I think the Anthony Richardson and JJ comp is a little extreme. Especially when you consider how many more games JJ played than Anthony Richardson. If you look at it on a per game basis Anthony Richardson had more than 2x the rushing yards and 2x more rushing touchdowns. He also had about as many passing touchdowns per game, albeit with way more picks. However, Anthony Richardson didn't have coach Harbaugh or the best offensive line in college football. Also to state the obvious Anthony Richardson is a way better athlete (stronger, faster, bigger) than JJ McCarthy. Thats just my take but i think the comp for McCarthy is just weird because JJ isn't Anthony Richardson. He will never be used like Anthony Richardson. JJ is being drafted as a pocket passer who can run occasionally, Anthony Richardson was drafted as an athlete who can pass a football.
Completely agree, but I think you missed the point.
1. The whole point of the comparison between the two was that McCarthy didn't play enough in college to earn a top 5 pick. Richardson got drafted 4th overall playing half as many games as McCarthy did and had no where near the success.
2. Wasn't really comparing their play styles because Richardson is a true dual threat whereas McCarthy uses his legs more to avoid/escape pressure. They were asked to do different things in college (Richardson needed to win games; McCarthy needed to manage games) partially due to the skill of the team around them.
3. Josh Allen was the actual playstyle comp as both are pass first, use their legs to extend plays type of guys. Granted, Allen has the size and mentality to take over the game with his legs if he has to. McCarthy can run (in a less physical way than Josh) and we will have to wait and see how his legs are used both in game scheme and when plays break down.
Anthony Richardson couldn't even make it through 6 NFL games before getting knocked out for the yr so there's THAT,.

Couldn’t be going to a much better situation as far as weapons go that’s for sure! Very excited to see what he can do with Jettas, Addison and Hockenson
