Ok I’ve locked in your new raid and dungeon builds. As for your new farming build, I prefer to primary attack the whole time and not be slowed down, so I think I’ll prefer flooded stream there. Also, I prefer flaring lighthouse pants, since they have a lower cooldown than waverider. I don’t need the knock back in pve, but the shield could come in handy in tougher content. I’ll run some dungeons and let you know my impressions. I’m excited!
Bro we dps’d down Baal so fast that the game bugged out and didn’t reward us for completion. I recorded the moment to show my grandchildren someday lol! First impressions: your new dungeon build is sick, and I don’t need to primary all the time in dungeons anyway. I think the movement speed decrease while attacking is a worthwhile trade off for dungeons.

Hey Mao, at what point do you just stop replacing your gear and stick with what you have? There's a lot of "better" equipment in your inventory, but you don't seem to use them. Is it due to the sub benefits such as cooldown reduction or increased beneficial duration? I'm still currently around paragon 154 so I'm always replacing my gear, so ig when do I come to a stop or slow it down?
It generally good to have 3 slightly different sets of gear: PvE farming, PvP and Highest combat rating Assuming you reach server paragon level for Legendary gear, combat rating goes up as you level up so you will generally be replacing these every 2-4 weeks depending on how much you farm. Green gear combat rating goes up when you reach paragon for a new difficulty so you will be replacing this every 10-12 weeks As you correctly guessed lot of the time combat rating is not the only important stat. Once you have enough combat rating, it is generally better to go for more beneficial magic attributes or stats that your build needs Generally as you're levelling up until server paragon I would always recommend to go for higher combat rating items as this will help you push to clear higher raids/challenge rifts and also to push farming in higher difficulties

@@pizzko yes exactly, just to be clear the different sets of gear might not be completely different, there will likely be some overlap. As you level and get closer to server paragon you will get a better feel of the stats and magic attributes you want for your build
Excellent builds - have you noticed with rolling there is a speed decrease once you start attacking with rolling - it’s pretty noticeable. Have you looked into a no primary farming build with 4 issitar, windwalk shoulders plus vortex chest with some dash skills for 2 gloom and/or zephyr generation. I think it might be superior as far as speed goes for open world. Thx for all you do! (Assuming clandestine) - otherwise wind walk shoulders with cascade helmet and chest for the 40% move buff
@@Meeks00-DiabloImmortal Yes, it does feel slower. I usually stop holding attack when there are no mobs around. Tbh I don't think I've tried the exact build you're talking about. I do remember testing the cascade chest with 40% speed when tempest was first released and I wasn't too impressed so I haven't touched it since then. No primary does sound interesting if you have a build link I'd love to give it a try! I would guess Clandestine works really well for both builds as neither gets to 70% movement by itself

@@Mao_DIbro I came here to review this video and comment on this now that I chose skein-partner from my second trial chest. It states in the skill description that movement speed decreases by 25% while attacking, which is a significant drawback imho. Meanwhile, your old farming build is still working great for me. Everyone was complaining about how op skein-parter was, and nobody mentioned this significant tradeoff. Assuming it still out-dpses flooded stream, I’ll probably use it for raids and vanguard, but keep flooded stream for most other content.
Finally and is looking good 👍 Will test it out today and let you know how it performs for an average player without powerful eternal affixes. 😅 Farming the eternal affixes is real challenge, did 20 oblivion pillars last week, and I didn’t receive anything good, same for the 2 guaranteed eternal items you get per week, so annoying. The rng hates me. 😂
Tried your build and it is doing 10m more damage for me per minute compared to what I have been running, the problem is I don’t have the affix for flowing strike shield yet 🤧😅
I'm getting the same DPS between the squall empowered essence you suggest vs habo's build. I'm using 4pc gloom though, and i also make sure to stack all 3 squall buffs asap. I think if i had 4pc grace, using the squall essence that buffs would be better. 3k reso with roiling and Mother's, so maybe gloom is too redundant. I always appreciate your builds and thoughts around the game though, so cheers.
Thanks! Both builds are very similar just a little different mechanic. Give 4pc grace a tr, sounds like it should improve your damage! Also make sure you stay close to the dummy at least at the moment you cast squall

Generally for most builds critical hit chance is most important but I wouldn't worry about optimising gear so much as you will be getting upgrades all the time until you start getting close to server paragon. Once you reach paragon 600+ you can start focusing more on good rolls
Something that I’ve always thought, isn’t it better to use the cascade chest that debuffs boss to take 40% more crit dmg (or whatever it is) that applies to all 8 raid members dmg vs individual dps - seems it would be a net gain to total dmg done on the boss
It all depends on your group composition. If you have some heavy damage dealers in your group then it would definitely be more beneficial to go for that especially if you are struggling to clear the Raid. This would be really important to optimise in Gauntlet and is something that I have included in my build there
Hey Mao! Thank you for the builds... I as well have a simular build for my girl! I know that this is going to be a little off topic here, but .... when I save my stuff in the armory, it doesn't seem to work all that well. Ill have a few items that have a red ! in there... very annoying. Also, (im a f2p player) and had NO clue on this for 2 months of playing with it, UNTIL i got fed up, and found some of you guys. With that being said, I still have questions... RES on my person is at a 540, and I cant seem to get the gems up there. Can you make a 2 star gem go higher? HOW do you get a 5 star to go completely 5 star.... (sorry...lots of questions) Thank you again Mao, you are one of my favs!
Welcome to the game! I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. There are 2 parts a legendary gem star count and rank. For all gems they are able to go to a maximum of rank 10 but in terms of upgrade cost 1-star is the easiest to upgrade (over time you can expect to get these to rank 8-10 as a F2P Player), 2-star gems are much more challenging to upgrade compared to 1-star (for a F2P player getting them past rank 5 is very difficult) and finally 5-star gems are the most challenging to upgrade (You can expect to get them to rank 2 or maybe 3 as a F2P player). The cost to upgrade for all gems will always be gem power and duplicates of the same gem. For upgrading from low ranks for e.g. rank 1 -> rank 2 it will only cost you gem power at first. For a full list of upgrade cost for each gem I would suggest you check out this: di-tools.info/legendaryGems it will make things a lot easier to explain. To obtain gem power you can salvage any gem that you don't want to use in your setup 1-star gems give 1 gem power when salvaged, 2-stars give 4 and finally 5-stars give 32. As for duplicates of the gem it is prety self explanatory you just need more copies of the same gem you are trying to rank up (for higher ranks you will even need to rank up those copies themselves) Now we can move on to talk about star count. For 1 and 2-star gems star count is fixed meaning they will always be at the star count that you find them. For 5-star gems they can roll randomly as 2/5, 3/5, 4/5 and 5/5. Getting a higher star count for 5-star gems will give you improved resonance and combat rating values as you upgrade the gem. The gem effect is always the same though and only improves depends on gem anking rather than star count. If for example you are using a 2/5 gem and in the future you drop or buy from the market a higher star count of the same gem then you can use that gem as a duplicate in the upgrade process and once you get your gem to rank up the star count will be updated to the same star count as the dupe you used For a F2P I would suggest you stick with mostly 1-star and 2-star gems. They might have lower resonance and combat rating but they are easier to upgrade to a higher rank and very often a lot of them will actually have better effects than 5-star gems. I've recommended a few good 1 and 2-star gems in this video. The only 5-star gems I could recommend as a F2P player to use/upgrade could be Blood-Soaked Jade and Roiling Consequence. These 2 gems have an incredibly good effect even if you are not able to rank them up Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions. I really recommend you to check the website I linked. The system can be a bit confusing at the start but you will quickly get the hang of it

