This is the first season in years where Washington's roster hasn't been gutted from injuries, so I expected them to be a strong bubble playoff team, but nothing like this. It's like when Vegas had that one terrible season of injuries but instead the Capitals had three of them in a row, so people stopped considering them to be a good team.
I live in Utah, so I just adopted Utah HC as my new team, but before that I was a lifelong Caps fan. Just my luck that they choose this season to be good again. 😂

love the video as a caps fan….quick correction the caps PK is not 77% it is currently 83.9% (not that you cant make an error we are all human, but it makes sense there GAA being so low with an 84% PK oppose to 77%)
Shannon something you missed pointing out previous records after 29 games into the season, was the fact the Caps had 3 previous coaches in Trotz, Reirden and Laviolette. Each of those coaches had different coaching styles. The rosters were different as well. Some of those seasons they had significant injuries that effected the team more. You also have to factor, the Caps have only advanced past the 2nd round of the playoffs, just 3 times in their history('90, '98 and '18)! Basically their 29 game starts have nothing to do with their playoff performances. They are just a bad playoff team in general!
I’m incredibly proud of this team and they’ve been so so fun to watch this season!! However, the caps are very prone to a January slump so I’m expecting them to drop off a bit but I hope they prove me wrong!
I love the caps, been a fan since 94, but I still am not sold tbh (unpopular opinion) Too many come from behind victories right now, we might be winning, but its not a good way to win. I think we hit a low in January, maybe even as soon as Ovi comes back, but I think we end up close to the WC, if not in it by playoff time.
The interesting thing about the Capitals is that there isn't a single player you can point to that deserves awards or accolades blah blah blah. It is truly an all around team effort that deserves praise. Maybe you could point to Carbury and say he deserves Jack Adams consideration (which i definitely do, #1 byest hockey)
PLD should be considered for Selke at this point not the front runner Carberry absolutely should be Jack Adam's Carlson should be considered for the Norris not the front runner. He's been significantly better defensively the last couple years
I think everything is simple here, they take doping in the same way as in the cup season, so the chances of a cup this season are just as great, although they can calm down after Ovi breaks Gretsky's record, we will watch...
Not really a Caps fan. Barring injuries or just some major breakdown(s), I feel they are 100% a contender. They've shown that there isn't really a team in the league at this point that they can't step out on the ice and go toe to toe with.
Sorry for the accident dislike, always love the content just a fat finger and ofc I changed it to a like hope all is welll with you Mr hockeyguy and I hope you have had a great holiday season and continue to do so!
i basically said this in the recent power rankings vid, but for ~2 decades everytime Ovi has been hurt the team has played fine to good, which would always lead to ppl jokingly saying "no ovi, no problem"... but tbh for the first time ever i finally actually believe it
When you look closely, you can find reasons to think that the Caps, Canes, or Devils will have the best record in the East. They'll be highs and lulls all season (Caps are the only 1 of 3 that has not had one) but it looks to me like a horse race until April for playoff positioning right now. Getting 1st in that division will give a much easier first round opponent come playoff time. I don't see the Caps as a cup contender for the simple reason that they have little in terms of credible star talent aside from Ovi. Ovi is such a slow skater these days and will not likely get any faster after returning from his injury. He didn't register a single point in last year's playoffs when they were swept by the Rangers. Defenders in the playoffs are more likely to give up the body on shot blocks and boxing his big frame out down low in the playoffs and he's kind of a one trick pony with only that shot in his arsenal. Can't say that guys like MacMichael, DuBois, and Strome scream game breaking playoff talent; though Wilson often does deliver. The top of the Metro is stacked.
As a devils fan, the good news is that we are the only team to beat them twice so far. It is admirable how well they have done, but I am not rooting for them AT ALL. And if we face them in the playoffs I'm not "scared" per say.
There's a thing. Whenever Strome & Protas weren't on the same line on weren't on the first line, the Caps lost. This was exactly the case in both losses to Jersey. And in the second loss the Caps hadn't yet adjusted to playing without Ovi
As a Capitals fan, we've owned the Devils for years. Jersey is property of Washington now. The Capitals play well against the Devils and I don't see that changing. If it comes to the playoffs and we meet the Devils, then so be it. Bring on the Devils!
Devils have been mediocre for years now they’ve had like 2 winning seasons and one playoff series win since 2012 why would the capitals be scared of them?

@@justinstockman327as of right now, in order to make the money work, i’d probably say mangiapane and van riemsdyk are probably on their ways out. god only knows how much money chychrun and the goalies are gonna want, and a bunch of young guys contracts are up after next season, so there’s likely gonna be a lot of turnover in the next 2 years. the only things that are absolutely imperative are re-signing chych, mcmichael, and thompson. i’d love to add dowd to that list bc he’s one of the best bottom 6 guys in the league, but he’s like 34
Well they did win ten games in a row on the road so they qualify for the video on a technicality.
