After 3.5 Years: Some Of The Last Steps To Be Built on Croagh Patrick

The Croagh Patrick Stakeholders Group formed in November 2015 as a Community response to concerns over the condition of the mountain. Other concerns included safety and liability of shareholders and landowners, the status of Croagh Patrick as Ireland’s Holy Mountain and the absence of structures to manage the impact of growing numbers of recreational users on the natural environment, habitats and ecosystems of the area.
The group has a broad representation of stakeholders including Mountain Shareholders, Church, Murrisk Community, Mayo County Council, South West Mayo Development Company, Mountaineering Ireland, Mayo Mountain Rescue, Croagh Patrick Archaeological Society and members of the Tourism and Adventure Sectors.

We did the walk to the top, last Tuesday and met the guys finishing up. It really takes you to actually see the work on the cone, to appreciate the effort that went into it. Not a complicated job but when you realize the actual man hours that went into it there is only one word that comes to mind. Wow. Respect to all the people involved as its not just for us but for future generations of Irish people, tourists and pilgrims. If any Irish politician actually did the walk to the top, the cheque books would be out to improve the Holy Mountain.

Loved meeting one of the skilled tradesmen on the hike up a few weeks back. I have hiked all over the world (including the Reek in 2009) an never seen this level of competence and artistry in the rehab of this heavily used trail.
