I'd rather have tough policing in Waikiki than a bunch of rowdy drunks disturbing the peace and causing mayhem for everyone else. Good to see HPD letting these people know this type of behavior is not going to be tolerated.

Only if HPD can differentiate between tough policing and abusive policing. Telling some one to leave and then arresting him as he turns his back to leave is abusive. It’s like the police saying they are not detaining or arresting you but will not let you leave until they ask you questions and you to provide ID. If you try to leave, they will arrest you for obstruction, interfering with a police investigation, and resisting arrest. I wonder if the police had their cameras on?

@@CeasarBergonia And you’ve obviously been a Police Officer and have done the job?? I highly doubt it. They were given an order to leave the area. Did they leave, or continue to obstruct and break the law? Oh wait, you obviously would have done a better job at “talking” your way to a bunch of intoxicated and unruly individuals to kindly leave and disperse the area right? You would’ve said “pretty please” and they would’ve left right? 🤣🤣

@@maxfit68906 why didn’t the police arrest him right away if he was rowdy and disturbing the peace? Why talk and play games? The police statement “you have 2 sec to leave” and as the person walks away “your under arrest” was a stupid abusive FU game. The police should have waited until the person turned back around to face the police. I agree with you that the person behavior should not be tolerated, but the police can’t play games because it will cost tax payer money defending a civil lawsuit, which in this case the person may win. The police need to know the difference between tough law enforcement and abusive law enforcement, in this case the fat cop doesn’t know the difference and it’s going to cost the tax payers. Btw I never worked as a Police officer but I was selected as a Juror. You now the person he gets to vote if a person is not guilty or if the HPD violated someone rights.

Police work is difficult without question. But that fat policeman who confronted that disrespectful drunk, who turned his back ignoring him and walked away, should not have escalated the confrontation by immediately saying, you're under arrest. That was a mistake. Then the other officers were forced to help take down and arrest that drunk man. That situation could easily turn into a disaster. If the drunk man was stronger and police shoot him, or gets severely injured due to excessive force. And later the HPD media liaison lied, to cover up the misguided police actions (unless the officer lied in his police report). After what happened to George Floyd, police departments were advised to avoid unnecessary arrests and de-escalate confrontations. The police were lucky that the drunk crowd didn't turn into an angry mob against them. That angry policeman should be reprimanded for his poor judgement. He already took away their alcohol, no additional action was needed. Feeling disrespected is not enough cause to arrest someone. That's police power abuse.

I wholeheartedly support all of the actions of HPD in this video clip. That was a righteous takedown, down with skill and without injury. Things escalate unbelievably quickly. They only had three officers for one crazy fighting guy. In the psych hospital we get six on one. Still not easy. I was impressed with their take down, actually. People who see that need to know what they are looking at and then they can see the high skill of those officers. Thank you, HPD.

KITV is trash. I just happened to see this on UA-cam and it looked interesting. KITV, your job is not to pass judgement on HPD. Your job is just to report what happened. This is the reason I stopped watching KITV News years and years ago. I don't even know who is on staff anymore. Looks like they haven't changed. Oh, and Rep. Tam, were you there? Did you actually SEE it happen? If not, just keep your mouth shut until you learn all the facts.

I notice incidents like this are more common amongst those who didn’t grow up in Hawaii, and therefore have less respect for police authority. Also, if you are asking the police to deal with these blatant lawbreakers, sometimes physical force is required. Let the police do their job, because you complainers obviously can’t. Sometimes, force must be restrained by force. These are unruly criminals the police have to deal with, criminals aren’t gonna just roll over and comply.

Rep Tam, go on a ride along and see how you handle drunks, or stay home and criticize. Neighborhood board members go out and conduct some citizen patrol, everyone has a good idea on how to handle noncompliant drunks. KITV guy, police can use force to effect an arrest. To many people challenge authorities and the media always feels sorry for them. Being a Police Officer is Hard. Hold people accountable and stop with “they should of done better”

We're all entitled and I think some people in this world needs to be humbled, otherwise there'll be chaos and our world is going to fall apart by 2040. People need to stop trying to be cool and just act normal.
