Welcome back, Cindy! What a great tour. And you're off to a great start with the new equipment. Looks like you had the whole place to yourself. I like the dusk setting and the moon rising. This was like a trip back in time. The simplicity of the structures reminded me somewhat of the places where the Shakers used to live. I like those elevated wooden walkways. They would sure make things easier in snowy and wet conditions. Did the fort originally have them or are they later additions?
Hello Andrew! Happy to hear from you! Lot's of restoration but original . I have visited the Fort a few times at night. But when the ground is snow covered. It covers the tourist paths and you can really catch the feel of how it must have been like to winter there. Working at getting another up! Cheers !
Isn't that nice of you to say ! Thank you! That was the melt for us. We got so much snow this year, I almost did not make it into work a few times. Looking forward to Spring and Summer now! Cheers!
The new setup is doing a great job. I can't wait to see it inside the old houses you explore. Thanks for the walk around of the fort. Old military bases are always an interesting explore.
oh good to see you back.. i was wondering where did you wondered off ..lol.. love the video.. love the location. Its so peaceful.. thank you for sharing..
Thank you for watching as always Asankaw. That was the last cold snap that we had this year.I like winter but by the end you are really done with it. Have a great week!
PrairieDodgers i m not sure whether we are done with the white stuff yet. its very unpredictable here. but im hoping more sun and blue skies and green grass. take care and hope to see more adventures of yours.
Great explore aka walkaround, and love too see you back again missed you :-). That thing at the blacksmith was used too put the horses in and give them new shoes . Nice video good quality and very stable, full screen is a bit small but no problem.
Hi Rolf! Thanks for letting me know that. Using a new editing program and a good computer for editing big files now. Always a learning curve for me. But having fun figuring it out. You always have great feedback for me Rolf. Much appreciated! Have a great day!
That's a great question. I even did some back tracking and came up with only the different levels of employment that would have been needed to properly run that place. There were a lot of guides and their families living outside the gates too. There were 85 acres on that property. And in 1871 there would have been thousands of people from 7 different Indian Nations camped outside those gates for the Treaty Signing. I believe there were 200 British Troops stationed here at one time also.
one of those round buildings didn't have a door, I was like hey we can go into that one. :( then you went the other way. what kind of stabilizer did you get? If I lived up there I'd go exploring with you. Happy 150 Years Canada.
Really nice to meet people, who get what I do. We will find that right explore partner with the same interests as me yet . A camera man maybe or someone with some bushcraft skills. So I can do some real wilderness trips, and not worry I am going to be eaten by bears. HaHa I am using the Osmo 3 axle stabilizer. And I really am so glad I decided to go that way. Thank you!
Ah, the squeaky crunch of frozen snow underfoot. Brings to mind winters of my childhood (cold, yes, but not 30-below cold), trying to build forts & igloos & snowmen w/my girlfriends before darkness compelled our parents to beckon us home. There was magic in those dusky moments, with all having been called in but me; that silver-blue sparkle, breath billowing, parts of me gone numb, imagining what life in the frozen climes must be like as I tromped thru powder toward our toasty trailer, hoping for a "snow day" in the morn so teach wouldn't find out I'd forsaken homework for snowplay. Have u lived there yr entire life? Prob used to the cold, eh?
I moved here when I was 18 from Vancouver B.C. Fell in love with the amazing people here, and never left. Love how you write Sharon you are very talented. The cold is nothing. It is the snow that you can get tired of after 4-5 months of being cooped up with it. I fell I think 3-4 times this winter cause of the ice. Cheers! Always wonderful to hear from you.
Hi Ray! No, This Fort was meant only to look imposing. The Hudson Bay Company which is the oldest and longest running business in the World. Governed most of the lands so it was totally to make a lasting impression on people when they 1st saw it. That was a great question. England wanted those Fur Pelts. I think they tried to keep very good relations with everyone..... ( for the most part). Great to hear from you! Talk to you soon!

I will for sure, be going to visit this summer. I will keep that in mind. Thanks Buddy!
That's a good size fort. How many soldiers/people lived inside there?

Thank you. Excuse my ignorance but was the fort built to defend against the local tribes?
