This version far exceeds the original from four decades prior. Subtle nuances of changes have been made which are evident in the lighting, horns and additional back up singers. This version starts slow and increases its tempo along with flashing lights climaxing to a crescendo of voices as Neil enters at 1:43. We all know Neil now so it was only appropriate that a familiar verse was omitted, 'Take home my name, on the wings of a flea'. Beautiful and complex is this version as is the troubadour, Neil. Thank you Doug, for bringing this video to light. ✨

Many years ago, my grandmother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. She came to Houston . She saw a doctor. And in her tests they found lead. They began detoxing her. And she began to recover. But upon returning to her previous doctors, they took her off the treatment, and gave her medicines that were costly and with consequences.
You might want to consider seeking a second opinion. Many of the diseases like Parkinson’s has research that suggest that vitamin deficientcy and detox are necessary to slow if not stop the progression of Parkinson’s. You have the right to be in denial and not embrace this condition. I pray God leads the way.

Made it all the way to The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles from the far north of England in August '12 for the last two of Neil's five concert stand to celebrate the 40th anniversary of HOT AUGUST NIGHT.

and buying HOT AUGUST NIGHT as a 14 year old going entirely against the grain of my contemporaries - there is , after all , no accounting for taste .
This concert was , I believe , the 23rd of August ( Thursday) and the final , final
being on Saturday, 25th August ; a real
serendipitously book-ending of Neil's
original HOT AUGUST NIGHT date of
24th August 1972 . It is THE most
Impressionable and profound open -
air concert setting and I believe both
Neil and ' The Greek ' were both meant
for each other . In his own word's ...

took me , in a second - as only music and scent can do , to The London Palladium of the 25th June and Woburn Abbey of the following Saturday , 2nd July of 1977
where Neil had opened his European concerts with , at first , ' The Lament ' and then , seamlessly into ' Dance of The Sabres '... played at about 11 or 12 on the volume . So very , very much to recall

I love his entrance!! What I wouldn't have given to have all of the technical advances over the last 5 decades to be able to watch him perform back, not just picture it while blasting it through headphones. I'll guarantee that Neil Diamond and other singers with integrity NEVER needed to use autotune EVER! I look at the new "artists" of today like Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, The Wkend, and all the rappers and hiphop singers I just shake my head and wonder why people love what they are singing, the profanity that comes with a lot of it. I have a long list of artists from the 60's, 70's and not as many from the 80's who played and sang like Neil, we have truly been blessed to have the opportunity to see him perform. A couple other favorites for me are Glen Campbell, The Carpenters, England Dan and John Ford Coley, (their first 3 albums which never played on the radio are so beautiful, all folk music) and Kenny Rogers. My record collection is massive, but ND is #1 and always will be!!

Thanks for uploading Doug, you've been pretty busy lately! For me, this intro is OK but not a patch on Neil's classy entrance in HAN. Sadly, there's no video of it but back then, there was less dependence on flashing lights, accompanying singers etc. It was the incredible build-up that created an unforgettable atmosphere aptly described in the 40th anniversary edition of HAN:
"Then, softly, the music begins, the lights dim. Slowly, the heavy fire doors roll back; the music rises, the stage is a smoky, opalescent jewel in the darkness. But one light shines brighter than the others, a white pool in the brilliance, and, for an instant, sound hangs suspended, only the air breathing." Then all hell breaks loose (my words!).
For me, it's as much to do with the choice of song as well. IMHO "Crunchy Granola Suite" belongs at the beginning and "Soolaimon" belongs at the end with "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show". Truth be known, HAN is a hard act to follow! All the best, Paul