I do have Rolling consequence on, which is a 2 star right now, and I have all that i could doing a aux gem as well, becuase I was told that it would help in the long run. I was pretty lucky getting the lightening core up to rank 5 the other day and working on command and power as well. With all of that being said... thank you so very much for your comment and help! The next turleic (sorry about the mis-spelling) perl that I get, ill go for the blood soaked jade and see what I can do with that one. Im also trying very hard, about getting the stuff awakened as well... I need to farm at least 2 hours a day, so that's what I am "working" on when I can play, which I do play 2 times a day. What is your thought on replacing wind walk with the shoulder cdr essence until you get enough skill cooldown and beneficial effect? Also have you tried breaker instead of flowing strike it allows you to give up attack speed from pants for a shield
Use main hand shreikworth (crosswind 4 crit hit) instead of squal empowered, and see magic 😀 also on top focus on crit chance in all items , 4 pice vithu - skill coooldowns , 4 piece gloom boom you are furiously maximum damage machine
@ nah bro, with 2 dash 6 & 4 sec cooldowns also having max as possible beneficial effects, gloom has better opportunity to land crit and damage on dash builds, i have tried all other sets on this build, except gloom everything else is dropping about 1M,

Oh thanks for the video i love this build although im still a newbie lvl 200 at hell 2 f2p im min maxing it slowly. I still dont have the main weapon essences. And im struggling with rolling surf cooldowns even tho im using merchant essence for chest.. do you have any suggestions or tips for min maxing the build?
@@J37ACK Hey, for now I would go for the flooded stream mainhand and merchant scale chest essences like you did. I would focus mainly on levelling rather than min-maxing as you will replace pretty much all your great as you unlock Inferno 1/2. Some small thing you can try to min-max getting at least 2pc vithus in dungeons as this will make playing a lot smoother. Also if you have reforge stones you can try roll beneficial effect duration of any other useful reforge on your legendary gear. The good thing about reforges is they can always be transferred as you upgrade your gear Once you get to p400 and unlock Inferno 2 you will have access to skein parter mainhand essence which will make achieving 100% uptime of surf a little easier. At that point you can start focusing more on min-maxing and looking for the correct magic attributes on your gear like crit hit chance, cooldown reduction, beneficial effect duration and movement speed. Thanks alot yes thats true im just collecting the main essences and main 2 star gems i been enjoying it alot it does tones of dmg even at this point nothing deep i have the sets also but thats all about it cuz everything is gonna change later on :) thank for the build
All looks good on paper but actually farming all those affixes is starting to be real problem. Especially for tempest, where you need FS eternal for PvP, probably Rolling Surf Eternal for PvE and now those clandestine/rush stuff.
Agreed! I wouldn't recommend going full 4/4 on the new affixes unless you are really confident with your damage. If you can get 1 or 2 pieces it is sufficient and you will feel the difference especially with Clandestine/Rush. For PvP if Flowing strike is part of your build then for sure 4/4 Flowing strike eternal for extra shield is the real priority over everything else imo!
Nice build, but what if you gear is not at 30? I have seen a lot of Tempest builds and everybody is 30 on all equipment. Are you needing to drop money? F2P player and guessing will have to grind a hot minute to get to that level. I mean I am 470 and CR is 36.8k and still cant hang in Info 2. Great video tho and like the build :)
@@nuthin2sumthin474welcome to the game! This is a common misconception, gear ranks are probably one of the only non p2w things in this game. You cannot directly pay to speed this process up. To get them faster you need to spend time farming and salvaging. Since I have been playing the game since release and farm a little more than the average player I have had level 30 items for more than a year. Secondly let's talk about what gear ranks actually give. They give a few extra points to mainstat in my case strength and a frew points to vitality and a little bit of combat rating. In the grand scheme of things this will do almost nothing for your build. If you are under combat rating then it is a nice to have but as far as directly improving or making your build more viable gear ranks serve almost no purpose at all. Because of this I have not mentioned them at all in this build guide and I have rarely seen anyone talking about them in a build guide specifically As a new player it is pretty easy to think they are very important and don't get me wrong, especially if your are f2p all extra sources of combat rating are important so I can see why players make this connection. Hope my explanation makes sense

Amazing build, i tested it but im doing half your damage with similar stats and gear. I dont understand why so much difference. The only really different thing is the pet, i dont have yours with that legendary affixes. Could that be the main reason?
Yes, pet has around 9s uptime of 35% damage every 20s so we can say its up 50% of the time (if you use a broodtalon or skitterwright). This means roughly 17.5% total damage (legendary) vs 8% increase (for rare). Other big factors which many people overlook could be how high your crit chance is and also selecting attacker warband room. Of course are many other factors that go into calculating damage but these are some main points
Somehow for me crosswinds and rolling surf deals the same dps. In total I get 3mil dps at first, after minute it comes around to 1.3 mil. Suggestions from the pro? Thanks!