Edit. Both goalies contracts are up. Plus they have a few coming to fill in any potential holes.
Thank you, Mr. Hockey Guy :)
Great video. Also interesting is that they've only lost 2 consecutive games once
They really killed in the the draft and in their farm system. The young players from Hershey are killing it in the NHL as well
Been saying it since the jump.
Damn Shannon look what you have done😭
a surprise so far but time will tell
so glad i got their jersey last month
I live in Utah, so I just adopted Utah HC as my new team, but before that I was a lifelong Caps fan. Just my luck that they choose this season to be good again. 😂
No reason you can't have one team in each conference
@@chrismdb5686 Not the one that injured Ovi though!
@@chrismdb5686 I did this for a bit. First with the Sharks in the 90s and later with the Coyotes for 2 years or so when they had Kuemper in net before the pandemic.
LETS GO CAPS!!
WEEOOO WEEOOO WAGON ALERT
love the video as a caps fan….quick correction the caps PK is not 77% it is currently 83.9% (not that you cant make an error we are all human, but it makes sense there GAA being so low with an 84% PK oppose to 77%)
Shannon something you missed pointing out previous records after 29 games into the season, was the fact the Caps had 3 previous coaches in Trotz, Reirden and Laviolette.
Congrats on 333k!
Even if I said it already, it bears repeating.
I’m incredibly proud of this team and they’ve been so so fun to watch this season!! However, the caps are very prone to a January slump so I’m expecting them to drop off a bit but I hope they prove me wrong!
I definitely view this team as a contender!
I predicted 49 wins from them in September and another cup victory. Didn't think I'd be this close lol
PLD should be considered for Selke at this point not the front runner
Carberry absolutely should be Jack Adam's
Carlson should be considered for the Norris not the front runner. He's been significantly better defensively the last couple years
@@DeedleEdmonds Ovi was looking like he might win his 10th Rocket Richard before he got injured.
@Falllll he's only 7 goals back of draisaitl with tons of hockey left
@@Falllll Insane work at 39 years old
And there goes the streak!
CAPS CAPS CAPS🎉❤
I think everything is simple here, they take doping in the same way as in the cup season, so the chances of a cup this season are just as great, although they can calm down after Ovi breaks Gretsky's record, we will watch...
What’s funny is that the Capitals are doing the opposite of what their arch nemesis the Penguins are doing in how they are handling their rosters.
Too early for the contender conversation. Well chat after the january break
What ever you do Caps please please don’t win the President’s Trophy!
Chychrun Mikey and Logan need to be given 8 year contracts NOW
Washington's a wagon from Shannon. Might be the best statement in channel history
Seriously
LETS GO CAPS!!!
People praising Dubois for a 50 point pace is pretty wild, of course the dumpster fire he was for LA last season makes 50 points a decent season.
Let us discuss this lettuce🥬
We might be winning without ovi but it's not comfortable or pretty.
There is a CLEAR difference between the caps with him and without him
Go Caps
Not really a Caps fan. Barring injuries or just some major breakdown(s), I feel they are 100% a contender. They've shown that there isn't really a team in the league at this point that they can't step out on the ice and go toe to toe with.
Let's see whether it's a fluke or not so as wild in the west also
What happens when the team is better without Ovi?
Isnt it unlikely that the presidents winner win Lord Stanley??
Cant remember last time both were won the same hockey season.
@@KristofferThorsheimIf only one could look up The Hockey Guy President Trophy and find a video about it.
THG has a video about this.
Go away Caps. Go away. I want my Jets to win
Sorry for the accident dislike, always love the content just a fat finger and ofc I changed it to a like hope all is welll with you Mr hockeyguy and I hope you have had a great holiday season and continue to do so!
Caps Oilers cup final
But it’s not March
Wash is washed?
No that is cap. Wash is cap
They are better without Ovechkin. It's a team sport.
He was top in the league in plus minus buddy. Casual take 😂
i basically said this in the recent power rankings vid, but for ~2 decades everytime Ovi has been hurt the team has played fine to good, which would always lead to ppl jokingly saying "no ovi, no problem"... but tbh for the first time ever i finally actually believe it
....and they lose game 1 after this video
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
All your fault, real caps fans (dislike) the hockey guy
😃
DELETE THIS VIDEO RIGHT NOW!!!!
Let the chips fall where they may.
@@xlr0gd205 that's a nice coincidence. Still taking the devils in 5 hahaha
Devils have been mediocre for years now they’ve had like 2 winning seasons and one playoff series win since 2012 why would the capitals be scared of them?
Cmon...a bigger story is the Leafs in 1st place. Can they keep this lead????
That's not a bigger story.
You sound like Toronto sports media haha
Yeah it's not like we get enough Toronto Maple Leafs news coverage as it is. Forget 98% of all hockey related stories being about Toronto, let's see if we can make it 99%.
Bigger story? Lol.
