Awesome groove explanation, perfect, thank you for keeping Raul's memory alive and honoring him in your channel, he was a great player and a great human being, who always kept a smile on stage regarding everything that life threw at him. You don't have to extrapolate Raul's work for this album, there's a video called "Supernatural Rhythm & Grooves" in which Raul and Karl do a very educational explanation of each song, including Love of My Life.
OK Kalani, this is goi;g to make me join on Patreon. If only for the PDF of this. I have supported other musicians via Patreon as well because I like to spend my money on people that support me in my music. Anyway we, ( me and daughters) met you at a drum clinic in Denver, mid 90’s. You referred to Remo acousticon drums as “paper and plastic” drums. I was playing a big Remo accusticon Ashiko, affectionately referred to as the fruit salad drum by my kids. They weren’t very happy with you diss’ing our drum. I am sure the road and these clinic/ drum circles get old after a while and your disposition was less than what we see here in these videos.Idid win a VHS tape labeled How to Play Djembe, but the tape inside was on playing Dun-Duns. We have spoken of you as High Colonic since then. All has changed since then. I truly enjoy the videos presented here. And will become a Patreon member later today.
Kalani you are an expert at explaining how grooves work and are also so knowledgeable about identifying the key parts of a rhythm, as far as the percussion. One of my favorite conga solos on UA-cam is 'Yoel Del Sol solo on Congas with Tycoon Percussion'. This solo is has many simple parts to it, but is very effective. Maybe you could pick out a few parts of this and explain them to us average players. Thanks man!
Cool Groove! a little tricky for my hands to get at first. It even could work with samba and other "brazilian jazz" try grooves (obviously Conga isn't used in traditional brazilian music, but I have played in "Fusion" bands" where I have to cover a lot of different styles with a limited amount of drums so I have a few conga grooves that work well against the trpical samba Surdu or kick drum pattern (If you are playing with a drummer on drum set). I am going to add this pattern to my collection ;}

It’s my honor and pleasure to remember Raul through rhythm and music. He was one of the greats.
Agreed! Raul was an awesome human.
The second pattern in this tune is definitely Raul's Mozambique. Definitely worth checking out!
Excellent session! I love learning percussion in this format.
Didn't know Howie Mandel is a drummer