Another question - I haven’t seen anyone use blade dance eternal 4/4 (32% crit chance) plus blade dance wep (19% crit chance) for 51% crit chance in any builds. Would be easy to get to close to 100% with crit chance on gear plus rolling plus attack WB room plus attack stance - can drop mothers since it’s not extended by Ben effect and get a dmg gem
Yes, It could be a good option. Blade dance and Stormfury eternal properties are pretty strong. I don't have 4/4 but I tried making a build with 1/4 or 2/4 of those pieces but the result wasn't as impressive as I'd hoped. With 4/4 there may be potential to go even higher though
@@Mao_DI now that I am thinking of it, 51% blade dance. 10% attack stance, 10% WB room, that only leaves 30% to get from gear or other places like Zerker eye or whatever to have 100% crit, 100% uptime (with the 2 blade dance essence) with no rolling or mothers needed. Need a burn from somewhere else for a firestorm tho
@@Mao_DI I tried an alternate dungeon / t rift build - put the vid up on my UA-cam - it’s pretty effective, 100% uptime 4 vithu, 2 gloom, 2 boe, 30% dmg from harbinger, 20% crit from harbinger and 3 zephyrs. 4/4 storm eternal and storm pants.

Tempest has many good options and the good thing is most of them maintain dps so it comes down to the playstyle you prefer Some players prefer not to rely on zephyrs so much and instead go for a vortex/stormfury combo which is another popular build that does great damage with the vortex armor break shoulders and attack speed offhand. I use a similar build to that for vanguard
@@Mao_DI yup, I’ve used that build a bunch too. Have done all my vanguards on sader so will be trying first soon on tempest. Can’t decide whether to use vortex for cc / armor break or this build with 4 pc end winter for freeze cc (chills are constant from me and zephyrs with affix re primary attack reduces move speed etc) might get more dps out of this build and just rely on boomerangs everywhere from me and zephyrs freezing everything. I’m to point where survivability is really less of concern w charm rank. Are you on any discord ?
Yes, works great for any daily activity! If you feel like you need a bit more damage then go for the Dungeon build instead. It would also work decently for dailies or even OW it will just have a bit less mobility

Decent especially if you have gems that apply continual effects! Most optimal for damage would be 4 piece gloom if you don't have high crit from gems or 4 piece grace if you have high crit from gems. Tbh though you can't go wrong with 4 vithu + any combination of gloom/grace/banquet/shalbaas with decent secondary attributes like CDR/Beneficial Effect/Movement Speed
@@TimMarkovic I haven't tested with this specific interaction in mind but I have tested similar interactions like this in the past. As far as I know only the highest armor break applies at any given time. Lingering wounds doesn't have 100% uptime so having an armor break yourself is still worthwhile. The squall armour break takes a little time to reach its maximum potential but it still performs very well from the tests which I ran Happy if someone can correct me if I'm wrong about this!
Yes skein-parter got a small balance change (nerf): "Skein-Parter (Rolling Surf) Maximum number of water daggers reduced from 7 to 4 due to performance impact it was causing. To compensate, damage of each water dagger increased by 75%." It still has decent damage and is worth using even after the nerf but expect ~10% less damage overall
you can do 4- 2pc sets choosing the sets that do dmg. not much difference long as you have any properties active. I think youd get close to 500 with build, whale got 800+
DoTs are still generally strong in PvP for all classes. It depends on the build that you play and if you pair it with decent potency and/or baron's set. Should work pretty well then!

@georgekres2119 try to pick it as loyalty bonus in the essence transfer NPC. Also if you check the essence transfer Npc check the mainhand tab and scroll till you see it. There it tells you the difficulty where it drops. Even if you can't play that difficulty yet I think you can still select it as loyalty though
Hi Mao, my pet doesnt hit dummy, i can see yours doing it. Can you explain how you did it? Its very irritating mine doesnt attack with lingering wounds
@@azn1g Yes it's a bug that exists for months. Here's how to get around it: Enter dummy area and position yourself next to the npc then press your portrait and press leave game. Now press enter game and when you load it will work as expected. You need to do this every time you re-enter the dummy area
@@VictorDraghiciu When you equip thousand dooms the behaviour changes a bit because squall is no longer a dash. To apply the mark as well as thousand effect you need to dash through the enemies. This can be achieved with another dash skill (flowing strike in this case). Once you activate squall, dash through enemies and you will see the white mark then. Sorry if this wasn't clear in the video

@@Mao_DII was going to comment exactly this. IMHO extra charge is clearly superior, because it has a 3.6% mastery and 10% awakened cd reduction anyway, and waverider pants grant another 7.2% + 10%, so you’ll exceed the 30% cd reduction cap for breaker without even requiring any base cd reduction. I just took the #1 spot against another solo clan for an accursed tower with your latest farming build with this tweak! Btw do you see any good essences from the last 2 releases for either PvE or PvP? Though you might think it’s hard to improve on your farming build, we’ve established that skeinparter slows you down while primary attacking (technically I believe its movement speed buff falls from 35% to 10%), and there are some passive aoe essences, including the popular original cascade chest, another essence (helm?) you used in your trial of hordes build, and at least one newer one. There are also some newer lightning essences, and I wonder how good any of them could be with a source of shock. Finally, a much lower reso tempest beat me in a duel with base windwalk, and at least one of his PvP builds includes the wind walk cd reduction helm.
Which legendary gems are you using? Reso as a number is important but it is not everything when it comes to raw damage (especially if you are comparing 1-2k reso difference). The effects provided by the legendary gems themselves as well as you character stats for attributes like Critical hit chance, Cooldown & Beneficial effect duration will make a huge difference on your damage output. I don't recommend you start by directly comparing to me. Start making 1 or 2 small changes of your gear or gem setup and check the results against your previous best. I have recommended many great 1 or 2-star gems with good effects in the gem section of this video which might help you
@@Mao_DI im using r5 pain clasp, r5 mother's lament, r5 viper's bite, r2 wulfheort, r2 voidspark, r2 roiling consequence, r3 starfire shard and r2 maw of the deep
@@me_kevin Starfire and Maw are great gems for PvP but not so much PvE (at least not at low ranks). I would recommend to still keep them as they are valuable. But for a cheap PvE setup I could suggest switching them out for cheap 1-star or 2-star gem at r5 or even lower if you don't have gem power. Try some of the gems I recommended here. You'll be surprised even if you drop your reso a bit your damage may go up. If you don't want to switch out your 5-star gems but have a single copy of BSJ you could use it as an auxiliry as an alternative which should provide a small boost in dmg Also as I mentioned in the video getting the correct magic attributes (especially crit chance) and familiar makes a huge difference to damage!
@@me_kevin Good luck! For the pet you don't need to have a legendary skill one like I have if they are too expensive on your server. I would suggest to check for Broodtalon or Skitterwright with the rare version of lingering wounds skill. On my server they are pretty cheap usually around 1-2k platinum. For PvE it makes a huge difference putting a pet like that as your companion
Sorry the late reply. It's from eternal property gear which you can get by farming in terror rifts or using terror essence for hellslayer bounties/oblivion pillars
@@danielbujak7895this build has good defenses especially if you have 1 or 2 pieces of the following strike eternal affix which gives a shield. For the farm build you can also switch out waverider pants essence to flaring lighthouse for a shield there In general tempest is pretty tanky compared to other classes. If you notice you're dying more than expected it might be because of being under combat rating requirement or too low armor stat
The 2 TIME dps builder says ; You're just now doing dps? You should have watched mine. Youd know Harbinger paragon makes a significant difference in dps total. The dash cooldown. stormfury better especially 4/4 gear.
I mentioned some good 1 and 2* options in this video. I haven't made a video for that specifically. Since there are slight differences to which gems can be usful for every build I usually go over that in every build guide

