I love how it's "Mr. Kelley" and "Mr. Shatner" to him. The respect that he shows for the franchise and the characters just shines through this interview and his performance in the film. Way to go, Mr. Urban. You are a shining example of class.
I was surprised how well (and subtle) Karl Urban impression of Bones was. I was watching the trailer and I realized he had really captured his inflections and mannerisms well.
Urban captured McCoy in all his dripping sarcasm perfectly!! So proud!! Especially loved his first scene in the movie! Sidenote: He is such a cutie & don't you just love listening to him talk?!
No, paramount crew had their own cameras set up to film these, Standard-def PAL raw footage is what I was given to edit. So sadly, no HD on these interviews, but they were uploaded in full res, so once youtube processes it, there will be a nice high-quality viewing option.
I'm so happy he had a character all to himself! SO funny and so developed!...I love him as Eomer in LOTRs...he was fantastic...but this movie he showed more of his talent!!!
Urban's dedication to the series really paid off in this movie. Not only did he deliver the essence of McCoy absolutely Kelley-worthy, he even provided the character with a new dimension for further development! Congratulations, Mr. Urban!! Btw, there is a scene in LotR where he plays opposite "Wormtail", already with a split second of an "McCoy, bewildered" expression showing ;-) (and congrats also to the interviewer - at last something that is not hectic and silly)
I was impressed by the character development in this film, but no one shone more than Karl Urban. I loved De Kelley's McCoy and it was obvious on screen that Urban knew and respected the character that Kelley created. Without overtly imitating or parodying Kelley, Urban captuerd his essence perfectly. I am sorry Mr. Kelley did not live to see this great performance by a very fine actor.
Karl Urban is awesome to begin with and he's even more awesome because he played Bones to a T! He was so great! I've seen the movie three times in theaters, I'm a big time trekkie and he blew me away with his performance!
ive been a tekkie since i was 12 watching the sci fi channel hah...thanks to this show I am who I am...and btw Karl Urban IS the new Mccoy! He fills the shoes very well! Bravo and well done!
While no one can replace DeForest Kelley as Bones, I think Karl Urban did an excellent job of portraying a young Bones. He got pretty much the essence of McCoy down to a T.
I love, Karl! I love you as Cesar (Xena), as a bad guy in Riddick movie, riding over Rohan´s land (LOTR)...You have a great career. You´re handsome too.
Nervous? not so much, Karl is very easy going... fact is, I'm dead tired, completely exhausted here, this interview was done right off the back of two weeks of flat-out Supanova work, fact is I'm almost ready for a nice warm Coma here.
I did note in the movie he seemed to nail Kelly's mannerisms and speech patterns as Bones. I was surprised by that and gained a lot of respect for him as an actor.
"Kiwi" come from the kiwi bird which is a New Zealand national icon,Karl is from Auckland NZ Yay, it's so weird as a kiwi to see all these comments about his accent because its normal to me :)
OMG, he's a Trekkie! I'm thrilled! Mr. Urban is a fabulous Bones McCoy; the only glaring difference between the two (besides physicality like height and build) was that Karl Urban omits the "good ol' Southern boy" attitude that De Kelley brought to the role. That was fine with me, because I figure that attitude came along as the character aged. Also, this set of characters is more desperate than the original series characters ever was, so they can't be mellow.
First of all, I whole-heartedly agree with ImmortalAmethyst. I've been a Trekkie a long time, but have never really been a squealing fangirl for any particular character. Until now that is! I really wish they would have given Bones a bigger part in this movie. The original series made a point of showing them more as a trio than just a duo. IF there is another movie (*crosses fingers*) I would love to see more banter between McCoy and Spock.
