙌🏽😎💯
Love how you can see that she wins over the audience at the end!❤
I do not vibe with covers but man she killed it. She put her own twist on it and didn't try to replicate Smokey at all. I love this
This is very refreshing and beautiful
Down to earth personality with an amazing voice. TOTALLY love it.
I love it that she turned the song into a happy fun song because it fit the event perfectly.
sort of defeats the purpose of the lyrics, rendering the song useless.
She's got a good voice but I just don't like her rendition of the song. This is supposed to be kind of a sad song But she tries to make it a happy song of love so it's just kind of defeating the purpose
One of my favourite songs ever. Natasha, you smashed it!! Superb girl ❤️🎶🎤
Her voice is amazing! She does some killer covers!
Damn that was awesome. Where the hell has Natasha Bedingfield been all this time?

She's phenomenal!
this performance was AMAZING. she blew me away.
Love seeing Stevie Wonder just enjoying the performance. Many legends in the audience, I think Natasha did amazing under pressure.🧡
Wow these comments are terrible! How can you tell someone to sing their own song at a TRIBUTE to another artist? Like really? Just wanting to say something rude? Ppl I swear smh! I still enjoy this performance! She did great! Smokey def seemed to think so and that's all that matters!
People don't know what they are on about.
What vocal control and power, she did this song her way, really the only way she could have done it. She owned this song this night and it showed and everyone knew it, Awesome.
she nailed it
I was worried at first but damn she felt her way all through the song and pulled along for the ride. Props Natasha props
that high note at the end >>>>
ruined what was already horrible, she should have gone down..
Sue McQueen What...your Momma you mean.
@@miou-miou- shes a great singer
What a breath of fresh air...How did I not know her?...Natasha, I won't forget that becautiful version of the "Tracks of my tears"...Very difficult to represent motown being white, but Wow! You did it and then some...
She did good and honestly I wasn’t expecting it because it’s hard challenge mimicking a legend.
I LOVE MY GURL SHE IS AMAZING, ONE OF THE BEST FEMALE VOCALIST OF OUR TIME!
thank you for posting this!! I fell absolutely in love with this when I watched the special
Wonderful, and the Motown guests clearly enjoyed it.
I'm speechless, her best perfomance.
Second best. Her best is covering Purple Rain.
Amazing amazing performance
Baby girl killed it❤
I love she and for me, on of the best performance of this fantastic Smoky Robinson Song!
She pulled it off! No small feat! ❤️❤️
She's great as usual!

You killed it!
ya pretty bold to get up and sing that in front of Stevie and smokey and nail it
Not just Smokey, but Stevie & Barack. Christ I'd shit a brick at performing in front of Stevie let alone everyone else lol
Performing in front of living legends...and having a ball doing it...priceless talent
I love you for this. Took much bottle. And done well I might add!!
AMAZING!
God I love that woman, she is amazing!
I love it 😍
stevie, natasha and amber riley gave my favorite performances of the night
Aww... I want to hear her speech too. She's just amazing.
LOVE YOUR VOICE NATASHA! Makes my day!
She starts off real nervous , and who wouldn't be given who's in the audience, but then she gets going and does a great job. Hats off I say.
This version is so good....Smokey at his best, lyrically 😊😊😊
Yes, I'm addicted as well. There's something about her voice. And yes the woman at 2:20 says it all.
awesome cover
Her crowd were loving her. VG performance.
best of the night!

Perfect!
I love it!!!
Natasha your voice is amazing well done
Inspite of all the negatives, I love this performance. Natasha looking stunning as ever. Good to see Smokey in the first row.
Damn!
I really like her rendition of this song....
She's great. I would love to hear a cover by Joss Stone.
Must be nerve racking performing a such a beautiful song in front of the master of it let alone in front of the US President
awesome
0:15 was such a beautiful sounded that was amiited
DAMN!!! Just...DAMN!
AMAZING :))
I just put a link to the whole show in the description box!
Fantastica
@ladylhyn The writer and original artist is Smokey Robinson, who was in the crowd at this event, and you can tell he approved.
There´s no music from one or anothers, just, there´s music.
Natasha did a great job!
SUPERLATIVA 💗💗💗
i LOVE how real she is! and who knew she could hit the notes like she did? those ending notes were AMAZING!
yeah .... Natasha blows us away ... even this cover song formerly sung by Aretha .... it is the best performance I can imagine .... and so thought the audience ??? as well as Smokey Robinson ? .....
Natashas new album is "Strip Me Away" .... YES !!! I'll go for it .....
HOLY SHIT SHE IS FK'N AWESOME!!!
Great legend
Vean como aplauden, es espectacular, todos aplauden , Smokey entre ellos ❤️
My favorite zZz--♡
THE NEXT TIME SHE ASK ME OUT I WILL NOT TURN HER DOWN!!!!!
@Skyboy4299
If your referring to the way she throws her head down and then has a huge smile. That's just Natasha. She's always done it
Simplesmente maravilhosa!
@ladylhyn It was originally recorded by Smokey Robinson
Reading the comments haha! She got a standing ovasion, you know! She rocked it and Smokey looked pleased. Ha!
GO HEAD GIRL! She sang that song!
Anita Baker also from Detroit does a superb cover of this.
I agree! Now that is something special, it's right up there with Smokey's version, but has her own stylish interpretation and Anita has the power to take it effortlessly anywhere and everywhere she wants! I think Natasha was a little overawed by the esteemed presence of so many legends in the audience hence a couple of dips here and there, but it was still a great effort.
im in l☺ve with natasha!♥♥♥
What's there to dislike? She killed and Smokey approved.
@Hickmania78
yes but only better i love smokey but this performance put's the cherry on top.the will never be a female artist to top that
Carl Milan uhm, I know this comment is only a decade old, but have you not heard Aretha’s version?
Stevey was like, 'dang, that sista can wail!'
Smokey wasn't sure until she sang "So take a gooood look at my face". Then he gave a look of approval.
Natasha even got a smile out of grandma.
I don't understand her smile and movement at 2:50 though. She looks good and moves well, but it doesn't seem to match that part of the song.
0:13 This little move! You just know its time for some Soul!
Is that Barry and Big Mike on the front row
took her a while to warm in to the song, but once she did, you could see Smokey enjoying it. How tough would that be, to sing one of Smokey's songs in front of him?
slam dunk!
Great voice and feeling. However, she smiled and danced too much with the song. It is not a happy sunshine song, hence the name, Tracks of My Tears. Still, great sound.
She smiled because smiling while you sing allows you to reach high notes more easily and increases their clarity/loudness.
She hit the C6. Wow!