@@J37ACK aux effect can be used on gems which you've ranked up already but give no use to your build. I don't really recommend bothering with aux for 1 or 2-star gems unless it's a rare case, for example if you ranked up a battleguard or a gem which provides buffs to channeling skills which doesn't help at all for most tempest builds. Aux only provides the rank 1 basic effect while keeping reso and combat rating of your ranked up gem. In the case you really need to do it you can refer to the I mentioned in this video. But if your raked up gem provides at least a little value I wouldn't aux it

@@idontSHT it's from the eternal power for rolling surf that you can get on your legendary gear. As long as you have 1/4 of that on at least 1 piece the blue wave will show with your skein-parter primary attack

I'm using rare runes in every slot except pants (Legendary, LAZ), one of the offhands (Legendary, ZUH) and one of the mainhands (Blue, ECE). Imo the most important rune here are: 1. Offhand slots for Crit chance (ZUH for both) 2. Head/shoulders slots for Beneficial effect duration increase or CDR depending which you need more for 100% uptime of Surf/Crosswinds/Squall (TYR/OTH) 3. Maindhand slots for Movement speed (ECE - only important until you 20% base unbuffed movement speed) 4. Other slots - Whatever other legendary/rare runes you can get your hands on! The new legendary runes with new Dash affixes should work pretty well for Tempest

Can you do a video on how increas movement speed on tempest. It's so hard to keep up with other players on random dungeons because they run so fast 😅 *Edit- never mind it's already in your video 😅
I believe so but the issue is the total increased attack speed won't always show up as you expect in the character sheet stats. You will clearly be able to feel the effect as well as see noticeable damage differences in most cases if you test with/without vithu 4pc bonus. Suggest you to checkout this video especially 2:28. @@redquines3902 They can potentially drop anywhere. The important thing is to farm in the correct difficulty. Some essence can only drop on certain difficulties of higher. If you go to the essence transfer NPC and check any essence you don't have some of them will say a difficultly. For example the mainhand essence I'm using Skein-Parter will say Inferno III. this means it will only have a chance to drop when farming on Inferno 3 or higher. If you haven't unlocked a certain difficulty yet they I would suggest to substitute out those essence for something else until then. Good luck
@redquines3902 you need to spend 80 paragon points per legendary skill to unlock it. Once unlocked you can choose only 1 skill to activate at a time. While they are unlocked but not active you will get the bonus stats from them like like and damage but they the effect active

I used breaker instead, and used the shoulders for lower CD. This allowed me to get the full benefit from the squall MH, and I had 6 stacks the entire time until I didn’t use Breaker. I sustained 5M with this setup, Flowing Strike sustained 3.8M
You mean the essence name? Depends on which build you mean. I went through all in the video. For the dungeon build second mainhand is shreikworth and second offhand is hurricane hitch
@@jerickjamili5201 you need to have at least 1 gear piece with the rolling surf eternal affix. It gives a nice bonus but it's not required for the build to function
Potato PC! You should have seen it when I tried to test some builds with Stormfury my game literally turned to a .jpg 😂 I kinda agree with what you said about resonance. We have to remember though that for "smaller rezo" builds a lot of them also utilise 5-star gems and not just 1 or 2-stars. Those 5-star gems always perform better at Rank 10. When you have enough of these to Rank 10. At that point I'm sure a few people would say you are no longer "smaller rezo". With that said, as I mentioned in this video, lower resonance players with optimised setups can push extremely high damage with a build like this. The key is trying your best to optimise each detail regardless of your resonance bracket 💪
This build makes you so slow tbh in dungeons dps wont matter if you dont catch up with the rest of the party, this will effects raid too, i'd always use the rolling surfs high movespeed legendary, i even struggle to catch up with a DH against, barbs,crus or mages, cant even imagine tempest with this build
@@krakerkraker11 Check 16:00 this part is important to get you to 70% move speed. Without this tempest is always going to be feel slower compared to the classes you mentioned regardless of which build you use. With those affixes and all the dashes you should be able to catch up
Yes sure they can. I went over some great 2-star and 1-star gem alternatives. They might work even better than some 5-stars. The important thing is to follow the correct magic attributes for the build and take the time to test it

@@yourlocalavgeek72 Not always. Awakening provides either 10% damage or 10% cooldown for a specific skill based off the essence that you choose. Skill cooldown is capped at 30% so after a while cooldown awakenings won't be so important. As for damage awakenings, if the skill getting 10% damage increase is not one of the main damage dealers for the build then it won't provide such a huge boost in damage. For this specific build since zephyrs and rolling surf do the most damage having awakening on the rolling surf essence which give 10% damage would increase your overall dps. So that would be the helmet and the mainhand. You can focus on these first. Of course if you feel you need cooldown instead then your can take a different essence. I believe You can check what bonus awakenings give for each essence before you awaken it at wowhead. Hope this helps
Another question - I haven’t seen anyone use blade dance eternal 4/4 (32% crit chance) plus blade dance wep (19% crit chance) for 51% crit chance in any builds. Would be easy to get to close to 100% with crit chance on gear plus rolling plus attack WB room plus attack stance - can drop mothers since it’s not extended by Ben effect and get a dmg gem

Ok I’ve locked in your new raid and dungeon builds. As for your new farming build, I prefer to primary attack the whole time and not be slowed down, so I think I’ll prefer flooded stream there.
Also, I prefer flaring lighthouse pants, since they have a lower cooldown than waverider. I don’t need the knock back in pve, but the shield could come in handy in tougher content.
I’ll run some dungeons and let you know my impressions. I’m excited!

