Major announcement! I will be hosting my very first Netflix Show, called Blown Away which comes out this summer! It’s a competition reality show where 10 glass artist compete for a grand prize with one being eliminated each week! (Release Date: July 12th)
I went up to the Corning Museum of Glass, in up state New York because not only did they contribute to the show in a major way but they also invited me here to do some science experiments inspired by their newest exhibit called New Glass Now.
New Glass Now features 100 of the best pieces of glass art from around the world. The exhibition is actually the outcome of a year long international search where more than 1,400 submissions were considered, so like, we’re about to look at the best of the best
Now one of the pieces immediately spawned an idea for a science experiment and that came from the piece MARS (Mobile Alchemy Research Station) from the artist Lukas Milanak. At first I thought I was just looking at some interpretive art, but then I learned that I was actually looking at a functional hot glass studio that was made from a microwave!! So thank you Lukas for coming up with this concept.

The fact that you can melt glass in microwave blew my mind!!! Did you know this was possible?
Nick Uhas no I had no idea that is so cool
Nick Uhas So this is actually not physically possible because a microwave has a glass plate and it doesn’t melt plus the radiation generated is actually so little. Glass has a melting point of 1600 degrees Celsius and a microwave can only heat up to 100 degrees Celsius
Abby Leonard I think the glass is protected from the micro waves
I've melted glass in a microwave before but not by intent, was still cool when it happened. Specifically this gigantic light bulb the size of a football got so much plasma that the glass started to melt into a puddle
@@abbyleonard3936 note they are using a special crucible and there are different kinds of glass that melt at different temperatures. You can get a glass fusing kit from craft stores to use in the microwave that has a little ceramic kiln like this.
Glass workers: build elaborate contraption to make glass to the temperature hotter than a volcano
Nick: microwave?
And ya I know it wasn’t making glass just melting
Came from David’s vlogs
Like if you did to
CONGRATS on all the new subs from David! Haha
Your content looks thought-provoking..
I'm in!
Hi nick
Another awesome experiment..
I don't now that glass can be mellted in microwave oven..
I like that name glass comet..
Another exciting and interesting experiment...
Thank you nick...🙏👍😊
That's really cool. I'm glad to see others still doing microwave experiments. I've melted glass before when microwaving a light bulb, the plasma instead of popping the bulb would melt the glass and I ended up with glass beads on the microwave plate.
Nick, will you do any more videos with Shayne on Smosh? I loved the series and hope you’ll do more in the future
that's a great question!? I'm not sure, but it would be great to do more vids with them!
You should also see what they can do with Precious Metal clay!
I knew I recognized you from somewhere but couldn't place it, then when you made the BB reference I was like, AHHH!! I knew I've seen this guy somewhere! Haha. I love your channel, it's so great to see you doing such great things so long after the show!
I hope my kids don't see this. Lol
yo nick i always love these videos man can you do something with obsidian next or sometime?
David dobrik Anyone?
low key I’m down for that Netflix vid! HMU when it comes out!
no I didn't know about melting glass in a mw. but, you video will help me restore a glass stopper to and antique vase that the top round portion has been lost to the ages. I need to form a mold by the use of carved bees wax. then use this mw method.
Would it glow if I add glow in the dark paint?
Who came from David Dobrik?
That was AMAZING! And no, I did not know a microwave would melt glass. 👍❤
If you wanna retain Davids traffic, make 4-min edits of your top videos. Just sayn. WOW: you have fun content, but way to long vids..
it's a good idea... we should do this!
@@NickUhas Just cut out all the "BORING!" stuff.. ;)
k magnus
HERE FROM DAVID DOBRIK SOOO HAHAHA
This is so cool! I actually came here because my teacher said that glass can’t melt xD
Cool!
I liked the series. Will there be a second one?
Someone made molten lava in the microwave
So, What is the material used for the coating inside the kiln?
Hi! Can you melt glass down with a microwave kiln to the point you can pour it into a lost wax cast? Thanks!
Coolness
Homie gave you silicosis
Im scared
I went back and watched a bit right before you mentioned that the microwave excited the sodium in the glass that caused it to accelerate and melt additional glass? I'm trying to understand what is the difference between that black glass that was crushed up and just regular glass that you would put in that nothing would happen why is that
Softening point?
I just watch your show and I feel bad for momo
Wow 😮
Kinda fkn cool
What about the old style
- fun!!
Put tinfoil in the microwave next
ohh boy, I think I know what will happen
1600 degrees
Look at the Starrett granite surface plate getting treated like any other countertop.
Lol No one else caught that.
really hope u filmed at david's house!
I hope he replies I came early
sweet!
Huh. I know some other things made of glass that are quite non-reactive…
I can't find your Netflix show
The Cloud Miner it’s called blown away
You should have asked Michael reeves if you could barrow his
Im so happy for you nick
Really?
I need that thing to melt glass
Nick, clever #youcantevict #thehost

Oh please
steve mould actually made a vid about it, you should watch that.
Oh ,so this vid was glass magic in a microwave, not glass melting in a microwave? Got it , cheers.
First to like can i get a shoutout in yoir next video
