System Shock Remake Review | A Shockingly Good Remake

- A System Shock Remake review of a game that is almost 30 years old now. Old school fans of System Shock would be happy to know that the remake is a 1:1 in almost every way. Might be a little too faithful some would say, so no quest log on your screen telling you where to go or a waypoint on the navigation bar, at least on normal mission mode.
A very good remake I'm hoping to replay sometime in the future.

I finished this game like 4 days ago and was amazing
I really, really loved System Shock 2. I hope Nightdive takes on that game next. 🤞
They're working on an enhanced edition, so we may get it. After this remake I trust them with both, especially the remake. SS2 had some great music. 💀
Great review, really enjoying it myself. I haven't ever played the original though I've definitely got respect for what it achieved at the time. May eventually play it one day, I do have the Enhanced Edition on Steam.
I still think the original (well, the Enhanced Edition) is still worth playing despite the remake. It's nice to compare anyways.
@@Voidbrand I've been on a huge retro game kick the past few years. Really appreciating the creativity and skill of those that really kicked off the industry in the 90s.
I was surprised how great the System shock remake turned out, having said i still somewhat i prefer the original.
Good review, I'll have to check out both the original and the remake sometime.
Also Reshade can add filtering, AA, sharpen, colour correct and many other effects to almost any game.
I really want to check this out when I get a chance. Loved the original. Well, the Enhanced Edition. Great review!
You may love this one then. 💀 Curious to know what kind of mods the players will develop for this one.
For recall, you have to look at the entrance of the cyber space section
Awesome.
I am glad for this remake
Actually Diego is not the top guy at Triop.. he is just their executive officer on Citadel thats the whole deal with him getting the hacker to unlock shodan so he can do sneaky experiments behind the triop leadership's back
Given the last three games you reviewed, you may be interested in an Ultima adjacent series that took its own direction much later : Dragon Slayer by Falcom. Also, King's Field, if you can go beyond the jank.
Never heard of Dragon Slayer, but have heard/seen King's Field. I'll check them out one day.
About original soundtrack. It is complicated. It was heavy layered and constantly changing depending on situation. Nobody appreciated it and almost nobody even noticed.
It's not a 1:1 map recreation, many things have been altered, but it's true that it's a great remake that really conveys the 94' gaming desing sensibilities (and that's great).
I was predisposed to dislike this due to what a shitshow it's been, the first game is one of my favorite ever and my favorite of the 'shock' games, and I'm generally a misanthropic asshole who loves to shit on things.
And yet even I have to say that with the exception of thinking that the sound design can be a little dodgy, this is essentially everything I could have possibly wanted.
Still, they should add some notebook in the game or map indicators. I was stuck many times and had to watch the walktrough. Not to mention at the end of a game you needed self destruct codes which forces you to go back and look for them on entire map. That was huge kick in the balls, it doesnt make game harder, it makes it tidious. It was too much for me. I didnt enjoy this game as much as other remakes.
I would've loved an in-game notebook. Something like a hardware you get in the beginning to write notes with.
I hate the cyberspace part in the old game....i actually quite like the new one.