First impressions: your new dungeon build is sick, and I don’t need to primary all the time in dungeons anyway. I think the movement speed decrease while attacking is a worthwhile trade off for dungeons.

Hey Mao, at what point do you just stop replacing your gear and stick with what you have? There's a lot of "better" equipment in your inventory, but you don't seem to use them. Is it due to the sub benefits such as cooldown reduction or increased beneficial duration? I'm still currently around paragon 154 so I'm always replacing my gear, so ig when do I come to a stop or slow it down?
It generally good to have 3 slightly different sets of gear: PvE farming, PvP and Highest combat rating
Assuming you reach server paragon level for Legendary gear, combat rating goes up as you level up so you will generally be replacing these every 2-4 weeks depending on how much you farm. Green gear combat rating goes up when you reach paragon for a new difficulty so you will be replacing this every 10-12 weeks
As you correctly guessed lot of the time combat rating is not the only important stat. Once you have enough combat rating, it is generally better to go for more beneficial magic attributes or stats that your build needs
Generally as you're levelling up until server paragon I would always recommend to go for higher combat rating items as this will help you push to clear higher raids/challenge rifts and also to push farming in higher difficulties

@@pizzko yes exactly, just to be clear the different sets of gear might not be completely different, there will likely be some overlap. As you level and get closer to server paragon you will get a better feel of the stats and magic attributes you want for your build
Excellent builds - have you noticed with rolling there is a speed decrease once you start attacking with rolling - it’s pretty noticeable. Have you looked into a no primary farming build with 4 issitar, windwalk shoulders plus vortex chest with some dash skills for 2 gloom and/or zephyr generation. I think it might be superior as far as speed goes for open world. Thx for all you do! (Assuming clandestine) - otherwise wind walk shoulders with cascade helmet and chest for the 40% move buff
@@Meeks00-DiabloImmortal Yes, it does feel slower. I usually stop holding attack when there are no mobs around. Tbh I don't think I've tried the exact build you're talking about. I do remember testing the cascade chest with 40% speed when tempest was first released and I wasn't too impressed so I haven't touched it since then. No primary does sound interesting if you have a build link I'd love to give it a try! I would guess Clandestine works really well for both builds as neither gets to 70% movement by itself

@@Mao_DIbro I came here to review this video and comment on this now that I chose skein-partner from my second trial chest. It states in the skill description that movement speed decreases by 25% while attacking, which is a significant drawback imho. Meanwhile, your old farming build is still working great for me.
Everyone was complaining about how op skein-parter was, and nobody mentioned this significant tradeoff. Assuming it still out-dpses flooded stream, I’ll probably use it for raids and vanguard, but keep flooded stream for most other content.

Finally and is looking good 👍 Will test it out today and let you know how it performs for an average player without powerful eternal affixes. 😅 Farming the eternal affixes is real challenge, did 20 oblivion pillars last week, and I didn’t receive anything good, same for the 2 guaranteed eternal items you get per week, so annoying. The rng hates me. 😂
Tried your build and it is doing 10m more damage for me per minute compared to what I have been running, the problem is I don’t have the affix for flowing strike shield yet 🤧😅
I'm getting the same DPS between the squall empowered essence you suggest vs habo's build. I'm using 4pc gloom though, and i also make sure to stack all 3 squall buffs asap. I think if i had 4pc grace, using the squall essence that buffs would be better. 3k reso with roiling and Mother's, so maybe gloom is too redundant.

Thanks! Both builds are very similar just a little different mechanic. Give 4pc grace a tr, sounds like it should improve your damage! Also make sure you stay close to the dummy at least at the moment you cast squall

Generally for most builds critical hit chance is most important but I wouldn't worry about optimising gear so much as you will be getting upgrades all the time until you start getting close to server paragon. Once you reach paragon 600+ you can start focusing more on good rolls
Something that I’ve always thought, isn’t it better to use the cascade chest that debuffs boss to take 40% more crit dmg (or whatever it is) that applies to all 8 raid members dmg vs individual dps - seems it would be a net gain to total dmg done on the boss
It all depends on your group composition. If you have some heavy damage dealers in your group then it would definitely be more beneficial to go for that especially if you are struggling to clear the Raid.
This would be really important to optimise in Gauntlet and is something that I have included in my build there
Hey Mao! Thank you for the builds... I as well have a simular build for my girl! I know that this is going to be a little off topic here, but .... when I save my stuff in the armory, it doesn't seem to work all that well. Ill have a few items that have a red ! in there... very annoying. Also, (im a f2p player) and had NO clue on this for 2 months of playing with it, UNTIL i got fed up, and found some of you guys. With that being said, I still have questions... RES on my person is at a 540, and I cant seem to get the gems up there. Can you make a 2 star gem go higher? HOW do you get a 5 star to go completely 5 star.... (sorry...lots of questions)

