Amazing video! I grew up in NW Georgia and spent many family trips in those mountains. The pocket wilderness near Cohutta is one of my favorites. Those mountain streams are spectacular! Thank you for allowing me to tag along with you!
That event in helen is called AVF alpine volks fair. I was in town for it. During the week of the event they do a trail ride with Porsche cayenne and vw touaregs or similar vw audi Porsche vehicles.
It would have been cool running into that on the trail. We have local Audi's and Porsche that wheel down here, and I know they go up that way. Must be for that. There were some very cool builds driving around.
Just a heads up. That spot on the point at Lake Conasauga will get hammered by storms. Wind blows over the mountains, funnels down across the lake and blast that spot. FYI
@DefiantOffroad it's never a bad time, but it certainly rained more than I was expecting. I actually enjoy camping in cold, wet weather. This was a lot, though. Good gear makes it easy, and I think I have that sorted out now.
Great video! I can't believe how lush it is! I'm planning on taking on the GA Traverse in Feb. or March. I'll be reaching out for some tips. Let me know if you are interested in going.
Let me know when you're going. If nothing else, I can send you my Gaia folder with my map and waypoints. I've got a ton of camp spots marked and labeled.
Awesome video and even better adventure. I always wanted to bring my family here but not sure how to go about it. You don't happen to have a shareable map of your trip, do you? 🙃
@@oneplus2ins send me your email. I'll send you a pretty comprehensive map. Just know there may not be bathrooms at camp, and if there is, they're pit toilets. There's definitely no showers. I prefer going when it's cold, especially now that I have a diesel heater, which works way better than I thought it would.
I live in the Northwest Ga area and have been wanting to do the whole traverse. I have done the Cohutta/Big frog loop sections and everything west of that. The east side ends right on the other side of my little town in Alabama. Question do you prefer Gaia over onx? I see you have a map that you would share and would possibly add me to it to try out Gaia to do this trip. i would prefer to run it west to east so i could end at home lol. Can Gaia easily be setup to run your file the opposite way? Thanks for any help. Love your setup and looks like you had a great time.
@DougLedbetter-r2n the trip can be run either way. I have always run it west to east because it's easier for me, but the original route was east to west. Just know the western portion, from where it starts to Chatsworth, is highway and paved. Chatsworth really starts it for me. I prefer Gaia over OnX. I've tried both, and just like it better personally. Shoot me a private message with your email and I can add you to the map. It doesn't map it turn to turn for you like Google maps. I keep the map up on the stereo, and watch the vehicle marker, turning when necessary. At the speeds we run the trails it's easy. Have fun!

Great video. At the 51:45 mark of the video do you happen to have any coordinates to that camp site? We take a big trip in March every year with about 15 of us and always have a hard time finding a site big enough for all of our tents. Thanks
@jeremynewton666 34.8312049, -83.6764096 I believe is it. It was maybe 2 hours before I made it to Chattahoochee National Forest Campground. If you'd like, send me your email and I can add you as a user for my traverse map. It has the full map and all of my waypoints. All the camp spots are labeled with how many vehicles will fit. 5G is shown where you get phone reception, gas stations and all of your water crossings. I'll send you the Smokey Mountain 500 as well, since it's some of the same track, but has a ton of waypoints and is a slightly longer track.

What a fun trip.

@twistylensphoto8163 definitely good to know, thanks. The view was super nice, but if it was blowing like crazy there, that wouldn't be any fun
Great content, Chris!
Thanks, bud! I had no intention of it being this long, but that's just how it went. The trip was awesome 👌
