I've read 6 or 7 of Dickens, and I want to read all of them! When I'm done reading all of Shakespeare, I'll probably make reading all of Dickens my next project. My fave Dickens (so far) is David Copperfield. 2nd fave- Bleak House.
Love seeing more classics on BookTube!
+Books for MKs I'm listening to David Copperfield right now and loving it! Classics are my jam 😉
I have just found that your way with dickens is similar to mine. I started with great expectations, and I extremely loved it which pushed me to read a tale of two cities which was not spoiled for me fortunately, and then hard times and bleak house which were fantastic, and then I read my favorite one LITTLE DORRIT. My next I think would be David copperfield. Keep up with this kind of videos, they are just amazing.
Just found you from watching Ange's videos, and I have to say that I'm totally obsessing over your Drop Cap and Clothbound editions. I want them all!!! Thank you for this video. I read Great Expectations years ago and don't remember it, but I love The Pickwick Papers so much! I never refer to my glasses as anything but spectacles now.
+Tinahgirl83 Ooo I'll have to read that one soon then! Glad you're enjoying my content!☺️
Well naturally I loved this video :) Hoorah for Dickens!
+Books and Things All the Dickens! As I finish more off I can watch more of your what the dickens series 😂
Hoorah! I hope you enjoy finishing off Dickens - I'm curious to hear your thoughts on them all :D
A tip: watch series at kaldrostream. Been using them for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Bowen Jake Yup, have been watching on kaldroStream for years myself =)
@Bowen Jake yea, have been using kaldrostream for since november myself =)
I have just started Dickens. I watched the BBC Little Dorrit a couple of years ago, then listened to the Simon Vance audiobook. I really enjoyed both and then read A Christmas Carol. I have seen the Bleak House BBC adaptation now and looking forward to picking up the book.
+Macklin Loosley-Millman Dickens is a lot of fun and much less stuffy than people think!
I read A Christmas Carol in school and did not enjoy it. I recently reread it and enjoyed it much more. I am trying to figure out what to read next, but Great Expectations does not interest me. Bleak House seems interesting but so long. You are making me think this is where I should start. :) Thank you!
WISHBONE!!! I wish I could find them to rewatch them!
First I read Great Expectations and I love it so much!! Right now I'm reading Hard Times and I think next I'll read A Tale of Two Cities or Little Dorrit
These are such lovely editions - I understand your need to complete your set!
+SwirlyGirlyReads It's so frustrating that I'm only two short aha
Awesome, I've fallen in love with Dickens after reading David Copperfield, reading Great Expectations now and loving it too, got Bleak House and Dombey & son for my next reads probably :D
I envy you so much; you have all the dickens’ books 😭
Glad I found this! Currently reading Great Expectations!
+Sean Reads glad I could help!
Such a great video! I'm currently reading Bleak House and really enjoying it! I'm missing 5 of the PEL editions and it's really breaking my heart :(
+Jackie teaspoons I know right?? So close and yet so far!
i've only read a christmas carol by charles dickens, but i can't wait to try some other books by him. great video, i really liked it :) would be great if you did more of these later!
+Elise J I have a Thomas Hardy one planned for next month ☺️ I'm glad you enjoyed it!
cool! i picked up far from the madding crown because of one of your videos mentioning it, very excited to get to it (and to see your video!) :)
Barnes and nobles has our mutual Friend.also Nickolas nickleby by Charles Dickens....i think it was like 14-16 dollars....i also got our mutual Friend off Amazon.not too long ago.it was only a few bucks
Great video! I have read A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist and Great Expectations before - you have inspired me to try a few more. I loved the BBC adaptation of Bleak House - done in small half hour episodes to imitate the Dickens instalments style - you should check it out.
+Martha Stoneham I've been (very) slowly working my way through that ☺️
I love all your vids Alicia, but these types are my favorite
+Books Over Tv thank you ☺️
Great overview of some of Dickens work. I can definitly see where you're coming from as regards Tale of Two Cities. The plot moves along very slowly in the middle of the book, and its only in the last 80 -100 pages that all those seemingly pointless details in the chapters that come before, suddenly take on great significance. Unlike you though, I wasn't at all familiar with the story, so thankfully my interest didnt wain too much.
Also, i like audiobooks, but i couldn't imagine experiencing David Copperfield without those beautiful original illustrations from Halbot Knight Browne.
Loved this! I would love to see more of these ^^
+Marie Berg thank you ☺️
I know this is probably very odd to have a comment on such an old video, however I have recently had the urge to read all of Dickens works in 2018. That being said, I am trying to decide on an edition to read from. Which would you recommend? I am looking at trying to collect the penguins although now more are out of print and since I am in America they are less likely to be found, or Vintage red spines? I really dont like some of the vintage reds covers though. I have the set of vintage dickens series that they just released on its way to me, but they did not republish everything he wrote.
Yes! Please make more :)
Where did you find the audiobook of David Copperfield narrated by Richard Armitage? Thanks!
+Jennifer LeBlanc I got mine from Audible :) I'm 11 chapters in and I love it!
+exlibris this might be the reason I finally try audible!
Author spotlights are fun. Maybe try G. Eliot, P. O'Brian, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, I. Asimov, M. Atwood, W. Faulkner, F. Dostoevsky....
+TimeAndChance Thomas Hardy is planned for next month ☺️
Really helpful. Thanks!
I've read the Old Curiosity Shop only and didn't really like it. The characters were sooo grotesque that I felt physical repulsion for the bad ones and an overdose of sweetness from the angel-like ones. After watching your review, I want to try the Great Expectations. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about Dickens's works, this kind of videos is very interesting!
+Nazira K T I haven't read that one yet but I will get to it eventually. Dickens creates quite a cast of characters but does have his stock ones that are always present. Hopefully you enjoy a different work more!
Is it okay to say I really don't enjoy Dickens (I prefer Mr Collins!) but I really loved this video and your critical eye...? :)
+literarydiversions Totally OK! I've only read the Woman in White by Wilkie Collins but I have the Moonstone on my shelf so I will get to more eventually!
Nice reviews keep it up.
Mr Dickins is the best no matter what he’ll put some color on your cheeks