Welcome to the game! I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. There are 2 parts a legendary gem star count and rank. For all gems they are able to go to a maximum of rank 10 but in terms of upgrade cost 1-star is the easiest to upgrade (over time you can expect to get these to rank 8-10 as a F2P Player), 2-star gems are much more challenging to upgrade compared to 1-star (for a F2P player getting them past rank 5 is very difficult) and finally 5-star gems are the most challenging to upgrade (You can expect to get them to rank 2 or maybe 3 as a F2P player). The cost to upgrade for all gems will always be gem power and duplicates of the same gem. For upgrading from low ranks for e.g. rank 1 -> rank 2 it will only cost you gem power at first. For a full list of upgrade cost for each gem I would suggest you check out this: di-tools.info/legendaryGems it will make things a lot easier to explain. To obtain gem power you can salvage any gem that you don't want to use in your setup 1-star gems give 1 gem power when salvaged, 2-stars give 4 and finally 5-stars give 32. As for duplicates of the gem it is prety self explanatory you just need more copies of the same gem you are trying to rank up (for higher ranks you will even need to rank up those copies themselves)
Now we can move on to talk about star count. For 1 and 2-star gems star count is fixed meaning they will always be at the star count that you find them. For 5-star gems they can roll randomly as 2/5, 3/5, 4/5 and 5/5. Getting a higher star count for 5-star gems will give you improved resonance and combat rating values as you upgrade the gem. The gem effect is always the same though and only improves depends on gem anking rather than star count. If for example you are using a 2/5 gem and in the future you drop or buy from the market a higher star count of the same gem then you can use that gem as a duplicate in the upgrade process and once you get your gem to rank up the star count will be updated to the same star count as the dupe you used
For a F2P I would suggest you stick with mostly 1-star and 2-star gems. They might have lower resonance and combat rating but they are easier to upgrade to a higher rank and very often a lot of them will actually have better effects than 5-star gems. I've recommended a few good 1 and 2-star gems in this video. The only 5-star gems I could recommend as a F2P player to use/upgrade could be Blood-Soaked Jade and Roiling Consequence. These 2 gems have an incredibly good effect even if you are not able to rank them up

I do have Rolling consequence on, which is a 2 star right now, and I have all that i could doing a aux gem as well, becuase I was told that it would help in the long run. I was pretty lucky getting the lightening core up to rank 5 the other day and working on command and power as well. With all of that being said... thank you so very much for your comment and help! The next turleic (sorry about the mis-spelling) perl that I get, ill go for the blood soaked jade and see what I can do with that one. Im also trying very hard, about getting the stuff awakened as well... I need to farm at least 2 hours a day, so that's what I am "working" on when I can play, which I do play 2 times a day. You are a gem and I would give you 10 stars!
What is your thought on replacing wind walk with the shoulder cdr essence until you get enough skill cooldown and beneficial effect? Also have you tried breaker instead of flowing strike it allows you to give up attack speed from pants for a shield

Gloom sucks because its heavily diminished. What you read and get are two different things. 4 grace and 4 vithus is best.
@ nah bro, with 2 dash 6 & 4 sec cooldowns also having max as possible beneficial effects, gloom has better opportunity to land crit and damage on dash builds, i have tried all other sets on this build, except gloom everything else is dropping about 1M,

@@J37ACK Hey, for now I would go for the flooded stream mainhand and merchant scale chest essences like you did. I would focus mainly on levelling rather than min-maxing as you will replace pretty much all your great as you unlock Inferno 1/2. Some small thing you can try to min-max getting at least 2pc vithus in dungeons as this will make playing a lot smoother. Also if you have reforge stones you can try roll beneficial effect duration of any other useful reforge on your legendary gear. The good thing about reforges is they can always be transferred as you upgrade your gear
Once you get to p400 and unlock Inferno 2 you will have access to skein parter mainhand essence which will make achieving 100% uptime of surf a little easier. At that point you can start focusing more on min-maxing and looking for the correct magic attributes on your gear like crit hit chance, cooldown reduction, beneficial effect duration and movement speed. All looks good on paper but actually farming all those affixes is starting to be real problem. Especially for tempest, where you need FS eternal for PvP, probably Rolling Surf Eternal for PvE and now those clandestine/rush stuff.
Agreed! I wouldn't recommend going full 4/4 on the new affixes unless you are really confident with your damage. If you can get 1 or 2 pieces it is sufficient and you will feel the difference especially with Clandestine/Rush. For PvP if Flowing strike is part of your build then for sure 4/4 Flowing strike eternal for extra shield is the real priority over everything else imo!

Nice build, but what if you gear is not at 30? I have seen a lot of Tempest builds and everybody is 30 on all equipment. Are you needing to drop money? F2P player and guessing will have to grind a hot minute to get to that level. I mean I am 470 and CR is 36.8k and still cant hang in Info 2. Great video tho and like the build :)

This is a common misconception, gear ranks are probably one of the only non p2w things in this game. You cannot directly pay to speed this process up. To get them faster you need to spend time farming and salvaging. Since I have been playing the game since release and farm a little more than the average player I have had level 30 items for more than a year.
Secondly let's talk about what gear ranks actually give. They give a few extra points to mainstat in my case strength and a frew points to vitality and a little bit of combat rating. In the grand scheme of things this will do almost nothing for your build. If you are under combat rating then it is a nice to have but as far as directly improving or making your build more viable gear ranks serve almost no purpose at all. Because of this I have not mentioned them at all in this build guide and I have rarely seen anyone talking about them in a build guide specifically
As a new player it is pretty easy to think they are very important and don't get me wrong, especially if your are f2p all extra sources of combat rating are important so I can see why players make this connection. Hope my explanation makes sense

Also, My wife and I just play and we have a little clan, so warband and things like that is something we need to work. We played for about 2 years like 3 years ago and quit due to other things.

Amazing build, i tested it but im doing half your damage with similar stats and gear. I dont understand why so much difference. The only really different thing is the pet, i dont have yours with that legendary affixes. Could that be the main reason?
Yes, pet has around 9s uptime of 35% damage every 20s so we can say its up 50% of the time (if you use a broodtalon or skitterwright). This means roughly 17.5% total damage (legendary) vs 8% increase (for rare). Other big factors which many people overlook could be how high your crit chance is and also selecting attacker warband room. Of course are many other factors that go into calculating damage but these are some main points

Yes, It could be a good option. Blade dance and Stormfury eternal properties are pretty strong. I don't have 4/4 but I tried making a build with 1/4 or 2/4 of those pieces but the result wasn't as impressive as I'd hoped. With 4/4 there may be potential to go even higher though
@@Mao_DI now that I am thinking of it, 51% blade dance. 10% attack stance, 10% WB room, that only leaves 30% to get from gear or other places like Zerker eye or whatever to have 100% crit, 100% uptime (with the 2 blade dance essence) with no rolling or mothers needed. Need a burn from somewhere else for a firestorm tho
@@Mao_DI I tried an alternate dungeon / t rift build - put the vid up on my UA-cam - it’s pretty effective, 100% uptime 4 vithu, 2 gloom, 2 boe, 30% dmg from harbinger, 20% crit from harbinger and 3 zephyrs. 4/4 storm eternal and storm pants.