Karl Urban nailed McCoy. I didn't like a lot of the other main cast as much, and the direction was really confusing with too many cuts with too much action. The storyline was ok, but of course the Spock/Uhura was thrown in just for the shock value. It was well performed though, so it's nice. I like Star Trek: The Motion Picture though, so don't read too much into my rant.
@qix77 They all nailed their roles. Even the original actors from the series agreed. Nichelle Nichols said it was like talking to her self 40yrs ago, Leonard Nimoy pretty much picked Zack himself, and Will Shatner was supportive of the new cast as well. And Karl's from New Zealand >____>
@qix77 Thank you for handling yourself with a lot of class. Despite reiterations ad nauseum regarding Karl Urban's nationality and some very rude comments, you chose to withhold the discourtesy. That's rare to see on youtube.
he was fantastic as Bone McCoy and plays is role right down to the wee looks he makes and the way he talks and I like how they were able to fit in the "im not a physicist, am a doctor" and also when he made fun of spock was hilarious.
I'm thinking you're right. Urban has the DeForest Kelly mojo going on big time! In the trailer when he says 'space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence' I can easily imagine Kelly saying that same line in the same acerbic way.
Blunty your seriously a great interviewer - Karl seems really comfortable, and your so calm too, which is really nice, i hate when interviewers are over excited, almost offensive with questions! - so 5/5 - 10/10 whatever you want! :P It was a great interview!
Well I thought he was cute and THEN I heard his accent! Forget cute, he's frickin hot! His accent and diction in the movie though reminds me of Nicholson like spot on. Please no one tell my boyfriend I posted this.
of all the characters, Karl Urban did the best job portraying such a classic image of Dr McCoy. He was so dead on with the persona of the original "Bones" Great job Karl. I thought the movie betrayed hardline Trek fans.
Karl Urban was a really good McCoy... maybe too good. To me, all of the other actors took their roles and made them their own. Mr. Urban, on the other hand, seemed like he studied DeForest Kelly and emulated him a bit too much.
I couldn't place his accent at all, mostly because I'm Australian and he sounded vaguely Aussie but NOT QUITE ... something was off. Aha! Thank you everyone, yes, New Zealand is exactly it.
@ace69er Yeah... I tried to fix that.. Net issues ftl. This dude was also in Lord Of The Rings movies... I finally realised where I'd seen him before... and *double facepalm*ed myself. HAHA!! D'oh!!
I see some very critical of the movie. Bottom line though this was the best Star Trek I have ever seen and I have been watching Star Trek for 40 years. The actors nailed their roles perfectly!
Oh my - hubba hubba. I do find Karl Urban to be so well spoken in his interviews. Easy to understand for me being an Aussie and him being a 'neighbour'. Just love his accent.
The Kiwi accent makes me go weak at the knees too. I think it's nicer on the ears than most Australian accents lol. I haven't seen this movie yet, seeing it next week and I can't wait
well done man, this interview on top of your watchmen ones must be just a huge dream come true. and i may regret saying this but i think urban's performance made up for DOOM lol.
Have avoided the new Star Trek it's sort of hard adapting to new people trying to be those older characters. I just watched a clip of Karl's work and I could pick 85% of those fast paced clips but I'm starting to realise 12% I missed was Karl as Bones.... don't know if I can ever get use to this but it is at least a talented cast....and it's Picard :D
I love Karl Urban! I never realised he was a kiwi (an almost Aussie). Cool, great interview Blunty. This and the John(Justin) Cho interview were awesome.
I love how it's "Mr. Kelley" and "Mr. Shatner" to him. The respect that he shows for the franchise and the characters just shines through this interview and his performance in the film. Way to go, Mr. Urban. You are a shining example of class.

