The Golden Gays are mostly former performers who live together and take care of each other as their chosen family. During the tenure of Justo Justo (JJ), a member of the Pasay City council, the Golden Gays were assured of financial support and housing. But upon JJ's demise, they lost all that security. Now the Golden Gays have barely enough to make ends meet. From day 1, Precious Paula Nicole has been championing their cause.
If you check the New York Times feature on the Golden Gays, it starts off with how Carmen dela Rue sells cigarettes and candies on the streets to help provide for their needs.