Some players prefer not to rely on zephyrs so much and instead go for a vortex/stormfury combo which is another popular build that does great damage with the vortex armor break shoulders and attack speed offhand. I use a similar build to that for vanguard
@@Mao_DI yup, I’ve used that build a bunch too. Have done all my vanguards on sader so will be trying first soon on tempest. Can’t decide whether to use vortex for cc / armor break or this build with 4 pc end winter for freeze cc (chills are constant from me and zephyrs with affix re primary attack reduces move speed etc) might get more dps out of this build and just rely on boomerangs everywhere from me and zephyrs freezing everything. I’m to point where survivability is really less of concern w charm rank. Are you on any discord ?

Yes, works great for any daily activity! If you feel like you need a bit more damage then go for the Dungeon build instead. It would also work decently for dailies or even OW it will just have a bit less mobility

The only thing I missed was talking about runes (they weren't released when I made the video) which are a good source of CDR/Beneficial in the Shoulder/Head slots
@@Mao_DI I think it’s the duration reforge bonus. I have four pieces that are 2.0% the other four are 3.0%. Need to reforge them higher.
Higher resonance also keep glass cannon class alive longer until target killed when solo dungeon. Especially when the treasure goblin boss spawn😅

Decent especially if you have gems that apply continual effects! Most optimal for damage would be 4 piece gloom if you don't have high crit from gems or 4 piece grace if you have high crit from gems. Tbh though you can't go wrong with 4 vithu + any combination of gloom/grace/banquet/shalbaas with decent secondary attributes like CDR/Beneficial Effect/Movement Speed

@@TimMarkovic I haven't tested with this specific interaction in mind but I have tested similar interactions like this in the past. As far as I know only the highest armor break applies at any given time. Lingering wounds doesn't have 100% uptime so having an armor break yourself is still worthwhile. The squall armour break takes a little time to reach its maximum potential but it still performs very well from the tests which I ran

Yes skein-parter got a small balance change (nerf):
"Skein-Parter (Rolling Surf)
Maximum number of water daggers reduced from 7 to 4 due to performance impact it was causing. To compensate, damage of each water dagger increased by 75%."
It still has decent damage and is worth using even after the nerf but expect ~10% less damage overall

you can do 4- 2pc sets choosing the sets that do dmg. not much difference long as you have any properties active. I think youd get close to 500 with build, whale got 800+

DoTs are still generally strong in PvP for all classes. It depends on the build that you play and if you pair it with decent potency and/or baron's set. Should work pretty well then!
For a proper dot build you have to sacrifice 2 vitus sets for baron 😅

@georgekres2119 try to pick it as loyalty bonus in the essence transfer NPC. Also if you check the essence transfer Npc check the mainhand tab and scroll till you see it. There it tells you the difficulty where it drops. Even if you can't play that difficulty yet I think you can still select it as loyalty though

@@azn1g Yes it's a bug that exists for months. Here's how to get around it:
Enter dummy area and position yourself next to the npc then press your portrait and press leave game. Now press enter game and when you load it will work as expected. You need to do this every time you re-enter the dummy area
Have u really tested that helm essence still work when u change squall with thousand dooms??i don see any mark or the extra dmg after 3 secs...
@@VictorDraghiciu When you equip thousand dooms the behaviour changes a bit because squall is no longer a dash. To apply the mark as well as thousand effect you need to dash through the enemies. This can be achieved with another dash skill (flowing strike in this case). Once you activate squall, dash through enemies and you will see the white mark then. Sorry if this wasn't clear in the video

@@Mao_DII was going to comment exactly this. IMHO extra charge is clearly superior, because it has a 3.6% mastery and 10% awakened cd reduction anyway, and waverider pants grant another 7.2% + 10%, so you’ll exceed the 30% cd reduction cap for breaker without even requiring any base cd reduction.
I just took the #1 spot against another solo clan for an accursed tower with your latest farming build with this tweak!
Btw do you see any good essences from the last 2 releases for either PvE or PvP? Though you might think it’s hard to improve on your farming build, we’ve established that skeinparter slows you down while primary attacking (technically I believe its movement speed buff falls from 35% to 10%), and there are some passive aoe essences, including the popular original cascade chest, another essence (helm?) you used in your trial of hordes build, and at least one newer one. There are also some newer lightning essences, and I wonder how good any of them could be with a source of shock. Finally, a much lower reso tempest beat me in a duel with base windwalk, and at least one of his PvP builds includes the wind walk cd reduction helm.
im a f2p 1k reso player, im struggling to do the same damage as you do, i have 2.8k armor pen at the moment.
Which legendary gems are you using? Reso as a number is important but it is not everything when it comes to raw damage (especially if you are comparing 1-2k reso difference). The effects provided by the legendary gems themselves as well as you character stats for attributes like Critical hit chance, Cooldown & Beneficial effect duration will make a huge difference on your damage output. I don't recommend you start by directly comparing to me. Start making 1 or 2 small changes of your gear or gem setup and check the results against your previous best. I have recommended many great 1 or 2-star gems with good effects in the gem section of this video which might help you
@@Mao_DI im using r5 pain clasp, r5 mother's lament, r5 viper's bite, r2 wulfheort, r2 voidspark, r2 roiling consequence, r3 starfire shard and r2 maw of the deep
@@me_kevin Starfire and Maw are great gems for PvP but not so much PvE (at least not at low ranks). I would recommend to still keep them as they are valuable. But for a cheap PvE setup I could suggest switching them out for cheap 1-star or 2-star gem at r5 or even lower if you don't have gem power. Try some of the gems I recommended here. You'll be surprised even if you drop your reso a bit your damage may go up. If you don't want to switch out your 5-star gems but have a single copy of BSJ you could use it as an auxiliry as an alternative which should provide a small boost in dmg
Also as I mentioned in the video getting the correct magic attributes (especially crit chance) and familiar makes a huge difference to damage!

