    It always amazes seeing firefighters poring massive amounts of water on a total lose structure, while ignoring the exposures.

      I see what your saying Glenn Huber, I myself am a volunteer, but where I’m from, you don’t see engine crews hitting the fire on the roof, that’s what the truck crews are for, show up on scene and the structure is fully involved, we just set trucks up, get the ladders in the air, a dump some 800 dam gallons of water on that fire, that was over exaggerating if you couldn’t tell

    • @ffjsb
      @ffjsb 6 років тому +2

      Uh, the BEST way to protect the exposures is to put the fire out. If you stopped to think about it, it looks like they had water supply issues. They had multiple lines with crews on them, but it looked like they didn't have enough water to supply them. GPM's put out fire. Maybe you should think about that first instead of ranting.

    • @bigphillyed
      @bigphillyed 6 років тому +4

      There should have been a line onto the side of the house on side B, even a booster line would have sufficient. Your almighty knowledge of firefighting is very weak at best. There was no water supply issues, and protecting exposures on a surround and drown is priority over the burning structure. Putting juice on the burned out structure is a waste of time, that job was gone, no sense in wasting water on that instead of the exposures. By the way not a rant, just an observation jack ass.

    • @ffjsb
      @ffjsb 6 років тому +1

      Son, I guarantee you that I've been on the job a lot longer than you. And the fact that you'd use a booster line on a working fire just shows how ignorant you are. You weren't there, and you don't know the details, nor can you see the other sides. And oh yes, that WAS a rant.

    The best exposure protection it´s put the fire out ASAP. In this case, the deck gun must be attacking as the first option, direct from the onboard tank...but in any case, the stream must be directed from 1st to 3rd floor, not 3rd to 1st as seen in the video.

    Fd arrived on scene to a fully involved fire with extension into the B side exposure. The fire building was a defensive fire due to the interior being unsurvivable the Exposure was saved by the use of an interior attack two lines clearly visible going into the bravo side exposure visible at 1:16. The Delta side of the exposure constructed of bricks mineral based finish won't burn and insulates the flammable material from the radiant heat. Fire fighters doing a coordinated fire attack following orders from the IC and we only have a single point of view with no fireground audio. So we don't know what is happening on the Charlie and Delta sides of the fire building. Please note all of my comments are observational no guessing.

Also, how does a fully involved structure only a single deck gun/monitor playing water on the fire and no aerial tower(s) nor any Handline(s) not even a handline for a water screen to protect the exposure on "B" side of the fire ??? TFSFireman I serve in kawartha lakes about 2 hrs north east of Toronto we have deck guns on our pumpers .I have yet to see one used at a fire as we usually rely on tanker support water shuttling from dry hydrants creeks lakes etc so usually on arrival we pull a 45 mm handline till the next halls arrive and start relay pumping to the initial attack pumper from portable tanks then well get out the 65mm handlines but where you serve I imagine you have high flow hydrants so a deck gun could be useful .I agree 2 65s put out a lot of water.

    • @roadscholar9323
      @roadscholar9323 6 років тому

      Water flows down, and heat rises. Water put up high will drop to fire below, theoretically cooling it below combustion point. I agree, it looked strange.but when you attack a fire (in an enclosed space, especially) hit the ceiling and get a steam cloud forming to reduce temp of the fire. But this didn't work well in an open roof structure, as the video shows.

    • @stephenhanneken3041
      @stephenhanneken3041 3 роки тому

      An initial alarm of fire is answered by a pre-determined number of engines (pumpers), aerial appliances (ladder trucks), and other units including chiefs. The makeup of this is variable across jurisdictions and is often based upon the type of occupancy involved.
      If the incident commander feels a fire is beyond control with the first alarm assignment he/she can ask for additional units, either individually or by asking for an additional alarm which will be answered by a pre-determined list of units as was done on the first alarm.
      In many large cities each area has as many as five alarms set up in their operational plans but with computer-assisted dispatch (CAD) systems it might go higher.

    poor house!
    it seemed to me that with a structure as fully involved as this one was, attacking the blaze is pointless, and all effort should be expended to protect exposures.
    this place clearly was not salvageable from the time the video commenced.
    did they determine the cause?
    well shot!

    How did the fire get so out of control in the first place ? Didn't anyone notice smoke before it was fully involved ? Even if people in the neighborhood didn't see the smoke , they had to smell it , nobody wondered where it was coming from ? I used to live in a wooded very rural area where homes could be a mile apart , at night the only way to notice a fire is from the orange glow in the sky , but this is a residential neighborhood , fires make a lot of noise with glass breaking an things bursting and popping , and no one noticed ? As a retired firefighter I would think they would have more than one line in operation , one engine can easily supply 4 lines at 250 gpm , that's more than enough to cool this house off enough so the fire goes out , I do see lines laying on the ground , but none in operation . It's a shame a man lost his life , I doubt if the fire department could have done anything to save him , the building was fully involved when they arrived , he was gone by then .

    • @ffjsb
      @ffjsb 6 років тому +2

      That's exactly what I was thinking, wonder if they had a bunch of batteries or something. It certainly is strange for a fire to get that much of a head start, so maybe they had some kind of combustible metals in a large amount that got going, and caused the fire to grow amazingly fast.

      I think that might have been the floors collapsing cause the power line was on the right side because at the end you see when it collapsed it flashed twice even brighter

      You're not a firefighter so you can't respond, no common sense responses are allowed. You don't have to be too bright to see where the water should be but firemen know better.
