Lyrics:
Doctor: Nurse Johnson, is the mother still in the recovery room?
Nurse: Yes, Dr. Blair
Doctor: OK, I'll go to the waiting room and inform the father it's a boy
Nurse: I'm afraid there is no father, sir
Doctor: Another ghetto bastard, huh?
Nurse: I'm afraid so
Doctor: Well, put him with the rest of the born losers
Nurse: All right doctor, a shame isn't it?
Doctor: Not a shame, a problem
Smooth it out
This is a story about the drifter
Who waited for the worst, cause the best lived 'cross town
Who never planned on having so didn't
Why me, huh
Everything's gonna be alright (alright)
Everything's gonna be alright (alright)
Everything's gonna be alright now (alright)
Everything's gonna be alright (alright)
Some get a little and some get none
Some catch a bad one and some leave the job half done
I was one who never had and always mad
Never knew my dad, motherfuck the fag
Well anyway, I did pick ups, lift and click-ups
Too many stick-ups, cause niggas had the trigger hiccups
I couldn't get a job, nappy hair was not allowed
My mother couldn't afford us all, she had to throw me out
I walked the strip with just a clip, who wanna hit
They got 'em quick, I had to eat, this money's good as spent
A 'do in braids, I wasn't paid enough
I kept 'em long cause I couldn't afford a haircut
I got laughed at, I got chumped, I got dissed
I got upset, I got a Tec and a banana clip
Was down to throw the lead to any telling crackhead
I'd still'a been broke, so a lot of good it woulda did
Or done, if not for bad luck, I would have none
Why did I have to live a life of such a bad one
Why when I was a kid and played I was a sad one
And always wanted to live like this or that one
[Hook]
A ghetto bastard, born next to the projects
Living in the slums with bums, I said, "now why, Treach"
"Do it have to be like this"
Momma said I'm priceless
So I am all worthless, starved, and it's just what being nice gets
Sometimes I wish I could afford a pistol then, though
To stop the hell, I would've ended things a while ago
I ain't have jack but a black hat and knapsack
War scars, stolen cars, and a blackjack
Drop that, and now you want me to rap and give?
Say something positive?
Well positive ain't where I live
I live right around the corner from West Hell
Two blocks from South Shit and once in a jail cell
The sun never shone on my side of the street, see
And only once or twice a week I would speak
I walked alone, my state of mind was home sweet home
I couldn't keep a girl, they wanted kids with cars and chrome
Some life, if you ain't wear gold your style was old
And you got more juice and dough for every bottle sold
Hell no, I say there's gotta be a better way
But hey, never gamble in a game that you can't play
I'm slowin' and flowin' and going in on and knowing not now
How will I do it, how will I make it
I won't, that's how
Why me, huh
[Hook]
My third year into adulthood, and still a knucklehead
I'm better off dead huh, that's what my neighbor said
I don't do jack but fighting, lightin' up the streets at night
Playing hide-and-seek with a machete sexing Freddy's wife
Some say I'm rolling on, nothing but a dog now
I answer that with a "fuck you" and a bow-wow
Cause I done been through more shit within the last week
Than a fly flowing in doo-doo on the concrete
I been a deadbeat, dead to the world and dead wrong
Since I was born that's my life, oh you don't know this song
So don't say jack, and please don't say you understand
All that man-to-man talk can walk, damn
If you ain't live it, you couldn't feel it, so kill it skillet
And all that talk about it won't help it out, now will it?
In Illtown, pure luck got stuck-up, props got shot
Don't worry got hit by a flurry, and his punk-ass dropped
But I'm the one who has been labeled as an outcast
They teach in schools, I'm the misfit y'all will outlast
But that's cool with the fool, smack 'em backwards
That's what you get for fucking with a ghetto bastard
If you ain't ever been to the ghetto
Don't ever come to the ghetto
Cause you wouldn't understand the ghetto
And stay the fuck out of the ghetto
Why me (alright)

Imagine if this came out today? One of many why Treach, Naughty by nature are legendary.
That's is hands down the hardest line in the song I always thought. It tells the whole story in 2 bars. Being pushed away, loneliness turns to anger with no remorse, and Trigga Tech is born.
These rappers nowadays could never create a masterpiece like this. Damn this brought me back.
I think they could but would have to dig deep down to be creative because the struggle of today is definitely not what it used to be. They just choose not to.
No they couldn't, because you got to understand the struggle first, and why are you struggling when there are way more opportunities now, back then it wasn't for many blk and brown youth in the urban cities, because since the '40s the system was designed to keep us suppressed. I know what real government cheese taste like. Home with no heat. These kids today are in the streets for no reason. You may have a few that is struggling, but not as many as it was back in the day like myself.

@@toyaadams7878 Well Ms Adams, you kind of answered it yourself in the reply. Treach and 2Pac were friends. Treach has a tattoo of the man on his body for crying out loud. Here is a link of Treach performing Hail Mary at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for further reference:ua-cam.com/video/C6CogaDEOTI/v-deo.html
There are not many mentions of the artists you mentioned (Wu-Tang, Redman, Fugees) because there is no intense history between them. 2Pac and Biggie will forever be intertwined because of their early friendship and intense rivalry at the ends of their lives. Truly amazing imagery: "I walked alone, my state of mind was home sweet home." His gifted style creates an image of a child walking through this street-war torn ghetto and in his young mind this was home sweet home. So many gems of wisdom in this song. Here's another of my absolute favorites: In Illtown, "pure luck" got stuck-up, "props" got shot
"Don't worry" got hit by a flurry and his punk ass dropped.
He takes colloquial phrases that attempt to placate people going through struggles and raps how they meet their demise in illtown

Right now I confess Jesus as my Lord. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved. Amen.
4.4 million is hella disrespectful.🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Real hip hop at it's finest. I wish today's music was like back in the 90's.
Love This ERA of Music
Me too!!! The days of Yo! MTV Raps, etc...
Treach is very underrated, I'm not sure why his name never comes out when people talk about the best lyricist ever. I've only heard Eminem mention Treach in that light. He also had a lot of hits in the 90s, I think being from Jersey is part of it, if he were from NYC he would get more recognition.
Man, that might be true. He's forever in the G.O.A.T. discussion whenever I'm involved. As well as the most underrated discussion. Extremely prolific, as rhythmic as it gets, wide vocabulary, and top notch at either rhyming strong wordplay or conceptually. He also demonstrated powerful battle potential. He's literally the full package when it comes to Hip Hop repertoire. Perhaps more so than all the rest, even the other G.O.A.T. candidates.
Right on, great comment.
@@8thYang You're 100% correct. The song "Yoke the Joker" is a lyrical master piece. Treach is one of the goats.
Treach is a master of his craft! 🔥
When I was a kid and my father left us I use to play this song and pray that I would grow to be a good man unlike him.
Don't give up and you will already be better.... everything's gonna be alright

For another person, his (or her) parents have to be a failure in order for him to become a better one

definitely top5 tracks of all time. his ability to paint a picture with these lyrics.... insane !
They were so raw when this dropped. Instantly fell in love with this group. considering how huge their 1st single was, this was enough to cement them as hitmakers and separate them from the rest.
The difference between the golden era and these days - substance and soul
Treach was painting a story that maybe all the lyrics don't apply to your life but there's something in there that's a piece of every young black man's life who's growing up just a bit slighted in this world.
"Say something positive well positive ain't where I live" has GOT to be the most truthful line ever uttered
THIS is how it was in hip hop...raw...real and no apologies!