@@me_kevin Good luck! For the pet you don't need to have a legendary skill one like I have if they are too expensive on your server. I would suggest to check for Broodtalon or Skitterwright with the rare version of lingering wounds skill. On my server they are pretty cheap usually around 1-2k platinum. For PvE it makes a huge difference putting a pet like that as your companion

@@danielbujak7895this build has good defenses especially if you have 1 or 2 pieces of the following strike eternal affix which gives a shield. For the farm build you can also switch out waverider pants essence to flaring lighthouse for a shield there
In general tempest is pretty tanky compared to other classes. If you notice you're dying more than expected it might be because of being under combat rating requirement or too low armor stat
The 2 TIME dps builder says ; You're just now doing dps? You should have watched mine. Youd know Harbinger paragon makes a significant difference in dps total. The dash cooldown. stormfury better especially 4/4 gear.

@@J37ACK aux effect can be used on gems which you've ranked up already but give no use to your build. I don't really recommend bothering with aux for 1 or 2-star gems unless it's a rare case, for example if you ranked up a battleguard or a gem which provides buffs to channeling skills which doesn't help at all for most tempest builds. Aux only provides the rank 1 basic effect while keeping reso and combat rating of your ranked up gem. In the case you really need to do it you can refer to the I mentioned in this video. But if your raked up gem provides at least a little value I wouldn't aux it

@@idontSHT it's from the eternal power for rolling surf that you can get on your legendary gear. As long as you have 1/4 of that on at least 1 piece the blue wave will show with your skein-parter primary attack

What runes are you using?
I'm using rare runes in every slot except pants (Legendary, LAZ), one of the offhands (Legendary, ZUH) and one of the mainhands (Blue, ECE). Imo the most important rune here are:
1. Offhand slots for Crit chance (ZUH for both)
2. Head/shoulders slots for Beneficial effect duration increase or CDR depending which you need more for 100% uptime of Surf/Crosswinds/Squall (TYR/OTH)
3. Maindhand slots for Movement speed (ECE - only important until you 20% base unbuffed movement speed)
4. Other slots - Whatever other legendary/rare runes you can get your hands on! The new legendary runes with new Dash affixes should work pretty well for Tempest

Does vithus 4 pc atk speed stacks with legendary gear essences?
I believe so but the issue is the total increased attack speed won't always show up as you expect in the character sheet stats. You will clearly be able to feel the effect as well as see noticeable damage differences in most cases if you test with/without vithu 4pc bonus. Suggest you to checkout this video especially 2:28. @@redquines3902 They can potentially drop anywhere. The important thing is to farm in the correct difficulty. Some essence can only drop on certain difficulties of higher.
If you go to the essence transfer NPC and check any essence you don't have some of them will say a difficultly. For example the mainhand essence I'm using Skein-Parter will say Inferno III. this means it will only have a chance to drop when farming on Inferno 3 or higher. If you haven't unlocked a certain difficulty yet they I would suggest to substitute out those essence for something else until then. Good luck

@redquines3902 you need to spend 80 paragon points per legendary skill to unlock it. Once unlocked you can choose only 1 skill to activate at a time. While they are unlocked but not active you will get the bonus stats from them like like and damage but they the effect active
For me i used the very similar setup for DPS but with wind edge and that did more then when I used rolling serf

If only you could keep those armor breaks stacked. I never saw more than 2, which means mostly you only had 5%.
I used breaker instead, and used the shoulders for lower CD. This allowed me to get the full benefit from the squall MH, and I had 6 stacks the entire time until I didn’t use Breaker.
I sustained 5M with this setup, Flowing Strike sustained 3.8M

You mean the essence name? Depends on which build you mean. I went through all in the video. For the dungeon build second mainhand is shreikworth and second offhand is hurricane hitch

@@jerickjamili5201 you need to have at least 1 gear piece with the rolling surf eternal affix. It gives a nice bonus but it's not required for the build to function

I kinda agree with what you said about resonance. We have to remember though that for "smaller rezo" builds a lot of them also utilise 5-star gems and not just 1 or 2-stars. Those 5-star gems always perform better at Rank 10. When you have enough of these to Rank 10. At that point I'm sure a few people would say you are no longer "smaller rezo". With that said, as I mentioned in this video, lower resonance players with optimised setups can push extremely high damage with a build like this. The key is trying your best to optimise each detail regardless of your resonance bracket 💪

This build makes you so slow tbh in dungeons dps wont matter if you dont catch up with the rest of the party, this will effects raid too, i'd always use the rolling surfs high movespeed legendary, i even struggle to catch up with a DH against, barbs,crus or mages, cant even imagine tempest with this build
@@krakerkraker11 Check 16:00 this part is important to get you to 70% move speed. Without this tempest is always going to be feel slower compared to the classes you mentioned regardless of which build you use. With those affixes and all the dashes you should be able to catch up

Yes sure they can. I went over some great 2-star and 1-star gem alternatives. They might work even better than some 5-stars. The important thing is to follow the correct magic attributes for the build and take the time to test it

@@yourlocalavgeek72 Not always. Awakening provides either 10% damage or 10% cooldown for a specific skill based off the essence that you choose. Skill cooldown is capped at 30% so after a while cooldown awakenings won't be so important. As for damage awakenings, if the skill getting 10% damage increase is not one of the main damage dealers for the build then it won't provide such a huge boost in damage.
For this specific build since zephyrs and rolling surf do the most damage having awakening on the rolling surf essence which give 10% damage would increase your overall dps. So that would be the helmet and the mainhand. You can focus on these first. Of course if you feel you need cooldown instead then your can take a different essence. I believe You can check what bonus awakenings give for each essence before you awaken it at wowhead. Hope this helps

Another question - I haven’t seen anyone use blade dance eternal 4/4 (32% crit chance) plus blade dance wep (19% crit chance) for 51% crit chance in any builds. Would be easy to get to close to 100% with crit chance on gear plus rolling plus attack WB room plus attack stance - can drop mothers since it’s not extended by Ben effect and get a dmg gem
And drop 4 gloom to get 30% more dmg with another combo like 2 boe 2 gloom or 4 issitar