I love the first thing McCoy says to Kirk in this movie.
"I may throw up on you."
He's really a good actor as we can see and he deserve of what he have now, more blessings Karl Urban!!
He did an outstanding job. His portrayal, of the original endearing character "Bones", was thoughtful and brilliant.
Karl was awesome in this movie. Just a brilliant portrayal.
No, paramount crew had their own cameras set up to film these, Standard-def PAL raw footage is what I was given to edit. So sadly, no HD on these interviews, but they were uploaded in full res, so once youtube processes it, there will be a nice high-quality viewing option.
I loved him as Eomer in LoTR, but his portrayal of McCoy blew me away!
OMG Karl is sooo cute!!! gotta love the accent.
I think he was awesome as mccoy in the new movie. my favorite actually..
I did interview him. I just haven't posted it yet.
I'm so happy he had a character all to himself! SO funny and so developed!...I love him as Eomer in LOTRs...he was fantastic...but this movie he showed more of his talent!!!
He's gonna do amazing as Bones McCoy I can't wait to see this Movie! Great job Blunty!
He's seems really nice!! He was awesome as Bones :)

He did a really good job! Bones is an amazing character "I'm a doctor, not a physicist!" Classic
Karl Urban is my main man......my bro, my future ex husband!
The character he plays is nicknamed "Bones" dude.
HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT! mind you he's a great actor, but omg! do I love this man *sigh*
"Blunty Bones Karl Urban" LOL. Made my day.
I was impressed by the character development in this film, but no one shone more than Karl Urban. I can hardly wait to see it... again :P

The body language said he was nervous. He is exceptionally confident when he's infront of the camera on his own though.
I was absolutely giddy every time Karl Urban opened his mouth in this movie. He nailed Leonard McCoy.
Bones has always been my favorit character and he did a really good job playing him
Nervous? not so much, Karl is very easy going... fact is, I'm dead tired, completely exhausted here, this interview was done right off the back of two weeks of flat-out Supanova work, fact is I'm almost ready for a nice warm Coma here.

Bravo Karl. You slammed McCoy. He was the only actor to emmulate his charactor properly. It was so fun to watch him in this film!
I sure do love Karl Urban, so I guess I HAVE to watch Star Trek now, haha.
How are you so hot and precious at the same time? I love you!!!
going from Eomer in Lord of the Rings to Bones in Star Trek
amazing!
I adore this guy!!! He is so intense and his Bones will be as iconic as the old one...
Not an Aussie, Karl is from New Zealand, he's a Kiwi
He absolutely ripped it up as Bones. Blew me away with his awesomeness. Karl, you're the MAN.
"Kiwi" come from the kiwi bird which is a New Zealand national icon,Karl is from Auckland NZ Yay, it's so weird as a kiwi to see all these comments about his accent because its normal to me :)
way to go Blunty.. Karl Urban is one of my favourite actors!
This guy nailed his role, hats off to him man!
teehee... sorry about your keyboard.
He was the best actor in the entire movie.
Karl is amazing he was great in star trek.
Into Darkness he was even better. He is great as Bones
OMG, he's a Trekkie! I'm thrilled! Seeing him in the movie he looked like a young Deforest Kelley.
@qix77 He's NOT British. clod.
Karl Urban nailed McCoy. I didn't like a lot of the other main cast as much, and the direction was really confusing with too many cuts with too much action. The storyline was ok, but of course the Spock/Uhura was thrown in just for the shock value. It was well performed though, so it's nice.

Its sooo good to have a fan acting in this movie. hes so Bones. But hes younger and sexy :) Love him, love the movie, love him acting as bones.
Urban is "okay" but sadly not HIM. I miss those amazing blue eyes of DeForrest Kelley a lot and that natural Southern guy he was.
Lots of people saying Aussie in response to the chick that thought he was British... umm peeps he from New Zealand
@qix77 You seriously think that a British accent? You're from the US aren't you. He's actually from New Zealand.
I thought he did an amazing job as Bones....and of course the fact that he is unbelievably hot is just a bonus!
i always thought that jean-luc too himself too seriously as a captain. Sisko seemed more real and believeable.
He was definitely good. Even better, he seems to have real chemistry with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.
OMG, Karl Urban is HOT !!!!
How do you get the chance to interview these artists? I envy you!!!
@UncleMikeNJ MTE!! Everyone else is good. But Karl is superlative! He channels De so well!!
Oh, thank you. And OMFG BLUNTY REPLIED TO MY COMMENT! O_O }=D I have been given the power...
haha! I see what you did thar. With the title and all, very clever.
Keep it up.(pun intended)
Damn Karl Urban is hot! So gruff and manly^^
Is he an aussie too? Cant place his accent
He's got a great talent for accents. Listen to how thick that N. Zealand accent is! ^_^
Lol, nope he is from New Zealand! I understand how you would get it confused though :)
no need to mix the two Kirk is already the perfect captain.
he captured his character PERFECTLY (with much due respect so did the others =D )
we'd like to see Sylar next :D most of us don't give a shit of his real actor name
Is he Australian? Sexy...reminds me of Huge Jackman a bit. He was great as McCoy and those are tuff shoes to fill...
That guy is freakin awesome
omg i played laser tag against him about 1 hour ago!! cool lol
Absolutely fantastic! Eomer, VAAKO, Reaper - always great and sexy! And always I
Yeah, he totally owned as McCoy as did Simon Pegg as Scotty.
wow Karl Urban is a hottie! He did great in this movie
man that was a awsome interview i just can't wait to see it in theaters :)
@qix77 lol he's not british, he's from new zealand.
@qix77 He's actually a New Zealander...just saying
